Extracting default textures only to have them repackaged as custom textures is a huge waste of time and effort, not to mention an unbelievable strain on file size. Assuming I use a good chunk of those textures, that could be +10MB of files someone would have to download despite already having them. Think of it like a patch, when downloading you don't download the files you already have, just the ones that have been changed.  |

First, congrats for your release TrotSkie, even if I only did a quick test, Pure Faction run nicely, but I have 2 major complain about! Notice that I’m 100% pro Pure Faction and I want every RF player use it and my reply goal is purely constructive and also hope that L4Y community will continue on this.

I talk few time that Xmod realy care of Anti-Cheat and pack the file with it including shortcut and mod cmd. I'm very septic about the true impact vs the big 64mb texture pack with your nice tiny 2mb of your application. The file size is higher than my own mod… It protects many default texture levels, custom doesn’t included in this, some mod also don’t use the same skin. Do you count to add a bunch of texture for every update that will eventually be very weight Anti-Cheat? (pure1.vpp, 2, 3…) You probably already tried to find another way to block this kind of cheats, but we can also lost some people with the long download time?
I’m not a programmer, but I have a suggestion that maybe we can think of;
The server host that run your application and just have to browse is own installation directory and even mod file to set it up! You will tell me, it doesn’t work, because Pure Faction will not be the same in each server and will maybe not have the needed file to be secure because the host can choose to mess it… But bad server or bad server…, player can notice that and can find another one than prone clean anti-cheat. Best of this, is clean customization will be even more effective than the heavy texture pack that miss many texture, the check will be done on the exact file host! More optimized and better efficacy! If Pure Faction stay like it work at the moment... Can it be possible to Keep your auto updater on for your application file but not for .vpp to let me customize my .vpp check to be smaller? 
1- I don't know how Pure Faction compare is .vpp file vs client, but if is only the size check, can it be done by a txt file, log are something else to remove the heavy weight texture pack?

Client player need to have a quick Multiplayer Shortcut
I don’t know if you do this to ensure that client application is up to date before launching it, if yes, I think is a big sacrifice for less, update will probably not (every often), and server will notice the player when joining the server… User will not have to right cmd each time they want to play different things.

The launcher is for more reasons that that.
Our new XFire patch will log your hours in RF (PF), Allow friends to see the server you're in, and make XFire In-Game chat work in RF.
Morgoth - The Pure1.vpp is there for a reason... It can't be changed at the current time.
I have an idea of how it can be stopped... I've explained it to Trot. It might work, might not, but i won't be discussing it here |

More than likely it is because you are really infected with the virus, you need to do I full scan of your system and clean everything including the restore file if you have one.
I don't think it is the pure faction file itself being falsly seen as a virus. I think the file got infected from your system because you already had the virus. |

So far I think pure faction is comming along pretty good I think. The main target should be to make the servers use Pure Faction. |

I don't have time to answer all questions. But compsman, are you running a current version of McAfee with up to date definitions? Mcafee will be trying to simulate running Pure Faction, and Pure Faction does not like things like that (it tries to throw programs which are trying to work out what its doing off). Anyone else having similar problems with mcafee - if so trying updating your definitions and program to the latest version. |

Lol my motherboard went all weird on me....come back to RF with out knowing about the release of it......But now i do when the server wouldn't let me play just cause i dint have it running The server should give a link to the download to this because if i was a new person to RF i probably wouldn't know where to go to download PureFaction
But pure going to be good once i get my new 8800gt as now iam running a 6100gt cause of my old motherboard going on me etc |

Well... I tested on a spare machine with fresh WInXP Pro 32-bit install and several antiviruses and so far not one has any issues.
A/V's tested:
Nod32 2.7
KasperSky 7
McAfee 2008
Norton 2008
All virus definitions updated to latest available. I'll test on Avast! and AVG as they are free later. Unless anyone else wants to report on them  |
