Well, if I let everyone into the SPMC, it would only undermine it. Sure, we'd have more maps, but if there's 5 bad maps against 2 good maps, the whole project will look like nothing but noob-material.
SPMC has been pretty well advertised, as this thread itself spans 8 pages. As for the amateurishness of its organization, it should be very apparant this is my first competition that I organized (participated in some, but never organized). Normally I'd have just passed the baton on this, but being that it was my idea, and I was called an uber-noob for trying to do so in the past (back when it was first thought of, I tried to get a few other promenant RF mappers in to organize this. They refused or ignored it, and so I was pretty much left to do it myself). Anyway, SPMC 2K5 is the first of them all, and it is understandable that it is poorly organized (as far as I know, there have been no other SP mapping competitions). How would you like to try to organize a new government when you've only a few references to governments whose ideas don't apply (I could go into how that analogy is basically the Iraqi provincial government and the US's "encouragement" that they quickly make their own government in less than a year (despite the fact that it took the US years to get their own government in place, and it still was poorly-organized for years after), but this is a gaming site and the thread has had far too many diversions already).
If you'd like a final date, we'll vote on it. If I set a long one, people will forget about their projects and neglect them (sort of like I already did). If I set it too short, people won't have time to do their maps. A few months is a bit much, as technically we've had two already. However, if I extend it only so far and need to re-extend, people will lose interest in this, as (just like the Goldeneye mod under pp7006) it will look like we're trying to do too much and have no idea what we're doing. The ideal timeline then would be somewhere before Spring and after New Year's. To average it out (I hold mid-March as the rough start of Spring, although it probably isn't), it would be roughly at the start of February. Now, we can vote on the day in February, or decide to adjust that date to another month .
Of course, to keep our interests alive, we should opt to update our progress either weekly or semi-monthly (or biweekly (or fortnighly for the Britons), or every two weeks). Thus, we should hit the ideal spot to where we'll remind each other of the project. Either that or we could just let ourselves go, and risk forgetting about it (constant conversation about it keeps our minds reminded of it so we can't let it just "sit until tomorrow"). If you'd like, we (mostly me or maybe Garner, as he could interface with L4Y far better that I could hope to) could write a small script and put it somewhere on L4Y (wonder if L4Y would even allow that insofar as the forum's abilities), most likly this thread.
As far as the additional advertising, why not? NCF could put a small mention in every couple of releases and there'd be additional discussion about it. It certainly couldn't hurt, except for the e-mailing (PMs work better, as e-mails may have whitelists that block unknown addresses).
Finally, the rules are set as they are, as no one has suggested more adjustments. Thus, you can sleep well knowing that your project will not be invalidated before you wake up. |

Don't worry, I got a perfect on my history finals in 7th and 8th grades. It was never done before or since
As far as the later years of school, it isn't so bad if you take the time to study. It takes a year or two to adjust, then you should be knowledgable on how to half-sleep in school and still get perfects on tests (possibly because in my school, you get to pick your classes and what time you have them. Thus, you can give yourself study halls in the morning and alternate between easy and hard classes throughout the day). |

My schedule (simple right now):
Calculus
Engineering I
English 12
Study Hall
All are easy, with the slight exception of some topics in Calculus. If I don't understand something, I have an 80 min study hall, then a 35 min "enrichment" period (basically school-wide study hall). With 115 mins of learning time (plus class time), Calculus is easier than last quarter (where I had just the class time).
My school's fairly sad in that only a few select courses are for credit. That will change next year (won't help me) when the local community college will offer 20 more classes in addition to the local university's 10 or so classes. If I took the same classes as I'm taking now next year (say I fail mysteriously and don't graduate, and fall into a time-warp or whatnot), almost all my classes would be for college credit. One can imagine how arged I was to hear it would start next year and I'm not applicable for it as I gradiate (intentional misspell) this year
Anyway, great level Assaultman. I look to see some great work from you. So far, mine's a series of rooms (cubic) connected by a vast hallway. I also have a giant outside area (110 by 65 by 50), and it's unportaled! (after UVUnwrapping for a while, I found a way to cut the PS2 faces down to nothing (I think they're only around 200, which considering the size of that one room alone, is amazing)).
I look forward to your level Assaultman. |
