Quoting goober | Quoting MrWizard | If you good folks will give me a few days, I'll help organize and I'll map too.
Once the RFU4 map pack is released, give me like 2 days of rest and relaxation, and then I'll jump in head first.... |
thx
I think the 12 brush limit is a tad harsh. Maybe if you have an unlimited brush limit, but just a small area to work in, say 30x30x30 or something...
|
I agree with that. 12 brushes, it's too small. Impose a limit of time, not a limit of brushes. It's two easy to merge several brushes to make one. And it would be harmfull to the map (fusing cause an increase of faces)
As for the leader, Goober got the idea. He must lead. No other choice. |

no offense to goober but i dont think he knows what he wants, nor does he have the experience to run something like this.
it may have been his idea but (no aoffense again) i think we need some one that has some experience in life and experience in running soemthing like this, to run it. |
We will be known by the tracks we leave behind |

He will learn while doing.
The things he won't rule will be left to the choice of mappers.
It's not such a big project.
Just a few rules, a CDC and our MSN adresses to pass the maps on.
Solutions to possible problems will come from sensible discussions on the forum. |

Well Goober didn't exactly invent the whole concept.
Someone over at Redtech thought of the idea first. But I think L4Y should do it, too, as it would bring the community together.

Well its been over a week since the last post....is this project gonna get rolling or what? If you don't want me to help organize, fine with me. Less stress my way. I'll still map though.

I kinda lost this topic, and din't know the name of the topic anymore.
Yes goober tell us is this still going trough, and what is the idea going to be it sounds like, you want every body to make a level in 30x30x30 and fuse those levels together. thats how i understand it. kinda like what they have done on RedTech. |

We discussed about it via PMs.

So what is your idea? = to have differnt aspects of many mappers in 1 project
How many maps. = im thinking about 8-10
How many requested mappers. = whoeer wants to help
How many mappers working on each map. = about maby 10
Is a theme imposed? = probably just every mapper do your best, it will probably be themed differntly for each map(ie. like maby a mars map, a administrative complex etc...)
Is there a deadline? = havent set one yet
How will we send the bluenotes (maps) to each other? = e-mail
Are there other limitations? = im not sure yet
you do whatever you want with in about a 50X50X50 area and sure you can start that if you want, my email is 123chris@warp.nfld.net
|
I've started my map. |

There was a RedTech #2.
It was a Blue team and a Red team, 1 map for each team... however Our team kind of lost it somewhere down the line. Don't know what happened to the maps, but if you ask me the other team (led by Trigger) was one of the FINEST maps I have EVER played. it was incredible. |
Trying to find old players. Anyone about? Drop me a PM or reply to this thread:

Sounds like a cool idea... however the rules need to be clear and comprehensive. Everyone must work together and not compete against eachother, otherwise it will be a disaster.
Brush limit is pointless If you were to pass the map to Sorrow then you`d find she`s just added 45,000 faces to the map with 12 brushes That is why a Face Limit is much more faesible. Only when the exact number of mappers have been defined can a face limit be proposed. If there are 10 mappers then I`d suggest a face limit per mapper of no more than 600 faces. A brush and clutter / object limit will also be needed, someone adding 600 face brushes for a laugh could just ruin it
There are a few jobs that need to be considered. Who will be responsible for portalling the map, adding respawns and pick-ups, overall lighting? Lots to consider.
I think the best way to deal with it would be to have a good mapper who takes and checks the map after each addition, adding portals etc where required.
The easiest type of map to make would be a selection of interlinking rooms... where each mapper makes a room, limited in size. |

I think you have an obsession with faces
There are far more important aspects in making levels in RED than the number of faces or brushes. |
A common mistake people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools. |

The only thing I think of is how nice it would be if all this time and effort had been spent on a game with a real good editor, like UT or Doom 3 |
Then we would have to spend all our time learning to use those editors and it's really not an easy task.
If somebody is interrested in a joint map pack for another game, he can post here i presume. |
