Actually, if someone has Full T1, they have a constant 1.5Mb/s downstream & 1.5Mb/s upstream.... And if someone has T1, they would have 3Mb/s down & around 1.5Mb/s up! So anyone with Full T1, T1, or above?! |

OK, this is what i think we should do, because i hate talking and talking and not making things clear at all for everybody:
Server Name: Volition vs L4Y (1 and 2 if we make multiple)
things we need to decide ...
Password?
Whos hosting?
What gametype?
What Maps? Where to get them?
Do we make Multiple servers? and with what on it?
Last but not least, who gets to play if we only have one server ?
we have been talking fo about 5 days or so and really haven't decided one thing completely.
... it would be nice if a dictator would just step in right now. (don't like having to argue/talk with people to figure things out) i just want a descision, somebodys gotta step up and give some orders soon. |

There is your dictator. Now, getting to business, the Password(s) will be PM'd to users via L4Y PMS.
Hosting is what we are trying to figure out if someone has a Full T1 line or above. Gametypes we can't decide.
What maps, we cant decide.
Yes, we make multiple servers.
We will have multiple servers, so no need to decide that. |

NO! that's stupid! CENSORED ! have you not been listening to what me and NCF have been talking about, i mean if you don't like these items (that add a bit of fun to the game) then buy another (not as good) game, no game will ever beat RF (IMO)
to conclude, never ban HMG, or amps from any servers, any servers that i see with that running, i immediately leave and never join again. |

YEAH! HMG,s and amps should not be banned!
I think gametype should be TDM and CTF
If someone has a T1 connection or higher make 2 servers?!
One TDM and one CTF. |

Nah, I think we would be safer to go with 2 different hosts.. |

Nublets...
It is obvious that at this rate, nothing will be done. As such, I propose to do as follows:
We create a set of servers (at least one DM and one CTF), named Volition Vs L4Y <identification number>. Ex: "Volition Vs L4Y 1", or to cut space, "Vol Vs L4Y 1".
We use nothing but standard maps (we have to give the Volition crew a break, and not expect them to be familiar with the custom maps).
There shouldn't be a password, but the RCON should be passed around to the prominant members of L4Y and to all Volition staff. Any modders and Volition instantly has their IP. That equals one less noob, permanently (just ban the IP from the GT. Of course first check if static or dynamic IP was used by modder).
Nothing should be banned. RF was designed like it was for a reason. If you can't work with HMG and Amps, you need a skill booster. It seriously isn't difficult to compensate for the ultra-slight advantage an Amp gives you, and the HMG is so inaccurate I'm surprised anyone hits anything. Also, rejecting Volition's creations is like telling God to his face that you don't like the Canadians. Just because they're annoying and stuff doesn't mean you should hate them. Same with HMG/Amp.
We need a dsl/cable connection, at least 700KBps, or something like T1 (like Pred's, although is comp wouldn't be fast enough). If people tell the truth when they brag about their connections, over half of L4Y should have this type of connection.
We need a fast computer. I'd recommend at least a 2.2 GHz computer, with at least 256 MB RAM and a very decent video card (128 MB?). Sure, the video card does little for processing the game, but newer computers have special drivers to hook the video card into the processing of programs. RF might not have been designed during that era, but somewhere someone must have written the code to enable RF to take advantage of this. For those who don't know what this process is called, its called Hyperthreading (at least the way I understand HT).
All people are invited to play and have fun. We'll find a way to make do, possibly using some excess L4Y members as "Volition" members. Technically, with the skill a lot of L4Y members have in developing RF, there is practically no difference in the credentials (sure, Volition made RF, but L4Y modded it into what it is today. We are all part of this giant entity known as RF, and as most L4Y members develop for RF, we are even more of a part of RF). This is especially true of the creator of Microfaction (why must I forget his name?) and REDFROG, designer of many mods, skins, and HUDs. Thus, in the future, we might have a Public Vs Developers (Developers = Volition and L4Y folks, as well as a lot of RedTech folks). |

"his name", would happen to be wrecks.... How could you forget! The mapping master, I bow to you! lol
Anyway, I tell the truth of my connection, DSL @ 1.5Mb/s downstream and 256Kb/s upstream.... So.. I sure can't. I can only hold 12 with no issues. I haven't tried hosting more. |

No we definately need customs. The default maps are way over played and I'm shure most people are board of them after about 4 years of playing them. |

I can't wait till we get a weekend game going. Good luck to everyone who plays wednesday. Personally I would suggest using all default maps. Then after that I would go to a mixture. |

You already have people organising this so let them do it. There's no need to keep suggesting maps, servers and players. Just let them get on with it.
Vidi44, thanks for keeping it short this time.
I mean seriously I know I can bang on a bit but at least I always have a point.
You have something to say? Then say it, just stop posting forty poorly constructed paragraphs of complete garbage along with it.
There's a saying that goes "If you have nothing to say, don't say anything."
It doesn't go "If you have nothing to say, write an essay about how you were once off sick from school but you weren't really but by some uninteresting series of events you were officially off school, even though you weren't, but the powers that be (bastards that they are, said you were off school, when you weren't) so it's on your permanent record that you were off school even though you weren't, but you were really and it was the schools fault."
Just SHUT THE HELL UP!
I don't mean to be rude but seriously, get a grip.
Just one suggestion for the people organising this : As there's so many people on the L4Y side wanting to be involved you should take people's contributions to the community over the years into account.
I mean in goes Frank, WRECKS, D2K, Trigger and the like and out goes all the rest. Choose the people who've given their time, talents and money to the community over the years. Mappers, modders and servers.
Makes sense to me. |
