you can get Vehicles to spawn, AND be seen by clients. me and Trigger used to mess around with stuff alot. Unfortunatly you cant get in the vehicles. its the same as Bots the coding hasnt been done for MP unfortunatly.  |
I wonder if anyone who is experienced enough would be able to code it. Would make RF much better. | it sould be too hard. and even still you could fool the player ito thanking it a moving vehicles. say for example in the player would get in the driver's seat the vehicleswould drive it self on a pre ditermend corse. and yes the player would be alloed to use his weapons while this is happaning. |

What about making a wide long map with sniper spots and put a jeep in the middle of the level and spawn all players in every sniper spot.When someone gets into the jeep the jeep should drive through the pre-routed course and the dude using the jeep gun will have to kill all the snipers and survive to get the invulnerebility,damege amp,super armour and health,and the fusion wich is on the other side of the map.Good idea for a DM and TDM to bad i am not good at making maps or mods. |

Only way to get Vehicles into RF is the same way Kungkrille did it. Make a mod which changes the characters into Cars. change the 1st person HUD into a CENSORED pit view. It was good fun. Sooo wanted to make a Twisted Metal Black mod |

That is not the only way.
There is some way, you only need the knowedgle and the sofware (probably the software volition used) to edit the code.
There were so many things planned to be in Red Faction but they had to drop them..I think because of the lack of time.
You'll find some pieces of ideas and features when you browse the table or vpp files.
Vehicles for multiplayer just werent needed/planned when they made the game/maps. I have seen some lines in RF.exe with some multiplayer and singleplayer text. But I can't modify it.
But thats an endless story...it was all talked on Iron Suns Forum
Anyway, Red Factions ground vehicles suck to be honest.
What I'd like is a assault-like map with a convoi that has to be defended by a team until it arrives it's target zone, and the other team attacks. The trucks are controlled by AI (waypoints)

and as for moving object's in multi... like i said, fool the player, i know from playing custom map that it's not all that hard to add a moveing entity in MP. here is a custom map with a STAR WARS TIE FIGHTER THAT YOU CAN RIDE

i can help with textures, sounds and maps for single and tbl's but mot models. have you started a cdc yet? but i really think we should all just email volition with sugestions and nagging them until they make it with alot of our sugestions and a compleetly different game way and plot but with the RF1 characters. and make it for PS2/3 and XBox and #60 but not gaycube |

Moveable objects never been a problem in RF. Controlable vehicles have. A keyframed mesh isn't the same as a vehicle that is actually searching it's way to it's target.
Also, keyframed stuff will get out of sync. |

i never said the vehicles had to be Controlable. just as long as the play can hitch a ride.

I want aliens,mutated bugs,and new cool enemies that say more that just "say your prayers miner" in RF3 mod.If you meet da aliens they will say earthling your fate and planets fate is doomed surrender or else and they shoot you. |

Sounds good. Needs a bigger variety of weapons, easier levels editor and !!MULTI PLAYER INCLUSIVE!! Also there shoulds me a more interactive environment including more than just hitting switches and driving vehicles. Volition and THQ did a fantastic job on RF1 espicially with Geo-mod with the limited technologies they had at the time. RF2 was OK and had a pretty solid plot, but lacked somthing that I can't describe. ONE MORE THING: Whoever decides to get this thind going should get everyone to pitch in with not only their ideas, but with perhaps maps - multi and single. This way we'll be sure to get in this mod what everyone's looking for. Also some of the better multi maps uploaded on the site should be used a default maps for the mod. |

Skilled C++'er, eh? Well, I do know some people, but they don't have the time or money (since they'd need money to eat with and we can't pay them) to do this professionally. Might I suggest we scour the coding forums for professional, yet out-of-work (and thus willing to do anything) programmers?
Rob Bennent is a genius with Visual C++ (his website is www.uselesscreations.com), but he has never done much more than screensaver work. For something like this, we need someone with actual hard-coding skill.
Lord Hallington (his professional name) is a genius with C++, but he has 0 time to do anything (his personal projects are already 2 years behind). However, he may be willing to consult us from time to time. I did e-mail him to ask him for help. I'll post his reply here.
I do dabble in C++, but I'm no where near the level needed for anything worthwhile. At the best, I could do very limited consult work (I'm practically a n00b with C++, and it keeps getting worse each day (it's been nearly a year since I touched a compiler), as I do almost nothing with it).

The google results page I checked for (just search for "C++ forum") resulted in the above links (I'm not going to post all possibilities, C++ is a very popular and powerful language, and there are too many forums to ask).
The biggest problem, however, is that we don't have the actual source code. Granted, you could use VPBuilder32 and extract the .vpp files, however this isn't the source. This is compiled code that is suitable for only modifying. Without the modules and class listings (assuming RF was done OOP-style, for clarity at least), you're still guessing about what works how. Anything we write would only be a shell extension of the RF engine. With the editor, this thing could get off the ground. All we'd need to do is allow the most common graphics and weapons, etc mods as defaults into the editor, to speed up the process. After that, optimize the code and write a proper help file with actual help (the default help file is completely useless. Ever read its help on nav/way points? Let alone AI scripting). It stands a chance, but barely. |
