Well I have progressed a bit into the map, some older screenshots are in my CDC. I haven't added any more buildings yet, I'm just working on all the stuff inside the buildings. Tables, anvils, workbenches, torches, stools, tool racks, beds, doors, ladders, shelves, and so on. I'm also trying to get the lighting to look somewhat realistic.

<--Lvl 80 in RuneScape, btw. Played on and off for about a year and a half now.

Working on a new Christmas map and in the process I ran into a little snag...

Just so happens I somehow pissed RED off by too many lights or too many brushes or too many faces too many this or that.. I really don't care. The point is, whatever I did I saved it after I did it, but before the shutdown, so whenever I load the level I get an automatic shutdown.

Fortunately I tested the map recently and I was able to extract an .rfl from the .vpp. But I still lost quite a bit of work from the original file to the one I extracted.

Is there anything I can do to retrieve the original .rfl file? My gut tells me there isn't and I will have to re-build much of my map, but I was hoping you all might a solution I don't know about...

Afterthought: I really hate RED...

Anyway, just in case I ever finish the map and able to release it, here is a sneak-peak...

you could try opening RED and going to view then "render everything" or "render nothing" (Both ways usually work) then open your rfl and if it opens then try to find whats causing the problem or add some portals or something.

wow bigblack40, that has got to be the best micro ive seen in quite a while... great use of custom textures! Can't wait for its release.

I've tried my hand at a few micro maps, never very sucessful because I'm not a very good texture maker. Mabye if I learned GIMP a little better...

I am probably not going to be able to make my dm-varroc level as I have planned, with every little object there is in RS. All the grass, crates, barrels, beds, torches, piles of rocks on the ground, or atleast not to the detail I have it. Just the building that has Auburys rune shop is taking up about 1/4 of RED's limits.

I can always make it without every little object, would make a good freeroaming map.

If you finish Varrok, i may be tempted to make another city from RS. That motavate you at all?! Use DVL_IAC's way of going past REDs limits

ive got alot of crap in my room also so im making it with out all the Paper on my desk (im always doin doodles one of them are on the pinboard of the supra, it was a quick doodle thats why the wheels are out line) but im still having the game cube, pens, drinks etc on desk,im also gonna try make an Ipod with Moving VBM texture while it's playing a song, Music for map will be Guns n Roses - Sweet Child O' Mine or Spineshank -Violent Mood Swings,

LOL, no ... songs are very important to the overall feel of a map ... a good song has to reflect that feeling you want to portray ...

my suggestion is to pick a song that reflects the feel of your room, not just a song you really like ...

music can make or break levels and movies (look at Star Wars for example, it wouldn't be the same with disco music ... which was the most popular music at the time) (or the matrix) (or how ingame music helps portray the overall feel of a map in a game)

... im trying to find a certain word to explain it, but i can't remeber it ...

None of the Default Multiplayer levels ever had any music/sounds and they were all really good for that reason.. They would have sucked If they had random songs playing (Since they aren't musicians they are mappers) A few small sound effects are no problem, But a constant music loop/song isn't as atmoshperic in my eyes for a Micro Map.. Some maps have been done well with choice of music and that type of thing (Woc 2) I thought anyway.. But It comes to a stage where people start remembering the map by It's soundtrack, When personally I'd prefer to remember the map by It's gameplay.

For a Micromap I think no constant music would suit it alot more, and maybe just have a few ambient sounds when you're approaching a nearby sound system (example: mobile phone) Otherwise it will feel like you're inside a stero system which you can't escape.. Which is hardly the case.

Thats a good idea, Ive been making an Ipod for my Mirco Room and its going to have headfones (god the cords gonna be hard to make ) and when you approach the Ipod's headphones you can hear music
any ways this afternoon i made the ipod here's the pics for it (ill inport it as a group when im finnished)
the Ipod will be somwhere on my desk or beside my gameCube on my tv, it really depends when i finnish it where i have placed it in my bedroom

OMG ITS AMAZING! THE IPOD ISNT JUST A BOX WITH TEXTURES!!!! Thats a first!!! the screen digs in with glass in front, there is a headfone jack and also it is rounded like an Ipod should be!
