Ouch... sounds like they cut corners to make it a launch title. |

Quoting Schuy01 | So they adapted an infra red sensor to control pitch and yaw. Yawn. |
Quoting Wikipedia | The Wii Remote is a one-handed controller that uses a combination of accelerometers and infrared detection (in conjunction with the sensor bar) to sense its position in 3D space. This allows users to control the game using physical gestures as well as traditional button presses. The controller connects to the Wii console using Bluetooth, and features force feedback, 4KB non-volatile memory[52] and an internal speaker. The controller can connect to other devices through a proprietary port at the base of the controller. Perhaps the most important of these is the Nunchuk unit, which features an accelerometer and a traditional analog stick with two trigger buttons. |
The Gamegube contollers will still be compatible, so if you are in to the whole "only a certain amount of buttons" thing then its got that too.
And are you stating that the whole laser pointer thing is boring? I realise that it isint exactly THAT great a feat, but they are the first to incorperate it. Just because the xBox and PS3 can process terraflops of graphics data dont mean they are any different than before. If you always have the same button configurations then how is it any different then having the origonal console? I see no purpose of having a PS3 if i already got a PS2. They are basically the same (and dont go on all that "its got tons more processing power!" crap, i already told you that it dosent matter.) consoles. But the whole laser pointer idea is new, and adds a new dimension to gameplay. Can you swordfight on a PS3? Didnt think so. And last time i played xBox it took two control sticks just to aim properly.
Thats half my rant. If you want to get me started i will, but this isnt the place to do so. We should instead be talking about system specs.
I dont need good graphics to have good gameplay. If i had Legend of Zelda, a Link to the Past in ultra 3d it would still be the same exact game. And as long as the games that are developed are designed to go fluently with the current processor then i'm pleased.
Oh, and that quadroplex looks insane. I wonder who would ever use that? |

If I want sword fightin, I'll go LARP'n. lol j/k
But hey, I know its new, and different. But a keyboard and mouse is all I need.
Totally agree with you on the 'graphics don't make the game'. I haven't seen one next-gen game on either of the other consoles (ps3 or xbox360) that looks innovative.
Quadro Plex is for graphic developement companies. Its one giant block of pure graphic processing power. Its designed to be used in a wide array, server-like set up. I'm sure 3d concept artists, professional cg effect developers, etc would be the main targets for such a machine. And at roughly 20 grand a piece, I don't think any single, sane person would buy one. |

I'm looking around here, and its got a 512mb flash drive. Thats more then i expected it to have. Who really needs to save that much game data? And besides, deleting old save games will make you play it again! Double the fun!
And on the whole DVD thing, looks like there will be a later version capable with DVD playback. Which might be cool, figuring each Wii controller has a built in speaker. |

Is that a mono sound speaker? Like its just part of the general sound environment? Or is it a special channel that has things in the game environment, close to the player, sound louder; like a surrond sound channel? |

I'll put it this way: You shoot an arrow. The sound starts from the controller and moves to the front channel, to make it sound like you are actually shooting the arrow.
It also has Force Feedback, and the like. Theres TONS of little features in the controller, so look it up. I bet Wikipedia has plenty on that. |

Quoting sobe | Actually, Red Steel is currently rated a 5.5 out of 10.... That changed my insight a bit on the game. The graphics are more of a Classic Doom |
And here i was thinking you were above generalistic comments like that.
Red Steel graphics are rather stunning and the only let-down of the game is its controls. |

Not true, I got to play it earlier today at a Best Buy
The graphics may not be as I stated from a "Classic Doom", but they don't fall far from it honestly. I'd say more like a "high-end" arcade game graphics.
The controls are just fine, I had no issues with those, they were fun actually

Gamespot is for some reason really biased against Nintendo
http://au.wii.ign.com/articles/746/746975p1.html While IGN isnt that much better at least they arnt comparing it to PS3 and X360 games (The Wii was not intended to compete with the 360 and PS3, hence the lack of power and multimedia.) |

Its old, and the caption changes every time i see it. However, it is exactly true. Many other innovations were stolen from Nintendo, which were at first sckeptical. 4 players at once was a Nintendo Achievement, and there were people who comlained that it would slow down the game, bee too confusig, ect. Now all the consoles have 4 players, and i think that they also had the first wireless controllers.
Soon enough xBox and PS3 will have controllers like the Wii's, and the general populace will think Microsoft and Sony are innovative and origonal. These factors will keep this stupid "console war" going until the end of time. |

Great example.
After Nintendo releases info about their controller Sony state that Motion sensing will be nothing more then a cheap gimmick.
E3 2006 comes along and all of a sudden Sony have motion sensing and are claiming that they had it in the works for some time.
So either they stole the idea or they had a "cheap gimmick" planned for their console. |

Quoting LordSeafood | Ill be buying Wii
For those interested in sales

|
You have to realize though, the PS3 sales are that low because that's all America has recieved so far, the console sold out essentially. Nintendo brought a ton more consoles in for launch however.
For those of you saying that Sony stole the Wii's controller, whine more. I'm not a fanboy and even though the following may seem like a fanboy statement all I'm doing is defending the PS3 right now. The SIXAXIS controller is more an idea stolen from 3rd party controllers for the PC and certain consoles than the Wii. For one thing I like the way the Wiimote handles simply like a laser pointer, you just point and click on what you want to do, whereas the SIXAXIS seems like a very watered down version of it in the sense that it's not essential to gameplay at all, simply just an addon which they proclaimed as this big deal after the huge, pre-release support for the Wiimote as a form of competition. It's all PR (public relations) and jargon like that.
Granted, Sony didn't have to make this such a big deal, but they did and the SIXAXIS's tilt control seems to be no big deal to me. Actually it's kind of stupid...would you rather use an analog stick to steer the car or twist your arms in all directions? I prefer the stick.
With all this whining about how Sony stole the Wiimote's idea and giant enemy crabs (lol for internet memes) people are missing some of the finer points of the PS3 such as the ability to install games to the system's internal HDD in order to decrease load times and to not have to worry about the disc getting lost/stolen. I will not be getting a PS3 anytime soon though because of my money situation (in college, can't afford it...)
As for the Wii, if I had the spare money, hell yes I'd buy it. It's a very cool innovation to gaming in the current day and age. I just wish the in-store demos at various stores had the Wiimote out so I could test play something |
