Garner I took your advice and installed the NEW opera. Finally they have the look I wanted, in other words it looks like the new microsoft Internet Explorer. I didn't like it before because of the HUGE advertisement window that use to hang on the top right hand corner. I've always like the features that Opera had but just not the way the whole browser looked. Before(the version I had looked at/tried) took too much room and left less room for web pages to be displayed. That isn't the case any more, I like this. Now I just have to set it to be my default browser. The only way I'll use IE is if I need to do a windows update.

I know this is offtopic but I just noticed that Opera starts off at the page that you closed it at. Which comes in handy as I have accidently closed the wrong window before and had to do a search for that site that took me a long time to find...If you know what I mean.

you know you can just use history right?, well with firefox anyway, shows the last 20 pages you visited.

But the main thing is your not using IE anymore

Sorry mate, no virus on either my main nor Vista machine. I think you got it from elsewhere. I'd love to hear what your professor has to say though, nothing like a little input.

Btw, you say your computer is hidden, by what? Having a custom proxy done? Bouncing your IP from another location? Just curious as to why you keep saying it's hidden.

This thirsday is looking like a good day to get my professor to reply, he will be replying under my nickname though. BTW did i mention that he is the one teaching my LInux class? i'f not the i just did.. act it the linux admin class, figured if i was leaving windows behind i might as well learn from the from someone who knows

and yes the PC i use for busness does have a custom proxy and i am Bouncing my IP from another location. no dodn't get me wrong if a hacker want he can still find me it just might take longer

Also any one rember that sofware company that acadently shiped out virus infected cd's about two years ago?

One last thing. i do beleave like garner beleaves why should i pay to keep my pc clean. this is why i use all of the free Lagitament programs i can find AVG, & spybot. just to name a few.

Know what i want to know is who in the Hel sites down and says "I want to Phuck up every ones day" and takes four hours to wright a virus or whatever. i sware if i ever track down one of thes punk i'll make them wish that the computer was never invented!!!

back on topic whats the deal with VISTA breaking programs? i'v read that a lot of compines are sewing MS out the wazu over this.

It's more of compatability with the software. Vista will run things fine, but the drivers and updates for games/vid card/etc. are what are having troubles.

oooh Frank I forgot that one.

You can have Opera start up with...

No pages open. Completely blank fresh start.
Your home page only.
Your previous session.

Your previous session is all the tabs you had open. All of them.
Complete with history, ie hitting the back button in one of the tabs will take you back to a page you might have viewed when your PC was last on.

Basically Opera can act as if you never closed it.
Or never turned your PC off.

I had to install a separate spell checker(Aspell-0-50-3-3) for Opera since the google "widget" didn't included it. Google needs to make a tool bar that acts and stays on your browser like it does with Microsoft IE and FireFox. The dictionary still needs a lot of learning. I had to teach it redfaction, levels4you and L4Y.

Ive just recently upgraded my computer to Windows Vista Ultimate x86. Just trying it out my self. Ive heard so many people say its crap and stuff, but I wanted to try it out my self... So here I am, with Windows Vista, and personally, I am not liking it much. Its alrightish, but it has a few things that bug me.

1) Windows blocks almost EVERYTHING with asking your permission to do things.
You install an App, it asks you to allow this program, then it blanks your screen and asks weather to continue... I clicked Allow the first time, why do i need to be asked a second time?

2) There are so much crap in Control Panel! So many ways to change settings in this, and its too crampt! You can change the icon size inside the control panel but it doesnt help because it then becomes too small.

3) Windows detecting programs at startup and blocking them? Then you have to go through the trouble of unblocking them weather you want them to start up. Sure Microsoft are looking after your computers boot speed but that sure doesnt help since the Bootup takes a long time anyways!

4) Upon installation, windows vista installs your sound drivers for you, but not properly. Its best to install your sound drivers, even if they are already working. There are features you miss out on if you don't like Stereo Mix for recording sound stream from your computer.

5) Windows Vista is 8.93 GB. Thats 9,594,027,913 bytes. Why this big? Probley because it has lots of drivers that come with it to install your computer in one go... Thats not exactly good because what happens if Windows Vista installs your drivers, but apparently are the wrong ones or out of date because Vista came on a CD that was made back in 2007... This means you have to dish around the internet to find the updated drivers! What a fuss!

6) Windows Vista comes with a stupid little app that is absolutly crap and is not needed.
Performance Information and Tools
What The Hell? Why do I need Windows Vista to decide weather my computer is great or not? What do they know about performance in computers....?
Check this, I have the ATi Radeon HD 3870 512MB x2. Its a great card and can play Crysis in Very High with no lag or jumps.... Windows Rates 'Gaming Graphics' 5.9... That should be friggin 10.0!
Here is an image of the Rates I recieved...

Crap Huh?

The only thing I have found that I like with vista, is just the visuals. It is a beautiful OS, ill hand Microsoft to that. The rest of it can rot in hell. They should of just updated Windows XP with new visuals but posted a caution that your computer might not be able to handle them.

Its still beautiful tho! Here take a look!

I would just like to note, My computer is not Dell. I do not know why Vista puts that logo there

Vista is an important step forward, whether you know it or not. The biggest improvement I've found is the inclusion of IPv6. You may say "XP can do that too," and yes, it can. The problem lies with the user; most people don't know what IPv6 even is let alone how to enable it in XP.

I don't see how anyone can install Vista on thier main machine. You are just compromising so much: Performance, quite a few applications, etc... and just for a better look?

I do agree with what Assman is saying, but this could easily be done with the upcoming XP SP3.

An operating system doesn't need to look pretty, that's what games are for

As i said before (in another topic) wait till SP1 is out (it should be out in the next couple of days) and then you can upgrade to vista the performance is about 25-30% better and the software compatibility is somewhat better as well

You guys are nerds for complaining that Vista sucks because of a difference in 4 or 5 frames in a game.I like it and i dont see any performance hitches heck some games play even faster on this machine than the xp one.
