Personally I think the feel of Red Faction is much smoother than other games especially ones made around the same time as RF... But lol I have not played many of the new games.. and quite Frankly I am not intrested because I am still happy to play Red Faction.
I was quite offended when Vocea tried telling me that my discovery in RED was years old The one which allows 1way movers to work for people who join late.. But he probably still has not got a clue what I talking about. |

Voeca, thats what you sound like... see how it anoys us when you go around spreading horrible lies about an editor that you obviously know NOTHING about. Maby you know the basics and think they are advanced - and if thats true, i pitty you.
Like stated before, if you think involving scripting makes an editor a "real" editor, your sadly mistaken.
Do us all a favor and acually know the subject before claiming to know everything about it. |

thats not really to do with engine power though.. All of the engines you have now would by far produce a more effective geomod than the possibilities you can see on RED. Geomod is a piece of coding within the engine... not the engine itself.
I love the red faction engine, but if anybody here says it isn't dated then you are seriously fooling yourself. In comparrison to modern engines it is nothing anymore... want to have proof.. fill you level with detailed spheres and see how what crashes first. UED or RED...
I love RF but I think that anybody trying to improve it any further, should really make a mod or do something less taxing. 1.3 had the same intention around 3 years ago when the game was still popular.. and that flopped. You can tell me it didn't.. but open ur browser with 1.3 and tell me how many servers run 1.3?
One thing I would like yo pick fault with though on the statement of RF being an easy editor and therefore you can't be as creative or impressive with it.
I used UED before RED and I found it was pretty easy to use once I had the basic. And I did do some light code editing as well, especially when trying to make an SP mod. However easier this sort of thing may be in RED it does not mean that mapping or modding in RF is a skilless task.
In no matter what engine you use, be it the original doom or the latest unreal build. You will not create anything worth playing if you have no natural creativity. And no matter what engine you use or how much scripting you pile on, your work will still wayne in comparrison with someone who put a bit of heart into it.
I think that RED is dated yes.. but skilless no. In fact I think an editor with less coding can be more difficult to use in some respects. In RED you can't simpley script something new to do exactly what you want, you have to figure out a long way round.
I'm gonna keep mapping whether this project falls flat on its face or not, if rf can't be improved... well it didn't need it anyway. And if RED is a simpler editor than other map editors, such as UED or HAMMER. Well I think that only goes to show that volition put more back into user-friendliness than the other companies, and nothing more. |

I am referee that says now that this unnecessary argumenting of which engine is better must stop. Just because it leads to nowhere. If someone continues it please make another topic.

I feel old.... but more to the point.
This topic can't really go of topic because it didn't really start with one. You have simply said you wanted to post to draw attention to your cdc.
Job done I looked at the cdc and found absolutely nothing there. I have to say that the excuse you had to format and lost everything over eight months is piss poor....
Surely if you had made any major discovery you would have backed it up in the cdc.
And the list so far is less that impressive..
bs about the shotguns hardcoded feature... its been common knoledge since the game came out. If you want to make another weapon of similar properties to the shotgun though you can easily give a weapon a two shot burst on the primary with a firing time gap of 0.01 for example.
Plus the remote for the c4 i'm pretty sure is a tbl flag.. and weapons can geomod so long as they have a geomodable projectile assigned to them as far as I am aware.
And even if i'm wrong about any of those things I can't see how this information can be used to 'improve' Red Faction. To even be remotely impressed I'd like to see something in the thread or your cdc that I don't already know.
The only thing in this whole thread that I have seen to be remotely interesting is Ninjas Synchronised movers, as I havent heard of that before and it sounds like a genuine discovery.
Please for the sake of your project .. tell me something I don't know already? |

And about that data loss, my comp made just blink and I did not manage to restart it again and partition table and mbr were messed then, for reason I don't know. (I suspect that it was over load due thunderstorm). |

Well give us a time scale a rough idea... you can't begin to improve an engine... if you don't tell us what you aim to fix in the first place :S. |

No its absurd.. you need at least some aim... As with a mod you made.
You aimed to create RF for UT... but features and ideas come alog the way through your journey to your ultimate goal.
Looking through the code with no particular idea what you are looking for is boring. laborious and fundamentaly flawed.
If you want to improve Red faction, tell us what needs improving... on the whole what would make red faciton better and how are you going to go about achieving that goal. |
