I just have 1 question.

WHY ARE YOU GUYS NOT PLAYING MARS WARS?????

This mod is totally awesome!!! Better than the original RF with more game modes all the original maps and even some customs.

It's the only way to play RF in 32 bit 1920x1200 resolution.

Awesome, Awesome, Awesome.

Great Job RED FROG.

NOW GO GET YOUR COPY OF UT2004 IF YOU DONT HAVE IT AND LOAD THE MOD!!

RF Fans will NOT be disappointed!!!!!!

A large majority of the RF members here have played Mars Wars. It's a great mod, but many people would rather play the original RF. IMO there's one major thing missing from Mars Wars, true geomod.

Well actually i think mars wars is better than the original Red Faction, better graphics, vehicles...

2 problems thou.

- Not many players playing it
- I play Red Faction rather than UT2004 because my low end computer has difficulties running UT2004 (only with the low detail levels it's all blury and it takes age to load and to get back to my desktop when I quit the game)

If i had a good computer, i would surely play UT2004 much more often and RF no longer at all. All the more so that MarsWars is probably not even the best TC for UT2004.

Well there is one that I know of is Drawn to be alive, but it's not realeased yet.. I don't know what they are doing the whole time
Sure, MW is an advanced copy of RF, other TCs are often more original. (but many are CS rips as well)

Thanks for your support MadMac It's hard to get people playing something which is not played by others. Such posts make me want to continue on the mod.

Well I goto admit I kind of get annoyed at those players that join in online and just want to simply blow up the whole map. I mean if you want to do that for petes sake just do it offline instead of wasting bandwidth!

Weren't you saying in the MW forums that it keeps crashing on your Mac?
I really have no idea why that happens. The log file of James doesn't say anything bad..
It might be a sound or texture that crashes Macs, but I can't test it out myself.

I dont play alot because first of all i do not get a RF feeling with it at all.

Textures are so bright, weapons are so.. different. they all feel like a handgun from normal RF, cant explain why though.

Yeah strange - cause it didn't crash in Version 1. I noticed it happened the for the 2nd time when I was firing the shot gun into the wall in DM01 Assault mode. It appears to be totally random but. I have played on other occasians for over an hour with no crashes in V2.

This bug may also be present on the PC and you guys haven't come across it yet?

I also found this initially but then found it was mostly due to the mouse settings in UT. Try adjusting the mouse sensitivity and mouse smoothing settings. This worked for me.

I have to agree with that. Geomod could probably be a strategic asset and develop strategic possibilities in a RF game but in fact Geo is rarely used on servers. It is used on certain popular servers like cobra that are running the "enhanced geo and damage" modification. Those servers are the only ones where you can use massively geomod but it's not strategic at all. everybody starts blowing up everything and the map looks like a holed cheese. You spawn in craters where you get stuck. Sometimes there is a tunel to opponent flag but it's just another way to the flag and it doesn't advantage a team to the dismay of the other. The exit of the tunel is guarded. In the end Geomod is just pretty annoying (even thou it could explain the popularity of those servers)

I'm more of a rail only ctf map player. IMO, it's the most noticeable difference with UT2004.
Rail only CTF gametype is pretty similar to UT2004 instagib CTF. But there is a difference. You can kill through walls or shoot several players in a row. That's a new feeling compared to instagib. It's a pleasure to frag someone through a wall by guessing his position.

That should be implemented as a gametype in marswar: Rail instagib.(I don't remember if it has been done yet). Like in instagib, you spawn with rail gun ( ability to shoot throu walls, thermovision, shoot several players in a row [the more, the better; infinite if possible], like in instagib each shot is instant kill. Like instagib you have infinite ammo. Every map could be played in rail instagib by just removing all weapons.

There specially is a Rail Arena mutator in Mars Wars for railgun only games.

Uhm..I don't think the "bug" causes PCs to crash. MWv2 quite never crashes at all. Crashes are not acceptable, even if they happened not that often...they are annoying.
But you can never say it doesn't crash at all because even UT2004 itself crashed for me now and then, which were mutators faults, and sometimes the karma engine.

Mouse smoothing should be low.

Well the engine is different. Many maps need a little lighting tweaks and the gravity has to be lowered. All this has been done for the possible 2.1. (Changelog)

It appears that this bug is not related to Mars Wars or even UT! It looks like it is a Driver issue.

Many others are having the exact same problem with UT and other games at the moment.

Unreal Engines are one of the best and the most used by mod community & developer to make game. Is a lot more customizable than RF!! Is just less user friendly...

I too played it a lot some time ago. When I had no internet and I developed MW1.0 it was my top favorite game. The bots do an extremly good job imo.

Sorry to say this but in this case it seems like you have no idea about Red Faction Doc.

Red Faction is one of the most limited modable games I've ever seen.

YOU CAN'T create anything you want. Perhaps in your dreams.
You cannot touch or even smell the real code of RF. All you can do is to change some PROPERTIES which belong to the hidden code of Red Faction that we can't modify.

If you still say you can do anything with Red Faction, then... create a cow launcher weapon. Make it launch a cow that hunts enemies.
You will not be able to do this, in your whole lifetime.

Well, then an easier thing... modify the walk velocity that is used by players in multiplayer. It is hardcoded. Now that was an easy to do thing, but its not possible.
Can you do more changes on the HUD than repositioning and retexturing it? no. (such as adding new information on frags, score, ping etc)

In UT04, Cryengine or Source or any other recent modable engine you can create this cow launcher with no problem at all if you have experience with the programming language.

Gungame is HACKING the game. Hacking is not always used just for those who want to find out passwords or files. It is also used by programmers when they try to get things to run in the not so usual way.. and this definitally is what all the 3rd party gungame programms do with Red Faction. They don't even belong to it.
We can't modify the code of Red Faction, so digital_ruler goober and trotskie had to find another way to reach their goal. They modify the data stored in the RAM which seems to be accessable easy enough in Red Faction.

This is not a new thing, Trainers (cheats) for other games do the exact same thing. They look for hex decimals in the RAM and can freeze them so you always have 100health or a special weapon. It's all stored there....but also that doesn't let you do this cow launcher because it's just some data hacks.

Gungame is the result of modifying data strings, but it's not completely a new gametype. They have looked for the possibilities, and made something of it.
Understanding how Gungame works is a little hard. But you can see it like regedit of windows with all its decimals. Imagine Ammo amounts and health would be stored there in realtime and you can modify it while the game is running. THIS is the way they do it..with automated operating procedure software.

Now don't let me get started what is possible in UT2004.
First... Mars Wars was possible.

This is to give you an idea what I am talking about. Have you seen something like this in RF? No. But it's there...and it must be compiled in RF.exe or RedFaction.exe. Otherwise the game wouldnt work. Table files such as RF ones cannot run a game at all, they only hold information of properties.
But even for UT2004 not everything is possible, modding the game as a fan (which is limited by the root at some aspects such as the karma physics engine) and working on the engine (the root of everything) as a developer are two different things.

I'm not wanting to speak badly of Red Faction, but we all know the limitations and saying that everything was possible is *cough* not true.

Acually REDFROG - You have been misinformed as to how GunGame works and is done.

How can you say its not a new gametype? If it has a entirely new gameplay style - Its a new gametype.


By the way REDFROG - It's exceptionally easy to edit the velocity of a MP.

Its kinda disappointing to see people come out of the wood work 3 months after the mod was released and then say its the best thing since sliced bread ... when 2.0 was released no one really cared ... really sucked

You are not really looking after anti cheat technology, sorry but it's the opposite of it.

I'd be glad if MW was played, then all this loser cheating would be over without missing to play my favorite game.
