I couldnt help but notice that with every new set of maps that get uploaded it tends to be 3 or 4 from the same person who took one map and just kept changing the name of it or changing the wepons. Is there not any creativity out in RED Land anymore? Bad use of concept, bad lighting, wep placement, and texture. Or is it just me? Can we plz stop with the 4 or 5 versions of the same crappy maps? What ever happened to the RED Masters that produced the best maps ever seen by this community? |

I know how you feel radviper_rf. How do you think I feel when I see them in the upload page. Even the no music and with music files of the same level bug me. But those I understand why it was done. I think those "Hosers" might consider just doing one file with a much smaller music file in it than two separate ones. Lets face it not everybody likes music on their levels. The authors can always have different music files on their PCs than the ones they submit. I for instance constantly change the music that other authors put in their maps. One of said files is currently in a map pack. I didn't actually change the music but more like changed the length of it. |

He's right. I must admit good mappers are getting scarce. Nowadays i tend to come across a big deal of crap in the update. I don't talk about DVL's 2 versions of the same map (Those maps are globally good and the reason they upload 2 versions is valid) but the proportion of correct maps seems smaller than it used to be. Looks like only noob mappers are left. Those who masters the editor don't map anylonger.
I just wonder why there are so many people who suddenly decide to map, 6 years after the game's release, considering they didn't find any interest in it before? |

It's taking forever for me to finish up my map right now. Well its not that I can't finish it, it's actually because I can never find any time. |

I agree 100%. If you're going to make a map, PUT SOME TIME AND EFFORT INTO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hate when people make maps, and release them with different items and a different name. There is creativity left in the RF community, but it takes time, lots of time to make a map perfect and release it. I take forever to release maps, but they are good...
...Not trying to sound egotistical or anything, but I've noticed the longer it takes someone to make a map, the better. Usually. |

I don't believe anyone is ever going to call you that
Your still quite far away from being a RED master. |

Never ever release your first map... that's rule #1!!!
Instead use the first map to gain experience in the editor and learn how to build and texture and place items and lighting correctly before you embark on a release.
I doubt you're gonna listen to that advice but you should... Because if you'd spent the same amount of time on the 37,497,234 maps as you had done on maybe just 7 or 8 quality, carefully planned and carefully built maps you might be held in the dategory of Mapping God, but as you stated yourself you're not. And you wonder why?
If you do this with UT you'll get the same name, in fact you wont get a name at all, because the UT community is larger and there's a fair few professional standard mappers out there for it. How do you expect your (first) map to fair?
So Goober if you want to achieve success, it's quality not quantity...
OK? |

I know, and its not my first map. Its about my 6th.. ive used differnt themes, most of my first maps were just a little bit of fun with me and a few friends
Im working on my 9th map now, which i plan to release
When i said 'Releasing my first map..." i ment releasing the first map im going to release, as confusing as that is... |

You mean the first map you're going to submit?

why? I released my first map. but I do have to admit I did gain a little experience before releasing. man, talking about this gives me some enthusiasm to get back to working on the map I'm planning on releasing. |

My first map was pretty darn blowful. Fortunately L4Y wasn't afflicted with it lol. My second and third maps were also less than spectacular.
It is tough though. You get new people coming into the game and they want to make maps which is fair enough, but whatever they produce will have to go up against maps made by people who have been doing it a lot longer. They often get reviewed according to the standard we expect from experienced mappers which is a bit unfair.
I kind of wish reviews were completely anonymous and that the author's name of a map was not given for maybe a week after it had been submitted. That way you could review without bias... except eveyone brags about what map they're working on lol. |
