I've been doing that on some maps, and bang, people were complaining.
It's not so good to change an already existing object with a new, totally different looking mesh. Like to overwrite a rock with a large tree .

There are some many people who don't care about the readme file.
And even if they do they'll forget the map that has changed a mesh.

There are unused/borken entries in the clutters.tbl
Clutter objects that doesn't exist because of a missing .v3m file.
I never tested it but perhaps it is possible to name a custom mesh to such a missing v3m file and add it to the map vpp. Then you'd have to test it with a friend.

(clutter objects that missing the v3m file are not listened in RED, but will be until you've added the mesh to a vpp.)

beat, im gonna make a kind of offie setting map i think, im gonna have u know those spinning glassdoors, they spin in a circle and u get in between them, i was wondering if you could make me some moving glass ill need about H-3 W-2 D-0.2

Ah you must be talking about the "RED JUSTICE" incident and one of the RFU maps made by....hmmm REDFROG! LOL I have to admit, it threw me of guard playing his map "DM - Asteroid (<--RJ Map plug ). I was What The Heck was he thinking putting floating trees in outer-space.
Changing any of the default things in Red Faction should only be done with a warning in the read me file and on the description posted with the map. This way if people don't want any modification they won't load the map and be pissed later on.

Glass test map

It includes a Clutter object, it overwrites one which isnt even available in REd editor, as Red Frog said I did use the plain see-thru glass but it was so transparent you couldnt see it.


Negative sides...

1. Its Flesh, if you shoot the glass it acts as Flesh, this is due to the clutter object I overwrote, it was the first one I found that you couldnt walk through.

2. It doesnt break. once again just search for the relevant object with breakable = 1 (I think)

I forgot to link up one iof the still glass panels to the Trigger. but the main one moves fine.

You can't. That's what the object has to be obscure and unused.
Uninstall the VPP to make it stop.
The glass object should be flat, square and 50 x50 cm so that you can place several of them to have a bigger glass.


Surely you can add more objects instead of replacing old ones.. could you just make up a file that does not exist and add it to the map.. because noone would have the file.. there would be no conflict.

the glass is cool except when you shoot it blood flies everywhere but either then that it's perfact

Hehe you should try changing tree onjects to collide with everything... they bleed too

Just use a non-flesh object then
And one that has life ( though I think when it 'shatters' it won't be the same as normal glass )

you can sort of control the shattering type if im correct. IE, take a plant pot, they break but sound like Ceramic, so change the sound file to a Glass shattering and voila, however you would need to also change a few other bits and pieces.

However, table edits aren't good. No matter what they do, they wont let you use Lazy Ban1.3 anyhoo... I guess I could take another look at it and try to find an object that might suit it.

yeah but still..if you overwrite a previous clutter object such as a pot plant... then you go into other maps with the pot plant and it looks a bit odd.

surely there must be a way to add clutter without overwriting.

Not without Modding, or overwriting a "hidden" object. an object that has details but is missing a Mesh and therefore, unselectable. So you just add the mesh, as I did here.

the Pot plant was an example.
