We have attempted to restart the Red Faction gametracker. Long story short is that it should have been up and running, but due to some hardware moves, it was taken down and accidetnally not brought back online.
We believe that the problem is rectified. I have tested the servers _internally_ at Volition and it works, but it's possible that there are still external problems. I will monitor this forum for a while to see if others are having problems. I apologize for the delay in getting it back online.

Is the master tracker's address still the same? I just tested it and my RF couldn't connect to the tracker. |

Yes, it still should be the same, which is rf.thqmultiplay.net. It is possible that because of the move, we might be having firewall trouble. I will look into that. Thank you for your quick response.
(10:15AMCST) - We have addressed a firewall issue for the tracker. I would be curious to know if it's working now. |

*cough* This reminds me of the last time a Red Faction creator stepped forward and started posting here. He was answering questions about RF and hinting at RF3. It was great! Oh yeah and then we found out he really wasn't who he said he was and the person did it just for a laugh  |

You all can either help me, or not. If you don't, we can't get the tracker up and running again. I'm not here to talk about RF3 or any other future Volition projects.
I'm here to try and get the tracker up and running for you. I am doing the best that I can do. |

I am still having trouble with the servers as well. I cannot connect to the master server. i was running the ][~WTC~][-Server dedicated server and a guy came in and told me the master server was working again and i was like " OMFG IS IT REALLY?!?!?!?!  " and then he said but there is no games showing or anything. Then i tried it and they weren't working or even connecting still for me... it was a truly exited out of my mind to a extremely disappointed moment lol  |

Turns out that since the tracker moved machine, the IP address wasn't registered correctly through DNS. The proper IP address has been tied to rf.thqmultiplay.com, but it could take a number of hours to a number of days to propogate to any given machine -- depending on service providers, etc. That's just how it works. For most, it _should_ happen soon. In the meantime, if you _want_, you can try to use the direct IP address. You can enter the launcher, setup, network tab, and then enter 208.49.84.217 in the edit box provided (it should say rf.thqmultiplay.net). Hopefully that will work -- if it does not, please post back here and I will continue to follow up.
A couple of other comments. First, it's hard to diagnose the problems because V is isolated in an internal network in this particular situation. I have no machines _at work_ that I can use to help me diagnose, which is why I must rely on you all to help. It's not rocket science, but sometimes it takes time to figure the exact problem. Second, my name isn't in the credits because I didn't work on the game. For the curious, I've worked on Descent, DII, Freespace, Summoner, and helped with the PC port of Punisher. Anyone who is curious can check the web site (http://www.volition-inc.com) and check out the bios.
And as I currently look at the game tracker, I see 6 active games, which makes me think that it is indeed back online. |
