Quoting NoClanFrank | Dude don't take this the wrong way, but what the hell are you on...
All you had to do is read my previous post Post 1322 / 1330 above and you would have the answer you are seeking. Also when using dB Power Amp Music Converter to convert Mp3s to .wav try using a 8 bit(mono) setting and the music files will be much smaller and still sound good in RED FACTION! |
No, thats wrong, I use Golden Wave. converting to 8 bit (mono) pulls the sound quality away. Therefore there is a way to make Wav files the same size as MP3 files with GOOD QUALITY, just like I posted on my last post 33/35 if you READ it properly. |

Like 11 bit. In the long wrong it doesn't matter since I would probably change the music to my liking and I still prefer to use the program I mentioned above over gold weave.
To shorten/fade songs I now use a wave editor that comes with nero-burner. |

You can do all that in Golden Wave << should spell it correctly .
Changing it to 11bit still cuts quality and i tried it the other day with 11bit. A mp3 file that is 3mins 47secs at 320k quality converted to a wav with 11bit as u stated goes to 10.6mb's.
Now, i tried this aswell for a test. I got the same mp3 file i used to do ur test at 11bit. this file was 4365kb's thats rougly 4.2mb's. I renamed the file and instead of .mp3 on the end, i typed .wav instead. the computer promted me about changing the format... I stuck the file into a VPP file and a map that uses the song.
HEY Presto! it works!
There you go, thats one way to convert a file to wav, without the trouble.
BUT, theres a slight catch to this proceedure.
Doing this to some mp3 files doesn't work for some strange reason.
I do not know why this happens, but it seems that Red Faction will only accept SOME sound files converted in this way. |

How to get small .WAV files in Red Faction and have a high quality sound!
Program used : dBpowerAMP Music Converter
Download that program, and set it up. When you have it installed, run it. Duh.
You should have a box come up telling you to browse for and specify which files you would like to convert which looks like this :

Click on the song(s) you would like to convert, (use CTRL+LeftClick to choose multiple files) in my case, I will convert "01 you Held The World In Your Arms Tonight". This is a 192KBit song and comes in at a medium sized 4.62MB.
Click Open.
Next, you should have a screen which looks like this :
.
If you are not on something like this, with the codec options near the top, then click the drop down box at the top, and select Wave.
As you can see, I have the setting "Compressed" Selected. This is what you want.
The next step is to change the format/codec of the file. To do this, we click "Change Format".
The settings which I find work best are these :

You can edit the settings, but it's ideal you stick to the ones that I chose as these give a pretty nice size. When you are done, click OK.
Next you must choose a folder to save the converted file to... I am going to choose "Same Folder as Original". This means that the .WAV will appear in my "My Music" folder. You can specify your own folder if you like . When you have done this, ignore the bottom few settings, and click "Convert >>". Watch the progress bar

Dum de dum...
And the results ARE IN!!

As you can see, the filesize is roughly 1/2'ed, and there is only a little quality loss which shouldn't be noticed when you're running around in an RF map getting your hoser butt fragged off

Jesus, I hope nobody else has posted while I've been making this.. took my approx. 20-30 minutes |

Of course I don't mind If it helps share the knowledge and helps people create better maps, then I'm happy. |
