People (TBmule in this case), make your own friggin maps. Other than with the defaults, it's not appropriate to open someone else's map, change a few things and then submit it to RF sites as a collaboration between you and the mapmaker. If you want to make another version of someone's map, then ASK them. If you don't know how to find them, then make your own friggin map.

Whenever someone has ASKED me if they could use things from my maps, I have ALWAYS said yes. However, slapping a few flags and textures onto someone's DM map doesn't mean that you get to submit it to the map sites as a CTF version of that map.

Sorry for this.
But I have never made a CTF map and the only place the original author got credit was inside the map.

LOL, I said EXCEPT for the defaults. The default maps are common property of the game there for everyone to tinker with.

I'm talking about a situation where for example I might take NC-SRONGHOLD, throw in some flags, and then release it as CTF-STRONGHOLD by RED JUSTICE and NC Frank. Who am I to remake one of your maps without your permission?

I stumbled across a cache of such maps where some clown had done this (to one of mine and many from other people). Hence the rant.

Sigh, just checked and some of those maps have even infected L4U. Just search for TBmule as the "author" and you'll find them (REDFROG, Jan Radt, Furyweb, and others have had their maps hijacked by this git). I guess it is up to each mapmaker to police their own works. I know that I never gave him permission to alter my maps and am glad to see that none of those has been posted here yet (though one is posted on another RF map site).

I've seen the maps that you have mentioned.
If at any time a author has a problem with that happening. All they need to do is send me a PM or post something about it here and I will quickly remove said file from the site. BTW you link doesn't work any more, since I wasn't the person who did the original search.
As far as DM-NC-Strong Hold. I have been asked to make it a CTF level and I have considered it. I just can't seem to fire up RED any more. I like playing the game more than mapping.
If I would redo it, I would add some pilars in the rooms and other stuff to help protect the enemies that are trying to capture your flag.

Make your own friggin map.

There is no doubt about it. If you open RED Editor it better be your own creation. I am weary of seeing other peoples work tweaked with some slight spin and declaring it a new masterpiece.
I have suffered in real life for the past couple years, now its your turn!

OMG! You won't do that whereas you can do it with one of my maps (which are far better).

Imagine a CTF-NC-STRONGHOLD by RED JUSTICE. The same map but a file twenty times as big as the original.
that would suck.

Yeah, imagine that. Imagine if somebody did that to a level but kept the original authors name it in, world that still be wrong.

I think we've all opened other maps to try and figure out how people did things. That's all good.

What this person did was open other people's maps, add in a few things and then submitted it as their own co-creation.

If someone did that to one of my maps without permission I'd want their guts for garters!

Your maps are your intellectual property, so someone cannot just add a bit here and there without your permission. Everyone opens maps to see how they were made, its part of the learning process. But ripping off a map is something else.

IMO remakes of popular maps are perfectly fine. Then again, I consider a remake to be started from scratch. Like, it I liked someone's map enough to where I'd want my own version, I'd see no harm in reproducing it from scratch. Opening it up, however, and getting the exact measurements would be copying, and that's just as bad as changing an original and calling it yours.

Edit: Looking over TBmule's map collection it seems to me like all of those should be removed (unless he/she has approval of the author).

I did that. remade a persons map. but i put in the discription that some of the map was created by such'n such. the map was a total remake with nothing being original any more.

Hmmm... if you totally remake a map and use exactly the same brush and object placements... is it the same map?

If someone remade one of my maps wiothout asking, I would be flattered and annoyed at the same time. Its like they are saying you had a good idea but you didn't do a good job of it
Although that's probably true of many maps... like mine for example lol.

This reminds me of a few years back where some guy had maps hosted on his site (including some of mine) and he was charging people when they downloaded them. He claimed they were paying for the bandwidth but it sure seemed like they were paying for the maps and we weren't getting a slice of the action lol.

WOW you are in trouble now. I just did what you asked. I was debating posting them when they first starting showing up and since I had not heard any complaints I left them but now the members have spoken and they have been remove from the site:

Proof

Trust me there are a couple of maps that I wouldn't mine re-doing, well by redoing I mean adding WEAPONS, ARMOR and place the spawn points elsewhere. But I wouldn't do that...or would I?

Delightful. In addition, Redfactionview.net has removed TBmule's version of my map at my request. Mappers may want to check over there for plagiarized versions of their work.
