hehe...I am getting Kelly Clarkson & Clay Aiken as they have albums out and sing well and add them and at the end of each one you will hear Simon give them a little say so |

Wow, nice trumpet. Make sure you use smoothing groups to make it rounder!
Like I said before, my map will be a 1950's Sock Hop as seen on the original Back to the Future. Half of it will be in the parking lot with all kinds of classic cadillacs and the other half will be in the auditorium where the dance is. I will include music from artists like the temptations. An idea I had was to include all your names on your own liscense plate for the cars. |
I have an itchy, irratable rash. It's RED. |

Just a note of caution on the coding people use to include the music. Some ways will make it so that MAC users can't play the maps.
Mad Ferrit (in his WMP Jailbreak map) coded the music in such a way that MAC users don't get kicked and (at least one I played with) could actually hear the music (unusual for macs). Perhaps MF could post a short tutorial for us all so that we have a consistent inclusive formula in the map pack? |

Make the music a separate .vpp, even if you use events for the music. At least the Mac users can play the map that way. |
A common mistake people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools. |

Erm you mean the helicopter noise? That just keeps repeating over and over? I discovered that in some hosers map, who was it know? Ah yeah it was Frank Maybe he'd like to write a tutorial for us Nah, if needs be, I'll knock a cheeky tutorial up later |

Yes, they can if the events are done right. I have played Jewel in maps with music events, and she is an avid MAC user.

Not the helicopter sound, the jailbreak song. I was playing that map with a mac user and he commented on the song. I asked him if he heard the music and he said yes (identifying the song). I can't remember who it was (JJ, or BRADICAL, or some other mac player). I remember being surprised that they could hear the song and made a mental note to look at jailbreak in RED (never have though).
Whether it is seprate vpp, or some other magic, I just think we should all adopt some standard that works for mac users. A surprising number of the dwindling crowd of RF players are on macs and we should try and be inclusive of them (remembering how disappointed many were with the WEird Map PAck because they got kicked every other map).

Quoting mad_ferrit | Bravo Mostertman Looking great man
You must have used a fair ammount of faces upto now tho man... you might have to end up scaling everything up |
thus far i have this with only the guitar and the trumpet:
Adding brush: 38/38
Cleaning final geometry...
Building rooms...
Fixing up texture uvs for ps2...
Had to add 336 faces to fix ps2 tiling.
Fixing any t-joints...
Fixed 0 t-joints.
Checking for holes...
Found 0 holes
Brushes: 38
Portals: 0
Rooms: 10
Faces: 1558/10500
Face Vertices: 6934/50400
Vertices: 1893/13650
Rays recast: 1/2085
Quoting mad_rabbit | unless we can all help by suggesting uncomplicated musical instruments that don't have too many faces to them
|
Thats an good idea. Anyone got some good idea's for some low faced instruments.
I don't think a bag pipe is going to be in
Quoting lacrosse51 | Wow, nice trumpet. Make sure you use smoothing groups to make it rounder! |
Never heard of that before, Can you explain it a bit more, is it gonna give me even more faces?
And does anyone have a good texure for me for the trumpet, something shiney yellow metal like, but not to shiney. |

Hmmmm I hate to disappoint you man, but I am pretty sure I put the song to Jailbreak on a simple ambient sound, it only plays once doesn\'t it And if so, then Mac users can hear songs on ambient sounds can\'t they? I wouldn\'t know, not owning a Mac, but I would have thought so.
Quoting Lace | Yes, they can if the events are done right. I have played Jewel in maps with music events, and she is an avid MAC user. |
Hmmmm, could you elaborate a little please? If you can\'t tell us the way the events are rigged up, can you at least tell us the map-name so I can have a look and then explain to everyone what they need to do? It is quite an important point I feel considering the theme is music and we don\'t want to ostracise our fellow Mac users like we managed to do with RFU2
Quoting MonsterMunch | Thats an good idea. Anyone got some good idea\'s for some low faced instruments. |
Erm... Piano, Keyboard, Drums, DJ Decks, FLying V electric guitar... I\'ll keep thinking But you have to be careful when building things to keep the faces down. It's one of the biggest Arts of the editor - Finding a balance between what looks good and what is costly in terms of your limits
Quoting Monsters Red Editor | Had to add 336 faces to fix ps2 tiling. | I hope you\'ll be dealing with these too
Smoothing Groups
I think if you were to select all the textured faces of your trumpet in texture mode, and press Ctrl+P to go into their properties and check one of the "Smoothing Groups" checkbox, and then press ok. When you next calculate your maps and lighting you will notice a dramatic difference in the way the light is cast over your object. Sometimes I find this works a treat other times I do not

Lets say a max of 10MB. Same as the main VPP. We don't need to go overboard.

I reckon that the music.vvp is only for the music, and not for the other sounds you want to put into your level? |
