Why? 3rd person mp is good. Gears was good online. |

I'd rather see a more unique style of game play for multiplayer. Has anyone ever player and of the Splinter Cell games online? I love the idea behind that, one team in 1st person and one in 3rd. I don't think 3rd person is a bad choice at all, if implemented correctly. |

Gears of War for Xbox 360 has sold 4.5 million copies so far, so third person can't be that bad? |
A common mistake people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools. |

MP in third person.... bleah! Where is the thrill of sniping in third person? Gone!
Maybe there is a large group of gamers that likes third person but what about the existing RF community that has been waiting a long time for an FPS with MP that is an improvement on the original RF? Not that there are many people left now, but I'm sure they'd come back to RF3 if it was FPS in MP. |

The main concern for THQ is to make a game that will sell real good so their shareholders will be satisfied. With the economic development THQ has had the last year, they really need a bestseller. If that means making it a third person, so it will be. Sorry, but the remains of the original community means nothing when it comes to the shareholders and what they expect. |

I don't think the viewpoint is going to make that much of a difference as far as the gameplay goes. Third person games aren't any harder or easier to play than an FPS, they both pose different challenges. What I really like about third person is you can see behind you a bit without turning around. I always play games (especially MP) with music on which makes it hard to tell where the shots are coming from, so I often end up shot in the back while fighting somebody else.

How would that make sniping less thrilling? When you zoom in, it has to goes first person anyways, doesn't it? |

I guess I'm going to have to reload Max Payne to get used to playing a third person shooter again.

Quoting goober | A switch between third-person and first-person would be very cool, but Multiplayer should be always forced to first-person. |
Not necessary... I dont understand developper, if you want to satisfy both, including the hardcore FPS gamer and the target audience for a 3rd person marketing succes... Is not that hard, when create a game/server, you let the host decide which point of view players will play, force First or Third person, and show that in game browser information, thats all...

ROFL!
Im a bit dissapointed its going to be 3rd Person. I wanted a FPS RF3, but I will settle with this it sounds awesome. It sounds like Saints Row but on a much larger scale. Im interested to find out what the Multiplayer elements will be. I mean, Vehicles are an obvious requirement for large scale maps. I imagine there will be smaller maps for just players and no vehicles. Im thinking Saints Row mixed with Gears of War. Im loving the sound of the new Geomod. Volition have been hard at work for a LONG time from the sounds of it.
Im up for mapping for this beast. Aught to be interesting to see what sort of structures we can make. They may allow you to "create" your own Materials for your maps so instead of having to select "concrete" you could make your own Material that was not heavy or affected as much by stress. Thus creating floating islands will still be a possibility (just need to add a handful invisible supports)
I so hope this has a map editor. I also hope that the Multiplayer is cross-platform. Im in 2 minds about what to get it on Xbox 360 or PC. If its not cross-platform and has an editor, then I will be picking PC.
Imagine if they made this into an MMORPG of sorts. LOL! Would be insane! |

Morgoth, the problem in that is that it creates more work for the developers. Not only would they have to add code to support the switch (which is a lot more work than you'd think), but they also have to model everything from a 1st person perspective as well.
As far as custom materials goes, I'd like to see something similar to the current table system only more in-depth. For example, when defining materials have fields for physics interaction, like weight per cubic meter (assuming they stick with the metric system as in the first game), and things like buoyancy, resistance to impact, friction, etc. |

Quoting Kiliad | Well ... this all sounds great but the whole "third person" thing has started to sink in and I don't think I like the idea at all.
Plus, the realistic physics might be fun in some ways, but hopefully you can turn it off or adjust it. Think of how many maps in RF1 depend on a lack of realistic physics.... not that you'll be able to play that kind of game in third person anyway.... or not in the same way.
I think I'm falling into depression. |
3rd person and the limit of 12 players online make me think the game is focussed being a console game....but also ported over to PC for more $$ (just like RF2)
uh oh..it will SUCK if it stays this way. (12 players max online is a massive sign of a bad netcode in the game, and another massive sign of very little dedication by the developers on the MP part overall)
Also note PS3 is always being named first. I'd be absolutely happy if RF3 was only available for PC. (best conditions for a PC game) |

The image crop I posted mentions 12 player maximum. I can only hope that this maximum is due to extremely team-oriented game play (it's easier to keep a team of six people under control than a team of 16). Lets hope this doesn't go the way of RF2 and UT3. |

If it is a max of 12 on PC as well, at least I know the maps aren't going to take an hour to run across like a lot of the games that have come out in the last few years.... |

Thank you for your vote of confidence. However, I really need to know what the minimum specififcations are for this upcoming game so I will know how much stuff to bring to the local pawn shop and obtain a new PC.
