Quoting NoClanFrank | OK my bad for not checking the dates on the .rfl to see if they were the same as the original ones. Then again, TBmule didn't say anything about him only adding a AIFF file to the .vpp. If he had, I would have considered replacing the original one with the MAC friendly version. |
Animator is simply lying here. TBmule didn't simply make mac friendly versions of the maps.
Hapa Hanu made mac friendly versions of the maps. He did this in such a way as to honor the original map by leaving the RFL untouched and simply adding a mac sound file. In doing so, he created something new which is backwards compatable with the original versions of the maps. For this, Hapa deserves high praise.
TBmule on the other hand ALTERED the RFL file and then claimed the map as his/her co-creation. For example, he took the map DM-MERRYCHRISTMAS by myself and SWA Madcat, moved a couple brushes, added some decals and flags, and then released it as CTF-MERRYXMAS.
Animator is lying and anyone who takes 10 seconds to check the maps will see that. |

I have another dumb question. What do you guys feel about levels being remove from the site because the mapper forgot to put in the level's name and the authors name on the level properties box. I was playing on a server tonight when it switched to this map:
DM - Fall Factor!
But guess what, I did the foolish mistake of installing this map:
DM - Fall Factor
Which is the file in question.
When a server starts a game and a player tries to join all he will see on the map list is "No Level Name" for the file needed. Which means unless he/she(the server) knows the players trying to join, the players will never know what level they need to download and install from the name shown in the map list on the server browser.
In this case, I think it would be a good idea to get in contact with the author and fix the level properties box but it would also mean that the newer file would not be compatible with the older, which many might not have ever played because of the way it was submitted.
What are your thoughts, should I do it or not. |

I might add, I wouldn't change the authors name, I would just add it to the .rfl file so it can be seen when you first join a server.

Which bring me to ask you a question RED_JUSTICE...
Has he fixed your levels to be MAC friendly and if so, do you want me to replace the current ones. The reviews would stay and the downloads wouldn't change but I would add a note stating that they were now mac friendly. I know I know what people are thinking, an RJ with added sound file. Good grief how big can the file size get.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
This is something I have discussed with Hapa Hanu before this thread was even started.
I might also add that I've modified some maps on my hard drive that I didn't care for the music. If I had to replace the music file so it wouldn't crash, I would replace it with a blank sound file. You know for those annoying looping sound maps. |

Tripple post.
Quoting molodiets | Could we expect a return of the link to Redtechs among the affiliates now.
Wasn't that the reason why he asked it to be removed?
Maybe that should be asked to Trigger? |
No he asked the link to be removed because he didn't agree with the thread which included his new map to be closed. He didn't realize that I had been doing that for a while. You know, closing the older thread when newer levels get posted. It just makes sense and it also prevent members from posting on an older thread and confusing the members thinking that they are new level when they see it again in the hot topics page. Most of us hardly ever look at the date the thread was created so I know what I am talking about...I think. |

I actually would be fine with that but adding the additional sound filedoes increase the file size. Maybe the file listing could contain two links (regular and mac friendly)? They are both compatable with each other so it wouldn't cause play problems but the majority of people who use PCs wouldn't have to download those extra MBs. |

That was the other thing we talked about. He thought and I agree that we could also add a link to where the MAC friendly levels are located for certain files. He seems to have a lot of time in his hands for a Machinist. |

I'm kinda of the mind that this should be treated as a damaged file. If someone uploads a corrupted version of their map, you don't post it. A file that doesn't contain this critical information is broken IMO. |

That is my opinion as well. In the past I have deleted a couple of files from this site. This was done a while ago when I was doing some house keeping...well web site cleaning. |

L M A O ! Good Gravy - I am not that type of Machinist!
I do Wire EDM to .00005"/.001mm (Not adventures in weirdness...)
Yes it is true, since December I was extremely busy.
As time goes on and as things continue to be resolved I will have more time to devote to SCIENCE!
I am fully prepared to upload individual files and share the links with Frank so that he can add them to the map descriptions for us MAC abusers users. However, FileFront seems to be completely crippled. I cannot modify or adjust my uploaded files or directories. I can't even upload anything - its down!
Frank please do - trim the files here at L4Y. There are some maps which are defective - can't recollect any titles off hand tho.
Also, there are some maps here that are so poorly made that it boggles my mind just to contemplate why they were created! I mean there are some levels that are so feeble in design that they are a burden to spawn in... |
I have suffered in real life for the past couple years, now its your turn! |

I stand by my statement. Animator has made claims. Those claims are simple to check. Those claims are false. That makes him a liar.
He's claiming WOC2 was "defective" and needed fixing by adding some brushes and making it a CTF map "by RED FROG and TBmule"? Howmany thousands of players over tens of thousands of hours have been spent on World of Cubes 2? There's no ciritcal defect that needed fixing. Animator is claiming that DM-MERRYCHRISTMAS was defective and that TBmule "fixed" it by adding some decals and flags and then releasing it as a CTF map "by Madcat, RED JUSTICE and TBmule"? That map has been out for more than a year and I've never received a technical complaint about it.
Anyone who compares the maps (original and TBmule version) will see that TBmule is a parasite. He takes the work of others, makes a few cosmetic changes, and then releases the map as a co-creation of his and whoever made it originally. He's not fixing anything. He's stealing the work of others and passing it off as his own.
It takes a LOT of effort to conceive, design, build and test a map. Any idiot with a little experince with RED could open someone else's map, throw in some decals on the walls and claim it as his own creation.
My maps are not public domain. Some people love them. Some people don't. If you don't, then don't play them. If you think you can do better, THEM MAKE YOUR OWN FRIGGIN MAP! |
