For the custom maps we should get a list of everyone whos going to be playing. Then pick the best map of each mapper thats playing.

that sounds good

I agree with frank, disabled amps and HMG is lame. Ugh, i want my amps and hmg CENSORED 'Have fun' has it disabled along with all the super health / armor pickups. along with MANY other servers i have tried online. it really bugs the hell out of me when i run over an item that could have kept me alive.

anaways... You know, now would be the perfect time for the question that i have been itching for to be answered since nobody at V ever answers questions via email.

Can you guys at volition PLEASE release the uncompiled character rigs. Parker, mercs, guards etc...

I have worked on some mods in the past that have failed because of that...

I know wrong place to ask but where else can i post to get this question answered?

And thanks for thh custom rank. That was nice of you.

No problem... further research however has revealed you deserved the rank anyway... because you worked on the best game ever made

Nothing will ever beat Descent.

Ay! A tear in my eye just thinking about that game. Yes, 'tis true. I worked on Descent. And I agree...one of the best ever made.

You can say that again.
Descent was the the first Multiplay Game I played, I remember staying up until the sun came up playing with a friend I worked with. It was also the first game I made a map for. Made 2 maps and nobody other than me and my work buddy got to enjoy them. I still have all 3 descent games and am thinking of loading them up so me and my 6 year old can enjoy some good fun together.

Thanks for taking the time to respond to so many questions and working as hard as you did to get the MS back upV-Allender.

I personaly didn't think you guys were going to keep it running which gave me doubts if I would ever buy another Volition game but after seeing your dedication to finding and fixing the MS problem I feel confident that I will buy many Volition products in the future.

Its been a long time since I have seen such an interesting thread.

BTW whoever it was that came up with the GEO-Mod engine needs a big fat payraise as that is one of the best things that I have seen in a game.

If we're going to include custom maps, we'll have to give people time to download them. Thus, we must determine this as soon as possible to ensure that all people will have htem.

As far as who will get in, we're most likely going to need to do a raffle or something similar. Obviously, count me in to any pooling you do to determine who gets it.

As far as the timeline, 8 pm CST might be a bit restrictive for our international users. Those in Australia/Eastern Asia/Indian Ocean regions would have to play at 9 am, during school. Those in Western Europe would have to play in the middle of the night. Thus, this would only work for those in the US and Canada. Also, whenever we have it, we couldn't play long (unless it were a Friday or the weekend) because folks need to go to school (I'm not about to sacrifice my 10 solid years of perfect attendance (in the later parts of first grade, I had an allergic reaction to something and had a nice trip to the doctor. Before that, it was still perfect attendance) for a tournament, even if it is with the creators of RF)). Edit: I just remembered 3 years ago when I had to go to the hospital for my physical. The school never excused me for it, which is outrageous because the physical was mandated for entry into school (had to have it during school because I was nearing the deadline for my physical's submission. If I didn't do it then, they'd forcibly keep me home until I got one). Yes, that is a load of BS, but its on my permanent record) .

Also, Beatonator: If you would be so kind, don't mention the Magic 8 Ball program. If I had known you had done it, I wouldn't have spent 6 months of my life creating my very intricate Magic 8 Ball program (written in QBASIC, is fully graphical and has "intelligence" (has answers to commonly asked questions), works with random access files, and is generally very spiffy). Now, if the local administrators get knowledge of this, I lost 6 months of my work (they have clear rules about the graduation project: It can't be a copy of something, has to be completely original. It must also not be based on something (the magic 8 ball is public domain, so its ok. However, your program isn't, so my program is in violation of the "based on something" rule), and I have to write a 5 page MLA-formatted report on it. As such, I ask you to not mention your program until I can get my presentation done (scheduled for 3 months from now). If not, I'll just say I had no idea you did it (which I didn't until you mentioned it here), and thought mine was original. Also, no binaries or source code of my Magic 8 Ball program can be redistributed until I give my presentation . As such, don't ask, because you won't see it until summer of '06, if at all.

Insofar as Mr. Allender's job security: would you and the Volition team, in participating in this tournament, infringe or otherwise violate your jobs? We'd hate to see you all lose your jobs over this or lose your credibility within Volition or THQ.

As far as D2k's question, I think a micro-forum could be made to ask the Volition team these questions. Surely, 3/4 of our questions will be "no, illegal under our EULA and company policy", but there's that 1/4 chance you folks could spread some good information about RF, Volition, programming, game design, and other things. I too, would like to get some information about game design and programming (aside from the weak knowledge I'll get for it from designing PC:CE) and from Preacher (Preacher is the combination of "The Preacher" from codesermon.org and my best programming friend, who carries around his "C++ Bible" everywhere (nice thing, has everything from beginner's code to advanced techniques. I should've asked him the exact name of the book <hits head with VB Bible, "Visual Basic.NET Powertools". Its only 800 pages and a hardcover book (is available in paperback). Definately hurts like a Canadian invasion>)).

Finally, a quick question about Volition's 1 rule about employment within the company: Why do you have to live in Champaign, Illinois? Couldn't you just as easily submit your work via the Internet? I figure so long as the code is properly done (works with the game and whatnot) and you submit it before the deadline, why not work from home? Of course, for a nice job with any company, I'd probably relocate (although family wouldn't take kind to it); however it is better overall to be a family man than a company man. That being said, I apologize for having offended you, and hope you won't take negatively to my comment (although the question is still on the table, why is it mandatory? Programmers working in a group doesn't happen. Usually, they are separated by a cubical or office, with little to no communication save for meetings. The only time "team programming" is partially team-oriented would be if the company adopted the old Apple system of programming (programmers in a room with no barriers, all computers centered around the mainframe, and little if no real "comfort zone" (arm room between programmers)). That alone is illogical, as the discomfort wouldn't help the programmers code).

That goes to everybody else that keeps asking questions about the source code and such.

For the event between Volition and L4Y I believe I have a list of victims volunteers, assembled in the order over time that interest was shown:

L4Y Individuals:
1. Beatonator
2. goober
3. Hapa Hanu
4. LordSeafood
5. NoClanFrank
6. CommanderViper
7. SkipRat
8. AssaultMan67
9. RFJuice
10. DVL_IAC
11. D2K
12. Predalienator
13. wrecks
14. MosterMan
15. SKA-Diesel
16. Vidi44

Volition Individuals:
1. V-Allender

If this were a straight team match; V-Allender may find himself hard pressed. Was the post by Tungsten in this thread written by my esteemed Mac using friend - my contact in Volition's QA department? Will he be willing to throw his hat in the ring?

If I might recommed either 12 maps over 2 hours or 8 maps over 2 hours, with an additional 6 maps selected as overruns just in case frag limits are hit before time limit is hit. Perhaps half of the maps should be standard installed levels, but I would very much like to nominate Microfaction Redux as a custom map for this event. If anyone needs Mac Sound Safe maps let me know and I will do my best.

I myself have only done one map, CorporateHQ, but it is fully geomodable and if you want good pick ups you have to work for them.

Goober, you previously mentioned that you could fit 24-32 players. Is it stable? Give us some stats on the computer you would use as a server and your connectivity details.

Everybody, start practicing and brush up yer skills! Me? I gotta quit drinkin!
I have suffered in real life for the past couple years, now its your turn!

There's already a masako setup file. Most games only ship one character in the "SDK", perhaps because of copyright reasons. More setups won't be more helpful.

I'd like to know how to get the LODs to work on clutter meshes and items. But I haven't got an answer since years
That's the last great secret of RF!

I don't like it to build items out of under 100 faces only. You've seen it on eko beta, the framerate dies with all that detail.
