itch when you reinstaled rf did you completly delete the red faction folder before re instaled? if the problem happened on another computer then it means something in your rf disk is corrupt or a imprtant dile is not being instaled.

Itch, a music file doesn't have to be in the map vpp to play on your machine.

Can you open RED normally? ( not opening the map ).

If you have a vpp of the map, try extracting it ( rename it so it doesn't overwrite the original .rfl ) then try to open the extracted .rfl ( if you can play the vpp'd version you should be able to open that rfl in RED )

If that doesn't work then try the 'render nothing' option before loading the map. This is a long-shot but it could work.

Have you tried sending the rfl to someone else to see if they can open it in RED ( on a higher / lower spec machine )

Is it just RED or the map? ( ie will RED open other maps? )

I thought I read somewhere one could use an invible texture on one side and regular texture on the oppsing side. Haven't tried any yet, just asking. I don't want all weapons to shoot thru.
Is it possible to have a brush or spot were one could use the rail to snipe through the wall(no scope), like in the lil speaker on the floor in Microfaction2. I want to do something simular.
I have many more questions, but I'll get to those when I get to that part of the map

what pack hunter says is true...but i think your asking about making it so only a rail will shoot through right? if thats the case, simply texture the face in question with a clear glass texture.(or any other glass for that matter) this will allow only rails to come in or go out. GL

Open up a 64x64 transparent image file in photoshop. Save it as ____.tga in your custom texture folder. Use that, it will be perfectly clear and won't allow bullets to go through. If you don't have photoshop, IM me and I'll be glad to make one for you.

Its Amazing wot alcohol can do , I had a few cool drinks , sat down and nutted it all out,after a few hours of renaming , deleting , unzipping saved [Censored] , I finally got RED to work and got 3/4 of the map back. I still have no real explaination of how I got it to work , combo of alot of things I guess , So Im back at it , thanks guys for all ya help , as I tryed everyhing you all said , so some of it was the result in making it all work again..... any way cheers,, Back To the Map!

Hey thanks for the help everbody! I will try the photoshop transparent texture. I do have photoshop, but, still very new to me, but also, I can get help at work with it. We have graphic designers at work. We print on t-shirts, mugs and things. I'm the printer-slave, not the photoshop person.
I've got another question. Seperate issue.
I'ts about carving. At least that's what I'm tryin to do. I have a box-solid
I have another box inside-air
Here's were it gets fun. I have a cone with 4 sides about .5m thick(There is a hole on each end of the cone, so you can see thru it) and I carved the end off.
When i try to carve the cone and the box it doesn't work right. I want the cone to go into the side of the box and the player be able to look into the box from the outside or be inside the box and look out of it. I know it's very WORDY, but I'm trying to explain the best I can. Hope somebody knows what the deal is. You all are very helpful. I'll check back tommorrow. I gotta be up in a few hours. Staying up late mappin

Yeah i can explain this but will do so later, not got a great deal of time at the moment.. unless someone beats me to it of course

You might even want to save it as: pls_texturename.tga for it to be rail-only, And save it as a 32-bit tga. This way it reconices it as plastic, And you don't have the glassy sound to it.

OK I think this may help you, it\'s the neatest way I can think of to do it...

There is no need to use a grid size lower than 0.5 for the purposes of this demonstration. I always believe that working in as high a grid size as possible is always the best method. Unless you're a mathematical genius then 0.25 should be sufficiently low for most applications.

Also, most of this was done purely in the Top View.

Start off with your 2 Brushes, in this instance I am using a 4x4x4 Solid and a 3x3x3 Air inside. Remember to centralise the Air brush to the Solid brush in all 2d viewports.



OK Go into FACE MODE and select the bottom face of the solid brush. Press the BEVEL button. Should present you with something like this if you change the values in the bevel box.



Now you need to select the adjacent face of the AIR brush and move it down 0.5m like so...



And with that face selected, hit the bevel button again. This time I lowered the values so that it would fit in neatly. This is just basic maths. ((I bevelled the first brush by a height of 2 and an inset of 2 because the face is 4x4. Makes a nice 45 degree bevel that meets perfectly in the centre))



Now jump into Brush mode (shift+ and select both the brushes. You can use the BRUSH CLIPPING TOOL to cut them at the same time. Press CLIP, then CUT, mark your 2 lines and then press CUT once more and you will be left with...



Still in Brush mode you can select the 2 brushes and hit CARVE. Then delete the Air brush from the centre and bob\'s yer uncle

You can also view it in Vertex mode and modify the overall shape and dimensions very easily. Just remember to use all your 2d viewports for god measure

I can't seem to map. I might make a secondary map, I have alot of interest for it. I could make it quiet soon too. Its based around a song as well. It isn't as good as my RFU4 - Linkin Park map.

If I can I will make this secondary map first. then it should get me back into things. its based on:

Story of the year the song name is Swallow the Knife
