Well, if the Gametype is cloned from Assault, with a few tweaks it should work fine...

Ive been working on some textures (i plan to have ALL of RFs graphics (yes, even player and weapon skins) remade in high resoulution) I do realise that would take a bit long..


I don't mind modeling... when I can find time. I have alot of schoolwork this year (9 hours every day ). Don't expect amazing quality either, I just learned to model a week or two ago.

Also, I think the map naming conventions need to be changed in the new version. Using the proper map names instead of the dm01 through dm20 convention.

Well, after playing MarsWars 1.0 for a bit, I can make the following suggestions:

1. Let the player pick their own voicepack.
2. More player models.
3. More VCTF levels.
4. Allow the player a choice between RF1 and RF2 HUDs.
Those who follow the path of others lack the imagination or courage to create their own.
In my spare time I like to write game reviews for Game Revolution.

1. People can't suddenly change their voices. Can you? Why would you choose a Merc voice if you were playing as Parker?

yay it finally got posted..a POD (picture of the day) on UT2004 filefront. I sent them the screenshot of the two Jeeps..on top of each other (some may know it already)
It brings some attention to the mod, again
(we were unlucky with the release at ut2004.filefront.
At the same time when MW came out, tons of other files got released and Mars Wars wasn't even listed in the 10newest files This site is really big and unfortunately its easy to miss new files..)

Well when I play UT2004 VCTF I use the half life character skin and I use the cart man voice pack for his voice. I just like his comments A LOT better than any other that I have tried.

I tried to start a new VCTF map, I have the layout in my head but not down on the pc... will try again. BTW, what is needed for the Rail Arena? any special script? Do i need to place weapons etc?

EDIT: And to tell you the truth, i dont really like that map. Ive seen a few maps which i really like, ill be remaking those.

Rail Arena maps need nothing special. Just the map..and the gametype info in the level properties of course. (RFsystem.RFRAGame)
Some gametype names in the next version will change (RFDeathmatch will be RFDMGame, RFVehicleCTFGame will be just RFVCTFGame etc.) to make them easier to remember and shorter. You'll have to change them when the time has come for it

Never played that eternal depth map. Do you play it underwater? (most weapons are not useable underwater now. Forgot about that in 1.0)

That's all I needed to read on this thread.

If we release weapons or characters as mutators/modelpacks, people will lose the interest in the mod and won't stick to it anymore.

You could wait for the next version and put them into it.
What I want to see for a next release is more maps. Especially VCTF maps because I think they can be most fun. Its just no fun to play same maps over and over again.
I had a bad accident with my bike the last week and couldn't even use a PC for a while. It now works again, and I'm in the mood to do something again

Maybe you should try deleting the UnrealEdUSer.ini (back it up before u do.) or is it UnrealEd.cfg? forogot how it was called.
You could also delete UT2004.ini (backup) and see what happens.

Both should be freshly recreated when you start game/editor.

the UT2004.ini file is recreated? i dont think so...

When will the next version be though? Because i would like to have some (if only 1 or 2) maps released in between 1.0 and 1.1...

I agree, maps are a big thing.

Are the Flamethrower and Grenades working good?

I think that 1.1 should mearly be a BIG mappack, fix a few bugs... and mabye a few extras (flamethrower, player models, mabye a new weapon? That Eko-Manga you already have? Mabye it can replace the assault rifle or something?) Good thing about weapons replacing weapons in UT is that you dont have to worry about animation lenght or wether or not you will be cheating, because everyone on teh server will be running the mutator

V 1.2 will be the "Big Mother" with a couple of new gametypes with alot of accessories

Ive been working on that a RACTF gametype, but i think im going to scrap that idea and just work with you on MWINV, MWONS or MWMutant or something like that

Have you modeled any monsters yet? I can get started ASAP... Can UT2004 use standard 3ds max animations? I think it can due to my little "Animated Health-Teapot" experament (a slightly personalized version of the "Health-Sphere" from 3dbuzz )...

I can get started on that "secret gametype" because beat already has a map done for it which i tested today... well its alsmost done... It looks awesome!
The secret gametype will only need a couple of new models and about 10 new scripts... Im thinking it can extend MWVCTF
Beat also has a very cool RA map in the works

Alot going on? Not enough for me, to be honest
A RACTF gametype can be done real quick by merging small parts of RA to CTF. But I don't think that having more gametypes available means a better game. (I think its the opposite)
Been experimenting with grenades.. they'll have two kinds of explosion. The normal explosion, and the other type will be an EMP. (electro-magnetic pulse or something)
If we can't get new monsters done we could stick to the UT2004(03) ones. I've added the Red Faction drone to the game but not even that one is done yet. There are many other things I've got to take care of for the moment. But Invasion is really cool, especially with a flamethrower .(which is still using the shotgun model)
Also another really cool, but small thing is the steering wheel of the jeep rotates(and player moves hands)..it looks MUCH better driving the jeep in first person now! Argh I should work on CENSORED pits for the apc and aesir, too.
Assaultman67, if you have time, take a look at the RFII player taunts, you may find something useful there. (I can't because its all german, again - I'm wondering why german soundfiles aren't incompatible when you join an english server. Or are they? I could never join one yet..*cough*)

Yes its possible to use Vertex animated meshes. But thats old-fashion.
All monsters of UT2004 use that technique, and the CTF flags for example. It wouldn't be possible to animate flags with the Physique modifier (compareable with RFBone)
Characters and weapons are usually animated with this modifier. 'Physique' is like 'Skin' or 'RFBone'. You make a mesh, the bones and link them, and then you add the Physique and skin the thing.
I couldn't find tutorials for this (most of them are for old UT..vertex animation) But FarCry uses the same technique. And a bit of RF, too.
Oh well..you know what, if you make a model I could take care of the animations(if I can find time for it).
