Yeah well, I have to say that I agree with those who are angry about stealing their intellectual property.
What comes to mac combatility I hope that HAPA HANU tells howoto make mac compabtile too.
I do not accept plagiarizm of my or other's maps for any reason. |

To translate into a whole bunch of languages:
English:
Any unauthorized reproduction, editing, or publishing of any Red Faction user-made maps is punishable by catapult.
French:
N'importe quelle reproduction non autorisée, éditant, ou éditant de n'importe quelle faction rouge utilisateur-faite des cartes est punissable par la catapulte.
Spanish:

He's claiming WOC2 was "defective" and needed fixing by adding some brushes and making it a CTF map "by RED FROG and TBmule"? Howmany thousands of players over tens of thousands of hours have been spent on World of Cubes 2? There's no ciritcal defect that needed fixing. Animator is claiming that DM-MERRYCHRISTMAS was defective and that TBmule "fixed" it by adding some decals and flags and then releasing it as a CTF map "by Madcat, RED JUSTICE and TBmule"? That map has been out for more than a year and I've never received a technical complaint about it.
Anyone who compares the maps (original and TBmule version) will see that TBmule is a parasite. He takes the work of others, makes a few cosmetic changes, and then releases the map as a co-creation of his and whoever made it originally. He's not fixing anything. He's stealing the work of others and passing it off as his own.
It takes a LOT of effort to conceive, design, build and test a map. Any idiot with a little experince with RED could open someone else's map, throw in some decals on the walls and claim it as his own creation.
My maps are not public domain. Some people love them. Some people don't. If you don't, then don't play them. If you think you can do better, THEM MAKE YOUR OWN FRIGGIN MAP! |
I stand by you 100%. Whether or not you like the changes, Animator, don't change the fact that no permission was given and the property was stolen. Most map makers don't play Red Faction anymore? Fine, but why didn't Mule contact the ones that do? It's all stolen no matter what words you put it in. |

First off I think we should all understand that once something is put on the internet it is basically a free for all. A common practice these days, if a disclaimer is posted, runs to the effect of;
"Contents of this web site were collected from various sources, if you are the creator of any of this content and do not wish for it to be here contact me and it will be removed."
It is the flip side of the way things used to be. There was a time when people sought permission to use materials. But now, there are billions of people and billions of web sites and the lines of ownership are totally blurred. It is now the responsibility of a creator to stedfastly monitor the world wide web for his/her own content and make sure it is not pilfered.
RED JUSTICE, we can forgive TBMule and I can demonstrate how. Follow me on this example - it is like fishing. First it starts off with a rudimentary fishing pole and a couple ordinary hooks, perhaps even a bobber. Soon the fisher must aquire lures and fancy test lines. Then the rod and reel need upgrading. Next a cabin on the lake has to be bought and then a pontoon. But the pontoon just does not cut it anymore, gotta sell the house to get a proper trolling boat equipped with depth finder, fish tracking and stealth rigging. Before you know it the fisher is using explosives to get his quarry!
TBMule fell down a slippery slope just like the fisherman. He saw that he could do something and kept on going. His intentions were... I guess... OK, but, taking liberties is definately a no-no.
I forgave Sophie for ripping off my crappy forum marker Red Faction heads. I wasn't angry or anything, but I was surprised and humoured.

Yes FuryThor I have shared this information before and I can do it again. 
MAC Red Faction uses: AIFF IMA 4:1 sound format
There is a technicality tho. Each map has to be individually checked to make sure the sound works. For some arbitrary reason each map requires a specific sample rate to work properly. If the sample rate is wrong; either the custom sound wont play or it will mute out other sounds in the game.   
So I can make my offer again. If anyone has a map they are working on and it has custom sounds. Send me the entire map and I can add .aiff sounds to it for the MAC players among us. I can offer a 36 hour turn around.  |

Not true legally, but in practice yes.

Which is what I've done. When I noticed the map that had been stolen, I looked around to see if there were other examples.

No. Unlike Sophie (who apologized and then belatedly asked permission), TBmule hasn't tried to remedy the situation. The first step to forgiveness is for one to accept responsibility for the bad act. Rather than say, "sorry, I got carried away when I discovered that I could do this" we have received an entirely different response through his proxy Animator.
Animator has claimed that these maps NEEDED to be FIXED by TBmule....that all he did was fix glitches and make them work for Macs. This is demonstrably false. Therefore, giving him the benefit of the doubt that he had good intentions is misguided. He wasn't doing the community a favor like you did. He was being a parasite and assumed that he would never get caught because so many people have left the game. |

TBmule has the honesty to name the original authors. When he says CTF-Merry christmas has been made" by Madcat, RED JUSTICE and TBmule", he just doesn't forget anybody. He didn't specify what the contribution of each mapper was. It's not like he had claimed the work was entirely his. You could be flattered that the map has been deemed worth being remade. What could he do. He wanted a CTF-merry christmas but he couldn't credit only you for a map you never decided to make, Red Justice, a CTF version of Merry christmas and he probably doesn't know how to contact you. He did what he considered the most honest thing to do, crediting all those who participated in the map even thou his contribution was small. I admit he didn't fix the map thou.

What do you call " to receive a technical complaint"? Do we have to send it by mail. To me, "some parts of the map you can see through other brushes. and at some parts you can fall off the map" sounds like a technical complaint. So you actually did receive a technical complaint about DM-Merry christmas.

He could make his own map. If I thought that my favorite book would be better if the story ended differently, would it be legitimate for me to change the last chapter and then submit it as a novel by RED JUSTICE and FRANK HERBERT? Of course not. I should write my own book not be a parasite off the creative energy of someone else.

The see through brush was DELIBERATE. I wanted the fusion room to be visable from a certain part of the map. This actually makes my underlying point. Someone could decide that they are doing the original author a favor by "fixing" something that the author INTENDED to be that way. There is no place on the map where you can fall off.

I've played the map with hundreds of people and it has run on dozens of servers. No player nor server has ever brought a problem to my attention, pulled the map from rotation because of technical problems, nor ever posted anything on a forum noting such a problem.
A technical complaint is a notation of a critical problem with the map: This map crashes, this map crashes if too much geo is used, the sound files don't load right, the door triggers don't work, etc. In point of fact, the door trigger on TBmule's version of my map leading to the fusion area doesn't work right (the timing is too short and players can get trapped inside the room). This worked fine in the original.
An artisitic criticism is a notation of a cosmetic critique of the map: I don't like that you can see through abrush, I wish there were more atmospheric sounds, I don't like the textures. These are opinions on the map, not notations of technical problems that need fixing.

RED, believe it or not I am on yer side.
At this point, TBMule may be reluctant to come forward in any manner. His altered maps have been removed and he has earned the scorn of our community. He is definately painted into a corner.
By suggesting we should share forgiveness, I wanted to offer TBMule a way out. So he could come forward, admit his guilt and help us remove his altered maps from world wide circulation and rotation. |

Great a Union Lawyer, that is almost as bad as a Union Representative.
Can you tell that we have a lousy union where I work and since our former governor(Grey Davis) made it where every state employee has to pay their "fair share" to the union, even if they are not in the union. Our union does nothing...I mean nothing. Which is believe it or not, less than they use to do. Oh just in case you are wondering, I freely joined the union and because of it. I get free access to you, the union lawyer.
