Well, I hope it hasn't been posted yet

Anyway, it can't get any more official than that. And we've got a release date.

Have fun finding a game without exploits.

Also confirms PC development, unless that was already confirmed and I was sleeping at the time.

Well I for one am happy to hear about a PC version and the fact that Volition is developing it rather than the acual release date.

yaay! All i have to say is.. They better not screw this one up like RF2!

ok, mabye a few other things.

I would like to see parker make a return, and the game better have multiplayer with a SDK. I'm so sick of all these new games coming out with bulky CENSORED editors and SDKs. At least RF was a really resourceful savvy game. Also, it's file structure was almost perfect... If RF IIIs file structure is simmilar to ut2004 and fast efficent workflow like RF1 then its a modding paradise of which i will spend the rest of my free computer time life in.

It would be a shame if the game engine (and its level editor or SDK workflow) was a hulking pile of garbage like unreal 3 engine. Completley unacceptable. What a letdown.

Take a look at COD4. I don't think ive seen another game in my life that looks that good, runs that good, and is as resourceful as it. Oh, wait, there isn't.

Well this is exciting... possibly anyway. If it doesn't have a simple to use editor thenI will be very disappointed.

A year away? I suppose that's not long as far as game development goes but in terms of waiting to play it.... AHHHHHHHH it's an eternity!!!!

Lets hope after all the negative repsonses Volition received over modding etc, that they were actually paying attention and have taken those issues seriously. There has also been a lot of good suggestions made about what RF3 could include.... not that they are likely to take any of that seriously. Oh well, time will tell.

This is a bitter-sweet announcement, at least for me. While I'm glad they're finally bringing the franchise back, I'm disappointed that it hasn't been announced for Wii (not yet, anyways). I suppose that's probably because of a high CPU requirement for their "new destruction technology," but a let-down nonetheless. On the up side, I own a modern PC so I should be just fine as far as requirements go anyways.

Yeah.... "new destruction technology"? It doesn't quite have the same ring to it as Geomod does it. No doubt it will be a bit more advanced than that but they could have thrown us a bone and explained it a little.

As of now the release date is roughly a year away, so they have most likely worked out the core game mechanics. The only reason they'd withhold information is for suspense, but I'm sure if enough reporters bug them about it we'll get some specifics. I doubt they'll drop the Geomod name, though, as its kind of a signature.

My guess is that it'd be roughly the same as UT3. The graphics and physics quality of UT3, Crysis, and the like seems to be the new standard. Expect at least UT3 minimums, possibly higher depending on the new Geomod requirements.

Red Faction 3 will be XP compatible. To exclude XP would cut their market by more than half. Even the original RF supports Windows 95 (I think). The thing about modern programming is that applications are becoming more and more cross-platform compatible. Games these days mostly have DirectX requirements rather than operating system requirements (for Windows, anyways). As long as DX9 is a valid standard (it will be for a year or two still) XP will work with them, Windows 2000 too. The core of the latest OS's hasn't changed much,m just more refined.
