I'm afraid it will be one of those over-americanised action movies instead of sticking close to the actual story.

I've seen the original movie from 1953, although that wasn't close to the original story either, it was nothing like the action packed trailers you're seeing for the 2005 release at the moment. The 1953 movie was actually quite entertaining

It would be great if this movie would stick close to the book, because the book is a great read!

I haven't seen it yet either, but from what others have said, it breaks down into this..

Nice Sunny Day when the aliens come to call...then its Run Tom Cruise Run! and then some more Run Tom Cruise Run...and just when you think they're going to fight back, its more Run Tom Cruise Run! And then I'm told it finishes up with a pretty crappy ending.

However, like I said, I haven't seen it yet, and I do still plan on seeing it today or tomorrow, so when I do, I'll revise my little review.

Agreed, the book is probably better. I havent seen the movie myself and yes it'll be overdone. Half the plotline will have to be sacrificed due to the timeframe, the other half because it takes place in America, not Europe (at least I think thats where the book took place).

American screenwriters need to get their act together and do it right. Look how well LotR came out by sticking to the story

I like the soundtrack from the musical!

I haven't seen it yet either, but considering how Cruise improved Mission Impossible am expecting the worst.

Still the previews make it look almost as good as Half Life 2.

H G Wells was never my cup of tea - Michael Moor CENSORED did the steampunk thing soooo much better *LOL*

Saw it yesterday, standard Hollywood action movie. I did like the look of the alien craft and the aliens themselves. I would give it 2 stars at best.

Man I dunno bout you guys, but I LOVED this movie. I liked the 1950's version as well, but this one was sooo great! It actually scared me, a movie hasn't done that in a VERY long time. I can't beleive a PG-13 movie scared me!

LOVED IT!!!!

Classic Sci-fi films are among my very favorites. War of the Worlds, It Came from Outer Space, Forbidden Planet, First Men in the Moon, The Time Machine, etc. just hit somethjing in the core of me. [anyone play microfaction redux?? lol]

Spielberg has stayed amazingly true to HG Wells vision while also bringing it into our contemporary fear ridden society. Acting, Visual Effects, Sound Design, Cinematography all Top Notch! One of Spielberg's best and easily one of my favorite films this year, if not ever.

i agree with wrecks!the thing was amazing!I hate that kids now adays don't even know what the heck war of the worlds is and they dunno about the story behind it!although it didn't follow the story line EXACTLY it kept to the roots pretty darn well IMO. Fav part(apart from the entire movie) would be the first attack sceneanyone who saw it would know.

and Ticco i know what u mean. Scared me too. was like i was in the movie along side with that annoying kid.
