PopularScience bought a Wii and cracked it open to see what makes it tick...kinda interesting....
http://popsci.typepad.com/popsci/2006/11/wii_broke_it.html
Rear view of the cooling fan and A/V, power and USB ports

Optical drive and Mobo

One of two Wi-Fi antennas at the back of the console, mounted vertically

IBM "Broadway" processor(left) and the ATI "Hollywood" graphics chip(right)

A closer look at the two...

The whole disassembled mess...

I just realized, they never included the controller autopsy, that was supposed to be the best part!
Your thoughts?
Gonna buy a Wii?
Gonna buy a PS3?
Too cheap to buy either?
(I fit into the latter catagory) |

Yeah...BTW...PopSci DISASSEMBLED the Wii, they did not wastefully buy one, just to break it.
I was hoping for a more insightful conversation like...
"They shoudn't have used an IBM processor"
OR
"An ATI "Hollywood" graphics card?, CENSORED is that w34k CENSORED "...
Aw...do as you will.... |

True, I do think that the wii is kind of weak in the hardware department, but I'll bet it will make up in the variety of games that will be offered.
But as for me, consols are not of my concern. I'm waiting to see the next big polygon crunchers of the PC hardware world. Quadro Plex anyone? Or a more practical solution: the GeForce 8 series |

I suppose we better make this intelligent.....
I'll be getting one as well. Remember, it dosent have to play dvds, record video, do my laundry, and feed my cat to be fun. Have you see nthe trailers for Red Steel? THATS why i wanna get one.
Plus, i can play duck hunt in SUPER high res! |

Actually, Red Steel is currently rated a 5.5 out of 10.... That changed my insight a bit on the game. The graphics are more of a Classic Doom |
