I thought you said RFU1 was Giants? I haven't downloaded any of them because I'm too poor to afford broadband (wouldn't help if I was a millionare, it isn't offered around here anyway). See, what ruined me from understanding is the lack of a space after "giant themed RFU?". That's the second time my improper reading has made me look retarded. I need to get my eyes checked.

Ya it is, you could get satellite highspeed... Thats available pretty much everywhere... Or you could move to Canada and get a wireless high speed connection. It's available anywhere in Canada and you can get up to a 5mb/3mb connection.

What if I happened to live in Canada, but couldn't afford the wireless access card? That'd pretty much ruin your idea, if I couldn't afford to access it. See, note the "poor" in the post, even if it was available, I couldn't afford it. So, leave me to my delusions of grandeur. If you want to see something sad, imagine me pretending dialup is broadband, pretty sad there.

you have to be pretty damn good to create full cities with realistic like details.. but somebody should make a map like that.. with triggered explosions, so if your interacting with a part of the building it will crumble to the ground..

Well I don't post alot but have to add my thoughts on this one. I personally would like to see an RFU5 map pack and the winter theme really intrigues me I know how frustrating it was for the mappers whom were involved in RFU4 but I enjoyed the map pack as I know many others did even in light of some of the issues. I have strayed away from RF and started to play some CSS and B2 as I have been getting bored but the BAW(***Dedicated Server does have some RFU4 maps in the rotation.

I would ask that all the mappers rethink thier position on this and hopefully decide to get involved and build some quality maps that will make all of us proud and help keep the RF community alive and spirited. C'mon Ferrit, You Can Do it! You Can Do It All Night Long!!!

Or you can just make tall box shaped buildings and put building textures on them and add a few details. Then its total destruction to the max

you wouldn't be able to afford an extra $10 a month? I think we used to pay $19.99 a month for dial up and the cheapest package for wireless is $29.99 a month...

anyway back to RFU5 topic.

I don't think the maps in a giant theme would have very good gameplay because no matter where u were in the map you'd be able to see the other players because you'd be giant and bigger then all the buildings so there'd be nowhere to hide...

I actually have a draft of such a map that I abandoned......because in practice, it's not great gameplay (as the players are giant, you can see everyone and it's more like playing in an obstacle course. I'm sure someone could do it better but when I got about 50% done I realized that it just wouldn't be that great and put my energy into other maps.

You know, the buildings don't have to be smaller than the player. Giants can still be dwarfed by buildings. Just make it so that if you jump, you can see over the building (barely), and everything should be ok. Other than that, just have the players crouch or something (push region?).

If I had enough time, I could probably make a map of my house (mostly box-like rooms and little details aside from random clutter that I wouldn't want in anyway). But, I'm lazy and have 12 other projects, so it's just an idea others can use. That might make a great RFU5, except you'd have to have a way for people who don't want their names on the map wouldn't have to put them on (just use "anonymous". I'd probably use this, because some people on here (you know who you are!) live nearby my house (ie same school), and if I wanted them to know what my house was like, I'd invite them in (but I won't)).

Hmmm. I'm pretty sure IAC, that I've pointed out to you before, along with a few other people, that satellite isn't really suitible for gamers.

Satellite broadband is great for buisnesses because it allows you to transfer large files at high speed.

For home users it's great too. As long as you don't want to surf the web or play games online or anything. There are serious latency issues with satellite broadband that really make it unsuitable for gaming.

On satellite you probably wouldn't be that much worse off than 56k but you'd be paying a whole hell of a lot more.

Heh, we pay £15.99 per month for dial-up... with AOL.

Tiscali broadband is £14.99 per month (Probably 256kbps, but I'm not too sure) or we could get AOL Silver (UP TO 512kbps) for £17.99 per month...

It's just my dad, he doesn't "approve" of it..

Back to RFU, I think it would help the community a great deal if we did another one.. and I would want to submit something this time round, after pulling out of the last one due to a lack of inspiration...
Back in RF... getting back into the swing of things!
