I see no reason why not... If you have IMS'd MrWizard and Beatonator then I am sure they will add you to the list Good to have you on-board!!!
I dont think there are any active RF mappers alive that aren't submitting a map for this |

i think that is great however i am a bit concerned about the ability to test and clear SOO many maps. IMO an RFU map should be some of a mappers BEST work. i know from first hand experience, that even the sickets maps if not THOUROUGHLY tested, and gone over with a fine tooth comb, can be a huge dissapointment.
i really want to welcome ALL new mapper to the project, and wish you all luck in your projects, and state once again that i will be MORE than willing to test maps as well as "honestly" pick through anything i think you as a mapper are capable of fixing. |

Thanks man, I'll besure to take you up on ur offer
TESTING
It is of paramount importance. I think that this time, for this RFU project we need to make sure that a good amount of testing is done. We need to arrange a time whereby as many people as possible can join the server to seek out problems, test for server lag and generally have a quick blast to identify gameplay issues |

I have the pieces of my map basically put together. I'm tinkering with a few things on a big mover (the space station) and need to fit some parts together but it's coming together nicely. |

Dank, I'll have the FTP setup shortly. Actually, the login from the last RFU should still work. I just don't remember what the password is...
Another thing, I've gotten at least 3 more IM's from folks wanting to join in for RFU4. I don't want to exclude anyone, but we're looking at 25 mappers so far. And on top of that, some want to do multiple maps! I wish we had this kind of enthusiasm during the last RFU
So, we'll let in these last few who have messaged me, but we cannot accept anyone else. I hate to do it, but as it stands, the map will be freakin HUGE. If anyone else is interested, please let us know. You may continue to map and we'll put you on a "waiting list" of sorts. If anyone drops out, you'll take their place.
FTP info will come as soon as I have things set up. |

now ur gonna stop letting mappers in... you should let who ever wants to join in because:
A ) The more mappers the better. this is keeping rf alive! telling ppl they cant join might discourage them and they might leave rf. who cares if its a huge pack... if im gonna be d/ling it im gonna leave it on over night so i can d/l about 183.6mb on a weak night cuz i could let it go all night and while im at school or 129.6mb on a weekend cuz i sleep for about 12h i could even let it go for a full 24h and get about 260mb d/l'd and the bigger the pack the more variety and the more fun and i doubt every map is gonna be 10mb.. lets say 5mb per map and 25 mappers thats only 125mb..
B ) Near the end probably half the mappers are gonna drop out anyways like all the other rfu's so the more mappers the more maps there will be after half the mappers drop out |

IAC, if you read my post, we currently have close to if not more than 25 mappers. This is more than we've ever had for any of the RFUs. I would love to include every single person that wants to map. But the simple fact is, we can't have a pack that has 30 maps in it. Why? No one will download them all. We'd have to break it up into 5 or 6 packs, and with the additional music downloads for this one, it would be 10 or 12 packs. The dialup users will have to put a lock on their PC to stop their modems from disconnecting themselves and moving to the Bahamas.
I also said I would have a waiting list. Anyone that drops out will be replaced by someone on the waiting list.
And as noted by others, testing that many maps is rediculous. Ferrit (just an example, not singling him out) is on 56K and he's got to download several revisions of each map for testing.
I don't WANT to exclude ANYONE. I can't very well say everyone's in and then choose who's map gets included. I can however say if you haven't sent me an IMS by 6am GMT, then sorry, you've missed the boat. Stick around for RFU5.
Now, for FTP info. This is an FTP at my workplace, which means download and upload speeds aren't top notch. We currently only have a 384K T1. We also have Comcast Cable, but I can't setup the server on that line yet. I will hopefully be setting up another FTP server soon, with a higher bandwidth, but we have to deal with this for now.

Username and password are case sensitive. Please try to upload and download after 5pm EST or on the weekends. The server is used for other things during business hours, and if traffic is high, I will be forced to close the FTP.
I will let everyone know when the secondary FTP is setup.

RFU = Red Faction Unite.
Any mapper who wants in and maps to the theme and actually tests their map before the release date is in.
If the file size is large then it will have to be split a bit more. As a 56ker I can say it is worth it. It\'s as simple as that and let\'s just be grateful that there is still the enthusiasm for this among the mappers and players alike.
MrWiz is doing a great job trying to juggle all this crap so give him some feedback. You can\'t expect him do do everything for you.
RED FACTION UNITE!!
Edit*
Somebody joining a few days before the release date is a good reason to deny them. Somebody refusing to release their map for testing is a good reason also. Having too many people wanting to map for it? That's a bad reason. A really, really bad reason... It's no good reason at all. |

im on 56k too and i wouldnt mind d/ling a huge file and i rarely get disconnects... and for ppl that do they can just use a d/l manager that supports resume i use DAP and it has resume just incase something goes wrong and i do get disconnected

i think this isnt too good. i think you should change the passwords and usernames, and PM all the new info to the mappers/testers/coordinators. i personally dont want EVERYbody who comes to l4y and stumbles upon this thread having access to the maps prior to release.
maybe im alone feeling this way. you guys tell me.
