U are right, in most what u write. But i asked THQ
take over their server temp, means for the time they
need to fix them server. But as i readed along on websites
and so on . THQ aint intrested, i read them reply. We
offered this cause we have a fast l3 server up that can do
this but we miss the software.
I olso hope THQ will bring up their server ( tracker ) but
all they do is this : In a view days , in a week , in about
3 weeks , check in december again. Hmmm I run servers but if
something go wrong i can fix it in 2 or 3 days if it has to be
a compleet new machine. Now com one .... If THQ can not fix this
as a big company. lot mony arround in 24 hours ?? I think THQ please
do not host any game at any time at all.
For now we as RF com has the problem , we are lamed full . We
try to get our com up and living asap. I hope to get somewhere
the software or what ever to make sure this runs again.
If thq aint respond , we have to do it ourselfs , Or what !!

i think that it's great they're still maintaining the server for rf after all this time. but mabye they could have had a backup server? or what? is there some problem with that? i'm only worried that when rf comes back online that people won't want to play it after such a long break. I hope not. I'm still gonna play |

Hello all,
I would like to make a suggestion:
why dont make a web server application in wich everyone would be able to add rf server IPs (and ports) in an existing list. Then, when click on a particular link, web server should generate a favlist.adr file automatically wich all users can download?
I can do this web server, if u want, but I need help for english, german and spanish translation. And someone to verify if game servers in the list are up in order to delete them if they are not...
Someone interrested ?

Idea is good but let's wait until informed deadline when master tracker should come back online, before we go online with this. |

Curently PanjaLand has a place where you can add your IP address and it will also display the status of the servers listed:
PanjaLand
As far as their server is concerned, here is what they had to do:
Quote | So thanks to THQ's less-than-reliable gametracker server, I've started a fast server status list on the front page, and will be adding a user-submission ability soon (never know how long THQ can keep a server up for). Also, after the extreme downtime, I've rolled panjaland back to an all-micro maplist to drive up play (it has been falling off since going custom, making for fewer large-scale battles). Happy gaming all, as always comments, gripes, and recommendations are welcome in the forums. |
But then again, those are old news from February 28, 2005 just to give you an idea when the same thing happen last time. |

Okay it seems that panjaland is working
Anyway I think that some kind of "custom" gametracker should be done for RF incase THQ really shutsdown main rf game tracker. |

I am currently working on a GameTracker style program: GameQ for Joomla! - it seems that the server query class I am running is a little more'fancy' than the Panjaland site [although panjaland still does the job perfectly]. I don't mind incorporating any IP's that wish to be added to the GameQ site. Check out the current RF listings here. Red Faction for GameQ. Please note the ping is pinging from USA somewhere and is only a guide. Basically it is the time the server takes to respond to the query.
If there are enough requests I will set up a dedicated Red Faction category for you all.
Unforunately this is not a Game Tracker in the sense of the RF game tracker, but it does the job well enough. |
If I ever get to where I am going, will I know when I am there? |

What was the date THQ said they'd have the master up again Franky?
The 20 somethingth of this month wasn't it? I'm only asking because if THQ have already given a date for it to come back up then it's pointless to email them before that date.
As for the alternative tracker, we had one years ago. Franky has still got a copy of one of them and Garner has previously said he will host it. If Garner can't then somebody else will and we can all chip in for it ok?
Just chill the hell out. RF has been down before and it will be down again. In the mean time just go play and enjoy yourselves.
Just be content with the fact that when THQ finally drop the ball (not any time soon if they know what's good for them), there are people ready to pick the ball up and run with it.
Here my American football analogy breaks down because I've been typing for 5 minutes so I gotta have a 25 minute break now.
In reply to Trigger.
smallfry (corpsesinc) and RHF also did that kinda thing (querying servers from a website) way back a few years ago.
I know absolutely F-all about how websites work apart from the very basics and about the same for RF but if you need to get that type of thing working, smallfy and RHF are two that had it working years ago. That's apart from ctrlfreq at Panja.
Though how easy they are to get hold of nowadays is a different matter |

It was Kevin from Ausfaction who wrote the Red Faction query class - i remember a bit of angst between smallfry[i think - long time ago now] and kevin over this issue [yeah, i am an anonymous forum goer]. Either way, it is still going to this day and thanks to Kevin for helping out Tom Buskens with GameQ. Where did ausfaction go? |

THQ .. mailed that the server up in December somewhere. So
they put this further and further away. If only we had the
software it would be up running in min. Several say they have
the software , but they just talk important but have nothing at
all. If someone had it RF would run already thought. The RF com
has enoug servers and fast lines arround for that server tracker.
Only thing that changes for players is set up the adress in their
rf settings from ( rf.thqmultiplay.net ) to wherever the server tracker is installed.
So we can only wait for THQ or wait for some RF intrested who can
make us or set up the tracker server. |

I already have such an application, only then even better then in your description. Your description would make a list with a quite big number of IPs that might be down. A while ago (read the Server IPs thread) I was making a master servers, it was almost done but i was missing a small number of bytes that i couldn't find back (I can only find them when the master server is back up). My application however, had a WEBtracker, every server that used my IP as a mastertracker automaticly appeared on the website as long as it was up (all i was missing were 9 bytes and i had a FULL master tracker wich could be used in game).
Anyhow .... I have a feeling my English sucks ... hey, don't blame me ... it's morning (after friday night ).
Edit: Hold on, I'll put the server up for example uses
Edit2:
'For anyone that runs a server, use the following master server: 80.57.179.172 to get your IP on the WEBtracker'
'For anyone that wants to see all current running servers on the master tracker use the webtracker at http://80.57.179.172:801/ ' |

im confused, is that a tracker to replace thq.multiplay.net? or just a server list? |

BTW, For those lazy people I can add a PHP Script (made this months and MONTHS ago) to ping all servers and get life statistics
I Used to have a server browser for PHP
Edit: Goober ... It is a mastertracker with only ONE function missing (in-game server browsing ) ... for the rest it understands EVERY MASTER TRACKER command. So ... it's a bit hard to explain ... to finish the final function i need to know a small number of bytes (the package the RF Master Tracker sends to it's client in HEX or normal Data)
But to answer your question, the website you visit contains a list of IPs of every server connected to my master server (servers that have set up my IP as the master server will appear on the list).
The benefit of that is ... is that 99% of the IPs it sends are up and anyone can add a server instantly without having the problem that someone adds a fake server and slows down the whole browsing process. |
