hmm i hope they have incorporated nVidia PhisX in this game. coz using geo mod heavily relies on a system that can do physics calculations.

Screw that, that would mean limited compatibility for older cards, and only people with nVidia would be able to play it. That would not be a good idea, as it would hurt the sales for the game. Good thinking, though

No that means that every one will be able to play it, just that people with Ageia or geforce8 and up with have accelerated Physics.
Take UT3, its got PhysX, but people with a PhysX card by Ageia or Geforce8/9/200 (with the new
NVidia PhysX drivers) can play the game faster.

What I want to see (even though I don't have one yet) is optimization for multi-cored CPU's. There just aren't enough games out there that really take advantage of these.

Actually there are many games basing on multi cores.

Dual core is the standard by now.
Far Cry 2 goes with octa core. That is 2x quad.

Oh and Ageia PhysX is officially dead.

skvlad01, I doubt you will be able to play games, that already base mostly on GPU load will play any faster. If the cpu is not fully working at capacity, it's the graphics card that breaks, and now if the cpu gets rid of the job of calculating physics and gives this job to the gpu, it ends in a disaster.
Games like Crysis, Assasins Creed, and UT3 heavly depend on gpu work, while the cpu does the physics job (and scripting, AI etc). The graphics card will most likely always be the break in these games - if the cpu is decent enough.
In games like Anno 1701, or C&C Tiberium with many units, pretty much everything bases on CPU load, if increasing res. or enabling AA do not have an impact on the fps, you'll know your cpu is too slow.

ak47, thanks for the video...

Is not specifically aim RF3, but am really tired about the amount of explosion in games and movies. Like many of us, Volition will not change my mind about first person, we lose the intense proximity of danger mood with third person. Is not dramatic to miss some explosions, the player will have many occasion to see them in play session, over and over, in the long run, is the gameplay dynamic of Geo the must. About vehicles, it can be nice and is always welcome when is done right, but am septic about what I will like in RF3 and hope that is not a battlefield clone mechanics. Just wish that they keep enough indoor close combat of RF root.

Recently some members talk again about server host map and application to download map in game. Instead or both done with L4Y dedicated server, can we bring this to life? L4Y is by far the biggest map archive of RF and best candidate to accomplish this with success.

I just saw a video that said the release is scheduled for Feb. 2009 but I'm too lazy to go check elsewhere. Has that been pushed back at all yet? I'm sure it will be, if it hasn't already.

I know there's a handful of games out there that utilize more than one core, but there still aren't enough. I would also like to see some 64-bit standards start to happen. The large majority of CPU's are 64-bit, and its about time to start dropping support for 32-bit. I'm not exactly thrilled about having to change my operating system, but it was bound to happen eventually.

Enough for what?
You don't own a dual core. Dual cores really aren't special to play with at all.

Games like Red Faction do not benefit, and do not require multi cores.
If Crysis would run on a single core good enough, why bother adding multi core support.

Multi cores are a way to keep pushing graphical and technical limits in games for the developers. It does not automatically make games look or play better, it depends on the money (publisher) and skill of the developers.

Same to the 64bit stuff. When you read it in magazines it's all new and shiny like multi cores. But what exactly can this do for us, and who would bother upgrading to it since most of the people are not even able to play Crysis on High, let alone Very High on 32bit systems. Vista sucks too much to make 64bit happen. And you cannot simply upgrade XP32 to 64bit like you can do with Vista.

Actually in games like Crysis you need more multi GPU support. The cpu core train can stop now. Whos talkin about cpus when you want graphics.

We have all of this amazing technology that developers refuse to tap into because they don't want to isolate the people too lazy or cheap to buy a decent computer and/or the people who don't know anything about computer gaming. Games could have much better performance if they'd just build a game around 64-bit dual core CPU's and porting them to 32-bit single cores instead of the other way around.

As for operating systems, there are options other than Windows Vista.

Maybe they know something we don't

Weird, this Halloween? Is that maybe just in the UK though cuz sometimes release dates are different by country.

As if the redfaction.com website still isn't up and running yet! You'd think if the release date is so soon, they'd have had it going already.

Yeah CPU are pretty much dead, as nvidia and AMD/Ati are working towards the software industry to write code of GPU's rather than CPU's.now all this is possible since nvidia have just implemented CUDA into thier GPU's. in the next 2-3 weeks nvidia will release the full version PhysX supported display driver. So basically all applications and games that support PhysX will all be off loaded to the GPU rather than the CPU. Its the beginning of the end of current CPU architecture.
