Okay. Let's get this game set up. With the number of people on both sides that have expressed interest, I suggest that we might have two separate games going on. I have roughly 16 V people who are interested. Actual turnout will be slightly less once we decide on a date. I'm going to leave this in the community's hands to find out who on your end will play. Here is what I'd like. I'm not trying to make demands, but rather would like to simply try and get some specifics down so that we aren't talking about these things all week

1) I'm going to propose next Wednesday at 8pm CST.

2) Two servers since we have so many people. Two games of 12-16 people would probably work. One CTF and perhaps one deathmatch (or maybe two CTF - that's our favorite). If we run two servers, one could potentially be hosted here, and the other by someone else from the L4Y community.

3) Agree on time and any sets of custom maps by this Friday if possible so that we can download the maps here. People here need to get the game installed again and we'll have to get custom maps copied over.

4) One person on L4Y as the point person that I can communicate with via email.

I think that's it. I'll post internally that we are shooting for 8pm next Wednesday. We can decide on other specific rules early next week. We tend to like our games pretty pure so extending to custom maps is already a stretch for us :-)

At any rate, we are looking forward to this potentially happening. I will monitor this thread, but if whomever is decided in (4) can PM me, I will get in contact with them via email.

What's the "(4)" for? Is that the number of folks who can sign up, or what? Wed at 9 pm would mean I couldn't make it (why do I hear Handel's "Hallelujah Chorus" coming from the direction of Volition HQ? (rofl, that was almost a passable joke)). We should schedule more of these things, and to make your superiors like the idea, you can host demos of Volition games and have folks test them out. Spiffy marketing all while debugging and having fun (although debugging is, in its own right, fun; so folks demented like me would have double the fun of others).

So, Volition likes CTF? No wonder the best maps are CTF (ownage is good, design well, and run-time geo-mods add even more fun). AoW is great too.

Why am I discussing as though I'll be in? If I can make it, I'll go, but if not, I won't. So, giving me the password is a 50/50 chance of getting an extra person in. That being said, put me on the list and take me off only if it interferes with another player's addition.

If you guys come up with a custom map list then I can create a map pack and upload it to some other site like file front. But if you read carefully to what V-Allender stated:

I think they rather play default level. I think they want to have the upper hand, since they might know of some secrets that we don't.
I personally don't like CTF as much but would be willing to play in this "Historic" event.

Just Did a yahoo search and found this:
Time Zone Converter

so 8 CST is 9 for me so I should be good to play for a few hours.

I agree on the 1 DM and 1 CTF. Definately not 2 CTF. I dislike CTF.

For a DM map I nominate this 1

[edit]

grr my posts still are appearint in the wrong spot... it should be right after sobe's post 990

I think with that many people a huge city map would be cool. City-War maybe .

So, CST = GMT? CST -6 = GMT -6. And therefor 8PM -6 = 2PM GMT -6?! I am confusing myself... Someone please help me with this!

Just use the time zone converter in my last post to see what time 8CST is for you. 8CST = 8+6 GMT so 8PM CST = 2AM GMT

[edit] lol we all seam to be traveling back 6 hours according to the our post time...

Yes, except I am -6, not +6... So that would be 2PM... or is there something I am missing!

maybe some WoC maps?

why don't we nominate a couple more and then make a poll for which ones we like most, then we can take the best 10 or so ...

ummm, hows about, if its okay with Garner, then can the L4Y server host a game? it would be better, that way no one person would be boged down hosting a server while everyone else is playing lag-free..

If we can find a couple of servers that are adequate pings for all parties (or at least most -- and more specifically us ;-) j/k), then we don't have to host here.

hmmm okay, sounds good, so are you saying that volition can host a server?

anyway, lets start talking maps. i vote RF Manor BY: mad_ferrit & Lots-a-pot.

and, lets get some really good custom maps, let volition and THQ know what we can do with their editor

no offense volition, but the maps people are coming out now, are hundreds of times more complex and better than the defaults. nevertheless the defaults still do for a good fast frag game. i do like the default "The Art Of War" (i believe its CTF05) because it it very fun to play on, you get close combat areas around the bases, and sniping places around the middle, so i suggest that this be one of the CTF maps.

oh, and if you need to contact me, either PM me here, or email to gooberCP@gmail.com
