It was standard Hollywood action with a bit of an edge... I liked it!

I've never really liked Tom Cruise, but his two recent Spielberg movies I've liked (that is Minority Report and War of the Worlds)... there was some discrepancies, but remember when you have an undertaking this enormous, there's bound to be some. The only thing I didn't like was when they sprayed the blood for fertilizer, when Dakota Fanning ran outside and they got picked up by the Tri, the background/everything else just reeked of being built in a studio.

The CGI was well done. Spielberg made a wise choice not making this the center of the movie, instead he added it to the side sort-of, so it fit into the story well and blended very seamlessly. Well done, I hope to see more directors take this approach!

Haven`t seen it myself yet but I think I can wait til the DVD Release.

Apparently there`s a British film company working on a version that`s supposed to be as close as possible to the book.
But judging by the cast lin-up the casting budget is something like £3.99. So that`s the entire cast of Coronation St, Eastenders, Emmerdale, The Chuckle Brothers and Billie Piper with hubby.

it looks cool but ... if it has the same ending as the origonal(<--thats not the right spelling) it probably is kinda cheesy, i think the aliens would of thought about that (trying not to give away old version ending).

My Psychiatrist advised me NOT to see movies like that; you know, movies with Tom Cruise in them! hehe- Actually I plan on seeing it soon.

I thought the movie was great. Knowing how the movie ends is not a spoiler. Was a bit troubled by Cruise not having a pocket full of solinodes? Jumbo jet misses van, news crew finds way cleared? Uncanny!

The ending is conform to the novel indeed. The begining is really frightening.
The middle is more into symbolic thou.

well of course it's gonna be the same! what would be the point of making a movie based on the 70's record version(which is based on the story from the 1800's) and then make a completely different ending?wouldn't really make sense. it'd be taking away from the greatness.that'd be like telling a story about 911 but at the end , u said that the terrorists had be slayed but it was too late to repair the damage and the plane could not be repaired or that there were no terrorists and some geek had just forgot to repair something before take off. my point is that War Of The Worlds has been embedded in history and ppl will know it for a long time because iour parents heard it from our grandparents who lived thru the era.we either heard it from our parents or heard the audio version or we read the book or we saw the mini series.if the story changes down the line then the whole concept is pointless.....IMO anyways

Exactly! Except the movie wasn't based on 70's audio version it was based on the late 1800's book.

Well if kind of cool one but i have seen better ones, the action scenes are great but the ending, if kind of stupid, 1.000 years studing earth n they are going to die like that, just for me doesnt make sense.

But i liked it

Its stated at the beginning (I think) mankind has died by the millions as it evolved with its environment but it has made mankind stronger.

Perhaps the invaders came from a more benign environment?

Who knows what are own terra-farming attempts might unleash?

The film explored a number of different themes that were moving in the way only great sci-fi can do. Spielberg intimacy with the genre and the holocaust make this film truly terrifying at times.

I thought the Tim Robbins part could have been more creepy after he talks to the girl, kept expecting poison koolaid and dead followers to be uncovered or worse? Been awhile since I read the book, but there was a crazy tunnel guy? Maybe Speilberg didn't want the Robbins character to be too unsympathetic, I mean killing the guy was a moral dilemna and unnecessary.

The kamikaze references were also brill!
