How about ask Valve or id or Microsoft to buy the RF franchise and renew it and make another version of RF and RF2[with multiplayer of course and RED 2.0] and buy the whole volition team that worked on RF to make RF 3? And ask them to make a master server thats compatible for all 3 versions of RF?
Yeah its wacky but its crazy enough to work  ..........I think  |

A mass mailing campaign is actually illegal, although if done properly wouldn't be tracable. If you plan to do this, use a web proxy to find a site to create a new mail address, and input fake names and addresses for it. The entire time you use this fake address, use the proxy, so the server can't say it was routed back to you. If you have broadband, download a proxy program, then use the web proxy (or two or three). The high level of "bouncing" will confuse anything but a government-level inqusition (as the FBI has the power to trace through about 20 bounces (might be more/less, as the statistic is old) and if they look hard enough).
Now, if you're looking for an intelligent argument with THQ, read more of my 20 page posts. If you'll note, I very, very rarely use anything but the Queen's English (or at least something that can pass for it. I've actually been rated at writing at an English major's level, although I would doubt that source (it was my favorite teacher who is partial to a lot of his students (if he likes you, he'll pass you, if not, you'll be graded more harshly).)). The more you read, the more you'll get the basic idea of correct grammar. This is actually how I developed my own skills (reading pages of professional reports on varying topics).
To help you, download Wordweb Personal Edition , a desktop dictonary/thesaurus. If you use it often, you'll find yourself using the thesaurus less and less (I use it only for spelling).
An example letter to THQ would resemble as such:
"Dear System Administrator of the Red Faction division of THQ,
Recently, the users of the game called "Red Faction" have noticed that your Game Tracker has gone offline. The fans of Red Faction have commissioned me to write a letter and procure a response that is both prompt and informative.
As of this writing, we realize that the Game Tracker is offline for maintenance. We would like to inquire as to what this maintenance entails, and a probable timeline of when the Game Tracker will be back online.
We would greatly appreciate it if you would kindly reply, as Red Faction is a game we all hold dearly to our hearts. While we await the Game Tracker's return in agony, we can only hope that the maintenance does not take longer than the projected timeline that we have requested. We eagerly await the day the Game Tracker will be back online, and wish you well as you continue to maintain and operate the Game Tracker.

Now, if you use my example in a future mailing, just tell me so I can feel special about having helped RF's future along. The key to proper writing is not only good grammar and spelling, but to try to appeal to the person. Also, run the message through MS Word, as I did. After I did that, I noticed I misspelled maintenance multiple times (I used "maintanance") and a few questions had suspect verb usage and other grammatical mistakes. To ensure that you have the maximum of proper grammar, go under "Tools", "Options", "Spelling & Grammar" tab, "Settings", and activate every checkbox. This setting is of the highest that a word processor can check your writings, and is often better than real college professor's judgement (my one cousin wrote an essay by hand, had it graded (for a letter grade of an "A", as percentages aren't given there), then decided to use it as her graduation project (requirement the college has). After typing it and checking the spelling and grammar, she found multiple problems that would have definately been the source of the paper's rejection), although not often enough to rely on completely.
Anyway, THQ will definately respond better if you write in proper English and are flattering to the reader. Using the above example, you'd be almost guaranteed a proper response (unless a e-mail bot is taking care of the mail). I'd mail it myself, but I don't know their address and I don't like to take the credit for something done for the benefit of others (or credit in general, I dislike to a great extent people who constantly look for praise and credit for something, no matter the size of their contribution. You are supposed to do something for the benefit of others, not just for the glory). |

actually a mass email campeighn is only illegal if done by a small group of ppl to one persone with the intent to hog or steal bandwidth, so the server goes down. and sence thats not our intention it wont be illegal |

What ever happened to the Game Tracker we used last time it went down for a long while? If I remember correctly Viper was running one that looked just like the origional and Frank or someone had another that worked as well.....(maybe it was Red Frog)

Let's just write a draft, hell they don't even have to be the same letter. But I know if I were receiving a box full of email everday - I would look into fixing things much quicker. It would only take a second to resend the same email everyday. It needs to be a community effort to have any impact.

True we can keep sending them emails but that might piss them off and decide to not bring it back. I think we need to be patient and wait until... I think I read somewhere that the date the server was going to be back by was Thursday, November 24. That day also happens to be Thanksgiving here in the United States, if the server is back up by then, we will all have something to truly be thankful for. |

Or we play the R3D FROGS Lego Mod?
Or someone makes a server with the Laser 4 mod if possible. |

DOH Hi all. This brings us nothing at all. THQ aint
intrested to bring them server up.
My question is this !!!!
Who kno , what or where we could get the master server
software ????
We have a level3 backbone line and server on it so we
could host it. I already sended THQ a mail 14 days ago
and asked to take over their hosting problem , temp or
for the time RF com is alive. Ques what NO RESPOND.
So if anyone has an idea where to get it or someone who
could write it pleae respond asap.
BTW.. level 3 is a world connected trippel crossed backbone.

I am too waiting to returning to fragging fields, but I definetly know that improper email spamming does not help situation at all and in worst case only pisses THQ for good.
So what I would suggest entire community to do now, (dedicated server hosters especially) Is that everyone WHO still sends THQ email about this matter, does it very delicant way because one thing is sure : Nobody cares about arrogant fans anywhere.
And these seem to apply some of users here.
Also when i get somekind of information how much help I am going to get for my modification project (an forward sended email is going in somewhere in assembly oldskool squad) I will try to make my mod so that it cauths THQ's attennion from some bigger magazine (they realize that they might slip away good number of fans if they stop to support this (my) mod project.
SO generally hold your patience, it is best way we can help situation here.
Since I have bad feeling(because this have taken already so long) that some important and NOT replaceable components broke down from old machine and they have to rebuild new one (and make software to run on it propely) And that thing is not the fastest one to do.
EDIT : Vidi44 email could be used as base IF NEEDED. |
