CommanderViper, honestly I would love to see a ginormous amount of players! The previous list is by no means a list of importance. If we can rustle up a 24 or 32 player game server - that is the way to go! Just gotta make sure it is stable and has a password. Besides this project is really Beatonator's and V-Allender's. I just couldn't stop myself from reviewing this thread and taking notes - I drank coffee today for the first time in my life.
NoClanFrank had mentioned that he has 768 KB/sec upload so that should safely cover 24 players. I can only manage 16 with my current dsl. Anyone have larger upload or fibre optic perhaps? Does Volition have a super server for the occasion?
Besides if the Volition turn out is low, some of us should fill the gap for the V-team! |
I have suffered in real life for the past couple years, now its your turn! |

Thanks for compiling the list Hapa Hanu. Custom maps should be decided by all people playing. I reckon we should offer a Guarenteed position to Garner if he wants to play.
Anyhoo, it all depends on;
A) Server - Max Capacity
Allender - Coming back with a nice rounded team figure which matches ours. However if this doesnt occur we could always just even the teams up. (Whos up for a FFA DM match afterwards? WUUUAHAHAHA!)
C) Gametype - This hasnt been mentioned, although its pretty obvious all the custom maps mentioned are TDM, but I think a CTF match or two would have been better however im not one to argue. Whos to say this game cant happen more than once
D) Limited Players - Obviously if we cant have a 32player server we all ready have a problem! if this happens, it needs to be decided whether it will go in order of people wanting to play, or whether its just a raffle for everyone, to make it fair.
Hopefully we dont scare Allender away from here with all our posts, chatting, etc...
My recommended maps are mostly from RFU2
RFU2 - KillBill
RFU2 - Temple of Doom
Island Jam
KOZ cubes
Suffocation 2 (LOL kidding, even if we did play it its too small )
any other suggestions? Please dont post huge lists, no more than 5 maps. and then we will have to compile a map list.
Defaults
Grey Matter (I love it!)
Installation XJ-15 (too small?)
Office Space
One to the dome
S.R.O.
note I was trying to think of volume of players while picking maps |

If V-Allender is talking to the people at Volition and cant muster up enough people i would gladly take a spot on their team. My preference is with L4Y as i have no real connections to volition but would happily frag those of L4Y if it needs to happen.
Also V-Allender would you be able to give us an update on the L4Y vs Volition situation on your end so we know to either continue with organisation or end things if it will not happen.
If you reply, Thank you for your time. |

Count me in. I haven't played RF for a bit but i still think i could frag a couple of people. I will have to reinstall RF again (HDD size is a bit crap, so everytime i get a new game i have to get rid of one )
Anyone know a date yet? Plus i have been speaking with Beat, and by the looks of things, the match will be happening at around about midnight GMT. Sort of a pain in the CENSORED for me as my step-dad is a bit of a *cough* and limits my time on the net. So unless he his working nights i might not be able to play |

I had answered this on my own before and edited this, however apparently the edit didn't work or something. I've been REALLY out of touch these past 2 months. |

Quoting Johnny_Suave | I haven't been reading this so I'm just gonna ask my question. Is the tracker ever gonna come back? November 24th is pretty far behind us now......
Since we've been able to play again, I've found the servers to be laggier than they've ever been for me. In servers where I used to get a ping of 100, I'm now around 250.... just wish things were back to normal already. |
*cough* The tracker IS back up |

Can you guys at volition PLEASE release the uncompiled character rigs. Parker, mercs, guards etc...
I have worked on some mods in the past that have failed because of that...
I know wrong place to ask but where else can i post to get this question answered? |
There's already a masako setup file. Most games only ship one character in the "SDK", perhaps because of copyright reasons. More setups won't be more helpful.
I'd like to know how to get the LODs to work on clutter meshes and items. But I haven't got an answer since years
That's the last great secret of RF!
I don't like it to build items out of under 100 faces only. You've seen it on eko beta, the framerate dies with all that detail. |
Hey that would be great and worth a shot getting those and or more files released. |

Ok cleaned out all the useless posts.
Please dont keep posting random stuff, wait for V-allender to reply, if you have a prefered list of customs please feel free to post them. (no more than 5)
I was thinking considering Suffocation 2 is too small, I might make a nice large scale type one fit for 16-32 players.
Could be called "Suffocation V" thats V for victor not V for 5. |

Quoting sobe | If NoClanFrank has a 700KB/s+ upload rate, then it should be able to handle 32 peeps just fine. I myself on 256KB/s u/l can handle 16 with no lag.
I would also be glad to partake in this event. |
If frank can't host then I might be able to. I've got a 600kb/s upload speed but I have no idea what the max I would be able to hold though without lag because he most I've ever had was 3 including me. |

I just went to dslreports.com and this what I got for my speed:
Your download speed : 2771 kbps or 346.4 KB/sec.
Your upload speed : 721 kbps or 90.2 KB/sec.
I am pretty sure I can run a 16 person server without any lag but the problem is that ever since I switched to Verizon, some players that use to get a nice ping, now get a 100+ ping. I've never tried to run a server with more people than that. I doubt that I would be able to host a 32 player server. My connection only handles a 10 player server for UT2004 and according to them, I should be able to host a 12 VCTF player server. So you see, they lie, it lags with 11 players or more. Now I know I can do more with a DM server, since it takes a lot more bandwidth when vehicles are involved. |

Quoting V-Allender | Quoting Vidi44 | As far as the timeline, 8 pm CST might be a bit restrictive for our international users. |
There may not be much that we can do about the time. We all work during the day and the after hours time is the only time that we can make it. And believe it or not, with regular jobs, most people here won't stay up until 12 midnight :-)
Quoting Vidi44 | Insofar as Mr. Allender's job security: would you and the Volition team, in participating in this tournament, infringe or otherwise violate your jobs? We'd hate to see you all lose your jobs over this or lose your credibility within Volition or THQ. |
Um, no. It's just a multiplayer game, right? And it's our game, right? There's a lot of interest in it for sure.
Quoting Vidi44 | Finally, a quick question about Volition's #1 rule about employment within the company: Why do you have to live in Champaign, Illinois? Couldn't you just as easily submit your work via the Internet? |
The short answer is no. I could probably talk about 20 minutes on this topic, but many of the things that you suggest in your post are not accurate. There is much face to face communication outside of meetings. Game design and programming is a very iterative process, and we _require_ the ability to go and talk to whomever is working on a system at any time during the work day. There is no studio that I know of that has been around for any number of years who would regularly conduct business like this. We do outsource certain things like audio and art, but we have never done that with programming, nor do I see us doing so in the near to extended future.
I will start a separate thread in the forums with regards to a game next week. |
Yay, I was answered (roflmao @ NCF). Childishness aside (if that's possible for me ), couldn't we find time on a Saturday or Sunday to do this (although would be difficult to tell the family ("Daddy can't do anything this weekend, he's busy pwning noobs"), no offense intended)?
I actually know of a few people who developed a game, played it, then were fired. Of course, they had specific clauses in their contracts that said they'd only write the code, never use it (not even for testing). As Volition has no known clause (you'd certainly know about it), shouldn't be a problem.
As far as the power of the Internet to create a long-lasting company, I suppose you're correct. The companies I referenced are more of organizations that create free stuff and/or are small enough to make it work. Further, I hope you could understand why I knew not the purpose behind extensive collaboration, as solitary programming is my forte. (templae deferus, mi no accounto para defo )
We should follow (qui-es-te-vises?)'s idea that we set some standard maps in and make multiple servers.
EDIT: Just saw "Volition Game" thread. Will stop writing now |
