CRASH!

I just tested the mod and loaded up dm04 and and once all the people started spawning it crashed with this error:

Thats strange. RFNormalWallHitEffect is the effect that plays when a bullet hits a wall.
The whole map is made of static meshes, all others use BSP, but not only. Do other maps sometimes crash, too?

What's NetMode=2?
HAve you been testing the mod through Instant Action or LIsten Server? (or even dedicated?)

I just ran a server with myself only.
I tried to do a dedicated server and it crashed.
Oh REDFROG you forgot to change the read me to to say that you need to change the target to:

C:\UT2004\System\UT2004.exe -mod=MarsWars

Not what it use to me. Also what happen to the VCTF map?

For whatever reason the game seems to run a little faster then again I just reformatted my hard drive and all I have on the PC are the basics. You know REDFACTION, UT2004 and those other things that protect me from spy-ware, Trojans and viruses.

I still need to load Office and photo shop and other stuff I can't remember.

a listen server and it crashes on every map and i dont know what net mode 2 is.. maybe LAN mode? I tried instant action mode too and it still crashed...

The levels have been tweaked, perhaps thats why they run faster.
Well and of course I have tweaked the scripts and effects.

Frank have you tryed to run the dedicated server through the game (ingame) or by running the .bat file (which is located in the MarsWars folder)
It is not possible to run dedicated servers from the ingame menu for now. But Max Damage on 3dbuzz helped me and it should work soon. (it already does by using the .bat (you can modify it by right clicking on it) file or by adding "stuff" to the command line.)
You can only change settings ingame, and when you do this, the game will save the information and will use it when you run the dedicated server from the .bat file

DVL_IAC that sounds very disgusting
Please run a server without having any bots added. Then shoot on things with each gun. Or better... shoot the handgun in 04 and look what happens, and then try it with the HMG and Railgun and look what happens. (shoot at the geometry of the map)
If it crashes with the HMG and/or railgun then its the piercing.
It should then not crash when shot with the handgun.

The mod never crashed on my old PC whilst all the testing. Maybe its your graphic card or something. Damn its hard to find out whats wrong.

Ok I did some testing and the weapons that don't cause a crash when shot at a wall are:
-Riot Stick
-Remote Mines
-Shotgun
-rocket launcher
-punch
-precision rifle

Guns that do cause UT04 to crash when shot at a wall:
-Hand gun
-Assault rifle
-sub machine gun
-sniper rifle
-HMG
-rail driver

did I miss any weapons?


I did notice a problem with the remote mine though.. half the time you try to through it your arm moves but nothing gets thrown... it takes like five throws just to throw 1...




Also is there a way to reduce the amount of light that goes on the weapons when you walk by a light? because when you walk by a light it makes your weapon look way too bright.


Also I did notice a little hole in dm04.


But both these are not a big problem and I'm sure people can live with them.




Lastly you should mesh smooth badlands so it's not so angular and looks more smooth, or would this cause too much lag for some people?




BTW I love the geo effects! But are all weapons supposed to be able to "geo"?

How exactly do you run a dedicated server using the bat file? I double clicked it and a MS DOS window comes up. I'll see if I can run a server tomorrow, hopefully a dedicated.
I too had the problem with the remote mines, it takes a couple of tries after the first one to get the character(me) to be able to throw another one away.
It's 12:08 AM right now and I am off to bed.
Also on the lobby map, it might be a good idea to add more geo to the rooms that have the walk ways. You know like you would normally have in Red Faction after you geo'd both sides of the rooms.

Im sturggling to find time to work on my map. I have no idea when I will get some free time. Will keep trying though. Man, when your single you have loads of time to do all this sort of stuff!

is there any way to fix the hold down thing on the mines? what did you guys use for the code that made you have to hold it down ... the sheild?

i figured you guys would just tweak the grenade launcher code ...

The problem with the remote charges couldn't be fixed yet.

IAC, only these weapons crash your PC? Hmm..
I can't remember which effects are used on these weapons. It seems like some graphic cards can't handle one of the emitter effects.

Badlands already was smoothed. But it may look not smooth enough.

Not sure if it's possible to exlcude weapons from damaging the geo parts, but I'm trying to do it.
Also I don't like the way how the rocket launcher blows up all parts in the damage radius.

edit. Dedicated servers now can be launched from ingame, too. Heavy rocks fell off my shoulder yesterday

Oh BTW i might be gone for the next week or so ... family vacation. I don't know if it will last a week though, our family vacations suck because nobody has anything they want to do during the vacation.
