I feel bad for you goober, you are so young and already in need of Viagra. The worst part about is that you have it shipped to "your friend" in New Zealand only to have it shipped back to you at home. |

Quoting goober | LOL NICE One Killad! I gotta try that.... sucscribe for like 5 months worth of Viagra and sent it to Ghfjkdfk Hjklsdfh At 123 Fake St. Hgjgfj, New Zealand |
Why does everyone use 123 Fake St!?! Why not be origional and make a new address like 321 Imaginary Av.
Everytime my freinds go to a fast food place they always fill in the suggestions card with Dave Longhauser "made up" from 123 Fake St.
... i think it would be funnier if you put someones actual name and address. (preferably someone you dislike ) |

try going to control panel, administrative tools then go services. u will find a list of service type programs, find the 1 called messenger(aka services.exe) and were it says automatic change it to diabled. fixes any problems with windows geting stuff from the net and also stops those enoying messages saying your compy has registry problems and spyware and it saying it's F**KED. also do the same to routing and remote access(aka svchost.exe)
these 2 programs that run in the backround are the worst things u can posibily run on any compy |

GRRR!
You need to read more on what svchost.exe does and why you might reconsider keeping it on.
BTW if you want to find out what task are going on, all you need to do is type in:
cmd /k Tasklist /SVC
in the run menu or whatever it's called.
You know:
1. Click the "Windows key"
2. Click "Run" from the start menu
3. Type "cmd /k Tasklist /SVC"
BOOOM! You get the black window with the information on it.
I don't know why Microsoft always posts the long way to do it on their web pages.
Then again there is always the "Ctrl+Alt+Delete" method to find out what processes are going on. |

Two more scanners I think are fairly good are Spy Sweeper and A-Squared. Both found things that all the others didn't.
Its interesting now that Zone Alarm shows the Generic Host Process to be running but not doing much. Before it said it was listening to several ports.
Netstat run from the MS-DOS prompt also gives some interesting details on what addresses your PC is looking at. From that I discovered it was constantly trying to download windows updates even though I had that had auto update turned off. That can also be fixed in the Administration/Services control panel. |

I use Spy Sweeper that I got free from work. I get free updates until the end of 2008. That's how long their contract is good for. I use to get McAfee for as well but now they give us Sophos, which is why I changed anti-virus programs.
Spy Sweeper use to be free to all employees and students, well at least I think it was free. Now when I go to the web site, I can't download it directly. It says that I need to email administration to get the download link. LOL It's a good thing I saved a copy of it with the serial number.
There is a lesson to be learn here:
Always back-up/write down serial keys for future use.

Well is looks like all my hard work has paid off. My connection is now dead quiet when I'm not doing anything. I wonder how much bandwidth that stupid windows update was chewing up. |

What do you Aussies get charged for bandwidth usage?
Over here, there is no real limit as to how much bandwidth we can use per month or per year, unless you rent web site space. |

yea, we pay like 20$/month no matter if we use the net 1 minute in that month, or every second... |

i suppose it depends if you live in Sydney and get illimited broadband or if you live in the far outback like Kiliad and get... a 56k (even illimited that wouldn't make much bandwith) |

No Kiliad told me he can now get DSL but he might be moving soon.
Hopefully when he does we can see how well he does without high high ping advantage. |

That is correct.
If I get BB now and then move house, I'll have to pay a sizeable fee for the connection to be moved. |

Well I'm stuck in a one year contract with Verizon DSL. If I cancel them before the year is up. I have to pay them 150 dollars. It's bad enough I just switched from Verizon Wireless to NexTel wireless and had to pay them 175 dollars. In the end, it's cheaper for me with Nextel since I am only paying 14 dollars a month but it still hurts that I had to pay an early cancellation fee.
I am currently debating and try cable broadband again. The only reason I switched was because some of my friends were complaining of the ping they were getting and their ping was lower with DSL. But that wasn't always the case. Nitro tells me that they probably already fixed the problem, but I won't know until I try. |
