Quoting Mostertman | Owkee I have some piano key sounds found on the internet. What do you reckon is the best way to put them into the level, I want to hair them one by one if i walk over the keys, reckon i want to put in 7 piano key sounds. |
well, the best way would be to add a keyframe to each key, and put the sound in the keyframes. altho...i think that is considered in the same manner as a sound event , and im not sure if mac users could use it.
not sure tho.....Ferrit????? |

LOL...
At least keyframe sounds do not cause the map to crash for MAC users like music events do. Whether they can hear them or not I do not know, I do not have a MAC.
Monsterman, do what Dankone said for the piano keys.
If you are going to have them move when you stand on them then make the trigger area right above them... pretty obvious stuff. Give the piano keys a keyframe to move and link with the trigger. The Sound wav goes in the start sound.
Edit: The CDC is looking a bit bare, not even a list of mappers and their chosen ideas on there |

I did it this way:
The keys of the piano Is one big brush so they arent going to be moving. I've put 7 trigger boxes next to each other (above the piano keys brush). I've linked each one of them to a keyframe linked to a brush group of 0.5x0.5x0.5 and texured them with an invisible texure, and gave them the properties "rotate inplace" and no "player colide" and the keyframes have the coresponding sound to them. added the sounds tot the vvp afterwards. This way works. But I can't make it so that the sounds are in a seperate vvp, can I ? |

yes you can. just make sure they are named the same as they are in the map itself, and you can call the vpp anything you want.(until the end that is. i think WIZ wants them named like: RFU4-mapname-audio) |

You did it the right way Monster...
I imagine the sounds are quite small in filesize and if they fit into the overall 10MB limit on the map-size then keep them in the map VPP. If you are struggling because you've used billions of custom textures then do what Dankone said.
I think the seperate music VPP is essentially to accomodate the songs that will be put into the maps, not the sound effects |

I've set aside my original idea (micro teenage bedroom) and have been working on my secondary idea. Basically, it is a recreation of the scene from Stanley Kubrick's 2001 A Space Odyssey where the shuttle is docking with the space station and Blue Danube is playing.
I want the gameplay to happen floating in the low gravity so I'm probably not going to make it possible to enter the space station (other wise people would stay in there and snipe at those floating about). Well, you do have to enter the spine of the space station to get the fusion but it's an in and out action) The map is encased in push regions so no one can fly too far from the main area of action without being pushed back towards the center and as a bonus, rockets and fusions bounce back and fly around the map till they hit something. I also have some giant musical notes which I'm thinking about having as movers moving about the map.
Here is a screenshot from the movie scene, not my map.

LOL RJ, wouldn't be like you to attempt something 'normal'
Sounds fun Hope the push regions don't all have that nasty loud push noise on them
I have only got to add some lighting and weapons to my map and it is done
Maybe now would be a good time to ask if it is possible to enter 2 maps into RFU4 (hahahahaha... only messing wizzy ) |

Quoting dankone | Quoting mad_ferrit | As far as I am aware, just do not use music events to make looping music or to have more than one song play. If you do want more than one song, it is easier to attatch the songs in Goldwave and add a pause between them. Save this as one wav and add it into an ambient sound |
so, they can hear the music in an ambiant sound right?
also...wav-joiner works for joining wav files, but you have to make them 16bit first, and the free trial will only allow you to join 2 at a time. i just rename the first 2 , then add another, and repeat the steps until i have as many tracks as i want. only doing 2 at a time isnt that bad of a deal. |
or you could just use sound recorder that comes with windows that works great you just click edit then insert file move the slider to the end and edit insert file again untill you got all ur mus in it then save |

Well I think the problem is that while I gave Beat full permissions to the CDC, he still can't add people to the list. Which means I have to do it. Not a problem, just that I haven't gotten to it yet.

Do you just get a subtle whoosh sound like on a noral jump-pad? or are you getting that horrible ear-bleeding grinding vrbrooooooooom noise?
Either way I havn't found a way to eliminate it, but there are certain things you can do to avoid the nasty sound. |

There is a way to not play that sound. I'll have to check my settings in my one map. I think Monster has it right. Make it think its just a push region, not a jump pad and you shouldn't get that ear-bleeding sound. |
