If your games play better on a Vista machine - The specs are also better on that machine. |

I wouldn't need to worry about performance for my machine. Intel Core2Duo, 2GB Ram, a 1GB Graphics card. Your set for life!
I would not recommend running Vista on 512MB of RAM.
I think the developers went crazy with the visual effects of vista. To them, they would of thought "Well computer technology is upgrading pretty fast so limitations are endless, lets go wild!". |

Vista needs more hardware performance, thus does not make it gamer-friendly.

As i said before (in another topic) wait till SP1 is out (it should be out in the next couple of days) and then you can upgrade to vista the performance is about 25-30% better
|
in your DREAMS
Do you even know what 25%-30% means?
Or probably those 25%-30% will keep up with what XP already affords. |

Far from "set for life" actually. You're set for the next few years (depending on which C2D you have) probably. |

in your profile it says
"Graphics 256MB ( up to 512MB ) ATi Radeon X1300"
up to? There is no up to for a real graphics card. Either it has the 512MB VRAM or not.
Anyway, a 1GB graphics card is useless if it has no performance for the future. (you will have to upgrade the gpu soon again and the 1GB has been a complete waste)
Find me one single game that requires 1GB, ...no 512MB VRAM. There isn't one. |

"Up to" in the GFX world RF means that the card has the lower amount of RAM on the card and either had the option for more in the factory (and doesn't actually have it on all models) or can pull extra RAM as needed from the system RAM.
My GFX card for example has 256Mb onboard RAM but can use another 768Mb from system RAM. Its not as fast as having all 1Gb on the card itself but its a heckuva lot quicker than not having it and having to swop with the harddrive when the 256Mb runs out. |

I know, thats why I said either it has that VRAM or not
Taking RAM for the graphics card seems to be a poor way because it's too slow.
But a good way to make a weak card with little memory appear to look better than it really is.
(a 256MB video ram is pretty good, though)
and if it was any profitable to graphics cards, then a lot more would take a use of this, or at least let you choose it. |

C2D? and you could always update your computers hardware if you have an up-todate mother board |

That "up to" he's referring to likely implies a hyper memory feature. Some cards let you change a setting to allow it to use system memory as well as its own memory. |
