Ive notice that conditions have to be prime in maps to get that sort of fights ... they sound like soo much fun, but are hard to make happen.

The vehicles of MarsWars:
Each team (red and blue team) should use different types and/or
modified kinds of vehicles.
Red team is the "Miners" team and the blue team is "Ultor".

The red team is the team of the attackers, but not like dumb attackers.
The miners could use vehicles that use stealth and are often a little
faster than ultors vehicles but less armed.
Ultor could use heavy armored/armed vehicles such as chain wheeled vehicles
with SAM rockets and bigger, slower, more powerful tanks.

My idea is as follows:

Vehicles used by Miners: Jeep w/MG, Stealth "Buggy" or "hovercraft" w/rockets, Aesir w/MG and seekingRockets,
MineLayer which is also an APC w/MG (which could use a shield system like Paladin)

Vehicles used by Ultor: MobileSAM, SingleBarrel Tank, Aesir w/MG and faster dumbRockets,
Jeep w/Cannon and amor plates on tires and glasses.

and perhaps
An APC-like vehicle that can release ultors secrurity drones,
and is to transport the players.

Vehicle(s) used by both: Dual barreled heavy Tank with small seeking SAM and maybe 1 MG
could be a super vehicle

(cannon == 1-2 shot, then reload-wait. 1-2 shot..)
(small sam == 1-2-3-4, reload)

I really want to add this vehicle stuff to the mod, but as HA Warlord said we should first done the regular game which is DM TDM and CTF supported. Wow I really felt burned out after the beta release , I didnt do much after that but now my modder instincts are back alive There is so much tweaking that has to be done. A few days ago I started Red Faction (I dont do that often anymore...I dont like it to play with noone in my server Another reason why UT is so cool for this mod) and I noticed that many things are different. Take the jumping for example. In Red Faction you jump much slower into the air than you do in UT.
So far I really love what we are working on. I hope to see a few maps from you, otherwise I would have to make them, and mapping makes me kinda sick because its time consuming and the mod itself wont do any process in this time. Damn its really bad that so many people on l4y have no experience with UnrealEd
As you've seen, OfficeSpace and AnyWay are basically just copies of the original maps. Goober wants to have them looking like they were originally done for UT2004. And I think its important to put some detail to the maps...which requires a lot of experience.
But however, Red Faction is a game with "simple" level geometry. Thats why we're loving it so much. Imagine OfficeSpace was filled with tables and chairs just to make it look like it was an office. That might kill the gameplay...but the idea isnt too bad Well most of the maps arent meant to be realistic anyway.

These vehicles were just an idea. Everything can be changed but before we can do anything we should know what we're aiming for.

i think we should just start posting some concept vehicles based on what REDFROG wants for vehicles that have an RF (origional) theme to it ...
I wonder if we should incorporate logos on vehicles ... that would be cool, but we shouldn't make them really stand out ... we just need it to be a detail.

EDIT: im going to play some single player RF to get inspired ...

the tank is close to RF like, but it needs to be changed more .

Yeah we absolutely need this concept art or something. I have no idea how the vehicles should be looking like. They should fit in the "Red Faction universe". But if you are serious, then other vehicles such as tanks or bombers wouldn't fit in it. Ultor didnt prepare mars for a war or something. It is strange enough that Ultor took so many weapons from earth (ok..I think masako imported some too. railgun?)

But hey...that mod is now called MarsWars..now they have those vehicles on mars

I will search some pictures of real tanks, apcs, etc to get some inspiration.

I know that tanks and bombers really don't fit in ... but it seems like a must .

all i meant by "RF (origional) theme" was to make it look more mars like (like redish camo, rugged offroad looking, etc.) not some urban, sleek looking machine.

just think of the jeep, driller and apc in RF ... none of them are really designed to look beautiful, they are really designed to survive in hospitible enviroments and to kick enemy arse . By doing these things the vehicles do look beautiful ... but in their own "im designed to keep you alive and kick arse" way

Yeah, I see what you're meaning
I can't think of many types of vehicles, well I mean armed vehicles.
If this mod was just a non-sense UT2004 mod then I could create weapons like cow launchers or plasma projectiles.
RF basically uses real weapons, or weapons that are possible to create in real life if you will.
I cannot just attach a MG on each vehicle and call it different

An Aesir or small buggy with a grapple/harpoon would be funny. With the hook you can catch people and let them fall down or throw them on walls lol!
...dont even think about it the script would drive me crazy
But I know that its possible to do this with ragdolls.
Damn this is a really interesting idea I think.. (not really RF compatible, I know)

I REALLY dont like the idea of both teams using differnt vehicles... i think it would make it unfair...

id say use the same vehicles and have ALOT ALOT ALOT of them... i love lots of vehicles, theres not near enough in the original RF or UT game... Im going to model some concepts for vehicles and post to see what you think...

Oh RED-FROG, Masako imported the rail gun and the fusion... cause the first time you see these, is on the mercs...

I can model that tank if youw ant... or RED-FROG can, i do think that REDFROG should do the texturing of the tanks, as i SUCK at it totally... i can make textures, but skinning them and UVing them for Maya to import to UT... i totally suck at it....

Ill get started on some models...

Why dont you guys make a little short different sp campaign than the original Rf so it would be legal since it doesnt use any of the games original levels or based by them but its a whole different campaign.You no maybe able to play the game either as a a mutant,miner,merc,ultor guard?Pick one capmpaign and start of each one bringing its own little rebellious campaign to freedom or victory or both.Anyway from the screens that goober and Red Frog posted it looks like the progress is fast and good

I always liked it to play against "different" enemies.
In UT2004 its just Goliath against Goliath, you know? Theres no real challange in this..and no real tatical deepnes (spelled right?)
I thought it was just cool to have the clever miners with some hitech and ultor with just firepower.

But of course, you are right that this could be unfair. Balancing is very tricky stuff. And we dont have many vehicles yet, different vehicles for each time would mean that there are many of them to create. Same vehicles for both teams would save time of course.

Thanks Predalienator, there have been a couple of people already been asking this. The answer is that we just dont know how to do this.
At the other hand there is simply no time for this. Even if we could write scripts that will work for this, the maps are going to be a lot of more work. UT2004 seems to be very complex and complicated on event systems in UnrealEd.

Ok, this is turning into not an RF mod at all... With different vehicles and weapons not already in RF, then it just wouldn't be RF......

Now, about that ship at the end of RF, that could be included as it was a part of the game, even if it was only in the end vid.


Also, think of the fact that if you have ALOT ALOT ALOT of vehicles, then don't you think the game would just lag for lower broadband/dialup users??? You must consider that.

One of the biggest issues in RF was the pistol did hardly any damage to other players and was easy for skilled players to get constant spawn kills, this actually turned about 5 of my friends off to RF. Thats why I liked Halo 1 multiplayer, If you spawn with the pistol and a grenade no one is that hard to kill. Infact the pistol will kill anyone without an overshield with only 3 headshots. I would make the pistol do 25% damage insted of 12.5% damage in RF. Just one of those balancing things.

I do agree with goob though on the different vehicles different teams subject though too ... it would be hard to balance in the game and maps if we have so many vehicles we can't use them all in one map (too overpopulated)

I like beats idea of the leviathan of the sky though ... but that thing is massive we would need to make a model thats scaled it down a bit.

BTW whats with all the parkers ... it looks like choreography (<--- had to look that word up to spell it ) dancing . was the hud reflecting a model?

Ok some ideas[I sound really bossy arent i?]

Teamplay/Charecter/ mission based multiplayer maps

example:Miners have to sabotage the incoming Ultor reinforcements while collecting some samples of the Plague and giving it to Ultor Scientists that have joined the Rf.Ultor has to defend the base and its containments from any hostile force and put a tracking device on an unsespecting Rf member that will then go back to the Rf base.Mercs have to protect a high ranked Ultor pencil pusher while killing some miners to get some extra money.

And i agree with sobe.Try to lessen the vehicles.

im sure that could be done with the assault types or invasion types ... but the thing is the teams are put on opposite sides for the 2nd round ... making it sort of awkward for assault. and for invasion yu could only do defensive missions. (unless serious coding was added )
