:: crosses fingers ::

That would be mighty wonderful if Nvidia could help.

BTW, I shortened up the http address and made it a link in the previous two posts. It was warping the manner in which this board is displayed.
I have suffered in real life for the past couple years, now its your turn!

Ok I tried 158.18 same results in game play. Still garbled and levels all mixed. I've tried all the nw releases since april to no avail. If you would like I would love to send you a copy of RF. It is an old game but actually pretty good. I've read some posts where others are having the same problem.levels4u.com (L4Y Red Faction)

Ok , I uninstalled in safe mod. I tried the 64 bit and 32 bit x86.
The 64 bit wouldn't install due to different O/S.
This is the message for the x86 (32)
The Nvidia setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatable with your current hardware. setup will exit.
I am not running sli and also am running a quad 6600 with 4 gig of OCZ 8500.

I tried to install Forceware 160.02.
They refused to install, saying that Its the wrong O/S. I reinstalled 158.

Still garbled in RF

I play Red faction, I have had this problem since I installed the 8800. The game is all broken and garbled. There must have been a miscommunication, my problem was never solved. Please help.
Although all my other problems were fixed and I thank you all, RF is still broke (cries).

8800 GTS 640mb is a costly little (big card really) bugger isnt it.

Even though I dont play RF, I'll be checking this topic since Im about to start using the same vid card. A solution im thinking is doing what NoClandFrank mentioned on page one regarding an older version of I guess the game. Also, what brand is the card? For example, the one I have is from EVGA.

I would guess that the drivers for the 8800 cards are handling TGA files differently then older cards thus making this effect.....

No, it shouldnt matter what the card is. image files are software based and not hardware. (to a point that is)

Brandnames really only tell you about the reliabiltiy of the card (like if the card doesn't work at all sometimes, has a tendancy to die, etc ... If two different brands both have a matching 8800 chipset, the only difference is the reliability of the brandname and their design of the board Itself) The little things like this would probably be a problem with the chipset if its a hardware problem ...

of course i could be wrong ... this is what ive always assumed from experience about graphics cards and their chipsets ... correct me if anybody has seen two differen't brandnames produce two cards with the same chipset but have different results like this ...

Hmm, why would the latest drivers overlook something like rendering TGA textures correctly?

maybe you should install Descent 3 or something else that uses a TGA texture system to test this theory ...

We should probably keep in mind that RF's engine is truely unique compared to most games today ...

I have gotten problems with the textures in RF looking weird before so it was just something that got to my mind

But this looks more like a 3D rendering problem then a texture problem...

I might get myself a 8800 card later this month so i can se this problem in action

Branded cards mean almost everything during your purchase. For instance, XFX brand offers a double lifetime warranty, for you, and it also covers whoever you sell it to. The only downside to XFX, is they don't replace if overclocked, etc. With eVGA, you get a lifetime warranty that covers overclocking, etc. eVGA also has excellent customer support and a great program called the Step-Up Program where within 90days of purchase on your card, you can upgrade to a better card, at only the difference of cost.

Anyway, just build a cheap machine for $140 of the prices I put on NewEgg and you can have yourself an older gaming machine that will run RF perfectly fine.

Maybe not quite $130, but nothing over $300, really. Its never a bad idea to have more than one computer in a household, means more fun for all.

UT04 runs perfectly fine on tested eVGA brand 8600GTS, 8800GTS 320MB, 8800GTS 640MB, 8800GTX, and 8800 Ultra.

At least in my experience they all ran fine with the game. Only trouble I had with any of the above mentioned cards, would have to be Red Faction, and earlier drivers had slight issues in CounterStrike Source.
