Quoting Beatonator | hope for you to stay around. just a few quick questions and they aren't even about the company LOL!
Do you play RF online?
Have you tried any Custom maps, or mods from this website?
some of them are out of this world... you should try WRECKS maps, or maybe if you have some spare time download an RFU project (number 2 is my favourite) |
And to think, I thought my post (where I asked for a job) was stupid. The guy said he doesn't play RF and I'm thinking he was just sent here after what's-his-name contacted someone in Violition (perhaps Mr. Allender himself?).
However, perhaps Violition would be king enough to give L4Y (and a few other RF sites) the e-mail address of the person in charge of RF's running/development/updates/etc at Violition (might want to give that person a special e-mail address, something generic like rf@violition.com). This way, if something happens, we'd have a direct line to them and wouldn't have to wait a month or two to get it fixed (half-joke/half-truth).
As for the abuse problems, perhaps this could be released only to Garner and his direct subordinates (L4Y Staffers, most notably in RF). This way we wouldn't have something like that imbicilic mass-e-mail campaign against THQ like what's-his-name's suggestion every time something goes wrong with the GT or someone wants to make a suggestion.
As for the source, Pred is right about it. What sort of company wants to give away code like that? Note that 90% of the source available for free is for ancient games (10 years old or more) or GNU-supporting programmers (TA:Spring is an example). The rest isn't released because you can always reuse code someway. This is especially true of RF's Geo-Mod, which is some pretty powerful stuff (best code one has seen (well, not seen, but the effects of which have been experienced)).
Anyway, why would THQ have half of the code if it wasn't such a secret? Not to mention the myriad advisements against trying to hack into RF for the source in the EULA. It is doubtful they will ever release it, so if you'd like to see it, get some skill (most notably in C/C++ and Java) and work there! (pretty strict stuff too, at least out of what I've seen (how can you release a game before you get there? I'm assuming Violition wants something comercial you've released, and most programmers can't do this unless they have had a job elsewhere. This, coupled with a lot of companies adopting similar standards leaves a lot of the programmers with no job) and compared to other companies (most only want you to have an associates in programming (not computer science, which is a censored of a thing to study for) and a year's experience (no proof required either))).
Finally, thank you Mr. Allender and we wish you and the rest of the Violition crew some very good luck with future projects (we even wish it to those not affiliated with the RF project ), and we hope that you or someone else can maintain contact with the fans of your fine games. It is truely in customer support and product support that a good company and gaming lineage is developed. Without support, we know not of the fate of the gaming industry. |

Yes, I will admit that I have absolutely no life . How else could I sit here and write all this? If you want to continually remind me that most of my offline (offline as in off the Internet and off the computer) life is a nice, continual failure, fine by me. Just be sure of one thing, though: there's four people you don't want to mess with:
God (or divine being of your preference) (he/she/it/they/them is always right. No matter what religion you believe in, this is a pretty common standard)
The media (they'll always have the last word)
The arrogant or stubborn (they'll argue just to try to prove they're right)
Those that have nothing better to do (I fit in this one) (they've nothing else to do, so they do this for fun).
Anyway, I apologize (very anti-climactic). However, the "something small" that you mentioned was referred to elsewhere and in the guy's first or second post. Still, I've no right to call you stupid, as you continually find myriad errors with my posts. That, and the fact that in my last post I said "what's-his-name" at least 5 times (pointing out that even though I read the posts, I don't fully process the information. From this, you can conclude I'm stupid and illiterate).
As far as the spelling mistake, you forgot a conjunction between "something quiet and small". Sure, that was more of a grammatical mistake, but the entire sentence there was wrong on the grammatical. It would fit better as:
"I missed out on something quiet and small, something that few noticed. Would you like to argue this further, or continue to insult me?"
Anyway, we miss the point of this joyous event: Mr. Allender has successfully brought the GameTracker back to RF. Thank you Mr. Allender! |

Congrats mark, your offically a part of the RF Game. (even though you proved to be a part when you brought back the server for us) (thanks again for that, cant think you enough ) |

I just realized what a Censored I was being. I tried to apologize (with a bit of sarcasm to show that I wasn't offended by his statement) and I just came out looking like a complete censored . Luckily he didn't read it yet (or did he?).
Anyway, I shouldn't have called your post stupid because the guy mentioned it once, and the references to it were indirect at best (such as "I already explained this" and "I can't speak about that", paraphrased of course).
I didn't know he was in RF. Time to check my hundreds of screenshots of the RF credits (I really did do this. I got bored one day, beat RF in something like 40 minutes (easy mode, with vivalahelvig enabled so I could kill faster without worrying about death), then at the credits kept hitting "Print Screen" every couple of seconds. Although they're poor-quality, I think it has ever name in the credits on there, as well as their position in the game (just like the credits has).
Surely this proves I've no life, but still its funny how after a while of playing the game, I can almost name about half the people involved with it (D2k wasn't joking when he said Violition visiting here is almost like God Himself walking amongst us. Of course, I'm just so bored so often that I have time to do this (practically memorize the credits and wonder some strange thoughts about the models of the characters (my mind may be that disturbed, or was it a Violition in-joke that they react like they do?), such as how the guards run like they do (they're supposed to be well-trained) and why Parker and the rest of the RF kills mercilessly yet never launches a preemptive strike, etc)). |

Still, they could easily fail at the strike. If you'll note in the game, the RF pretty much sat around once they got to the RF base. Other than Orion picking up Parker, none of the RF really moved.
Of course, we're forgetting that the course of the game takes place over the course of only a few hours (second workshift would end somewhere around 4 pm, as there are three shifts (8 hour segments, sleep one, work 1, do something with the other 8 (probably recreation or more work)). When you're in Gryphyn's office, the clocks read somewhere around 6-7 pm).
However, as this is a game, there is no formal timeline. Thus, the entire time of the RF could take weeks, but we'd only percieve hours as there are very few clocks in the game and other indicators of time. Still, we must keep in mind that each time you surface (to the top of Mars) it is daylight, and Mars has a day of 40 minutes longer than an Earth day. Thus, if it is perpetual daylight, and we assume that the martian day in the game is the same as the real one; the game would all take place within a 12 hour period (roughly).
If this is true, how did Parker make it from his post in the mines (miles underground) to the surface of Mars, then to the polar regions (this is all before he goes into space, which would obviously change where he should be on Mars if you follow the story)? I figure that the mines were located close to the polar regions to begin with. However, they couldn't be close enough that the water would freeze (we assume Ultor did some terraforming on Mars, so the water is logical). Thus, the M4 mines would have to be located outside of roughly 500 miles of the martian polar ice caps. To say that Parker walked most of that 500 miles is ludicrous.
To help things along, Parker picks up some vehicles. Still, this is not enough to make the long trek logical. This, combined with the rather illogical placement of some of the events (air vent next to a garbage disposal? Target range between the shuttle launch bay and the garbage disposal area. Garbage area the only place to go after escaping from admin area and its launching bay? Parker landing fairly close to the Merc base? etc).
Anyway, despite the rather illogical story of RF, we must remember that the game is still fun and the storyline in no way subtracts from the fun of the game. We can easily reason that Ultor, in its insanity, built things this way because their contractor was just as demented as they were. However, above all, we must remember, its only a game! |

Yeah i find that wierd too[Mines---->Polar Ice Caps?]
When you arrive at the barracks and go into the room with just one guard and a pistol.Look at the clock. Its 3 or 4 pm[Or maby less]
Then in the merc barracks there are some more clocks and it points to 9.00 pm i think. So the game probably took 12 hours like you said or more. |

V-Allender given a custom rank so he stands out a little... the rank of 'Mutant' isn't quite right for someone who just helped the RF community so much
As for while smilies are not working... well I think they've all gone off to play RF so the text versions are getting a look in. |

Sorry V-Allender, like D2k I was quite suspicious and I just found it hard to believe that we had finally been noticed. Thanks a lot to the THQ/Volition staff for setting things right in the RF community again and thank you to Mr. Allander for stepping forward and giving us word from the home front |

However, perhaps Violition would be king enough to give L4Y (and a few other RF sites) the e-mail address of the person in charge of RF's running/development/updates/etc at Violition (might want to give |
Who is this Violition that you speak of?
In all honesty, I'm glad that you all are up and running again. As I said before, the tracker wasn't intentionally down. It's just off of our radar enough that it fell through the cracks when the data center machines were moved and there was enough miscommunication that we all thought it was up and running again.
As for the future of RF, I cannot say. What I can say is that the game was a good success for THQ. While it's very doubtful that we will be continuing in our support with more patches and upgrades, we will continue to make sure that the current situation at least stays status quo so that you all can continue to have a good RF game to play.
And who knows, I might be willing to get my CENSORED shot off in a game sometime. I just need to know when/where. :-)
And thanks for thh custom rank. That was nice of you. |

no, but I can tell you its not possible for the millionth time. Every other method at trying to reproduce them in MP is not getting them to work 'properly'
