Painkillers, the lifesavers of max payne.
They are medical drugs, right.
Max uses them all the time, right.
But, why dont max die when he uses them?
AHEM. example
Max is almost dead. He uses 5 painkillers.
Max takes another critical shot. 2 painkillers
Max falls almost to death. 5 painkillers.
How he suppose to be alive when he takes 12 painkillers AKA Medical drugs?
DRUGS!

I think you're missing the issue.
Max gets shot in the head and he takes some pain-killers and keeps going...
Hmm...
There's something wrong with that...
Max gets shot in the head five times... more pain-killers!
Yeah, pain-killers do not heal wounds! |

Max was given a lethal overdose of V in MP1. Max must have great DNA?

What would you rather it was realistic and one shot killed you.
Fair enough but that would be boring as hell.
Look at the getaway it was kinda cool not having medi kits or anything BUT it was a right pain in the arse leaning against a wall for 5 mins everytime some nob head shot u  |

Well it's the same with other games... you get shot somewhere i.e. your head, and all you have to do is walk over a first aid kit and your ready to go again... 
But if it was realistic, everytime you got shot, you would have to go to a hospital to get the bullet(s) removed and then wait a couple of weeks for the wound to heal over  |

Y'know what would actually be cool though, is a fighting game without a health bar. Where you can kick the other guy in the leg and break it so he limps the rest of the match. Or when you get punched int he head a bunch everything gets all blurry. And your character can get scars and stuff. And you can skip ahead to when you've fully healed, but it would like cost money or something so if you didn't have the money you would have to fight while injured. That'd be cool. |

Most games have this "issue" of unreality. Look at Chronicles of Rid CENSORED where Rid CENSORED is running around in a tank-top surviving all kinds of weapon fire. Now some games will include bullet proof vests or armour so the idea of the main character taking and surviving weapons fire is a little more plausable. But even a bullet wound to a non vital area can still kill you, Max Payne should have bled to death on a number of occasions. Still if you died from one or two shots in game well you'd get tired of the game real quick.
An improvement would be to have both main character and A.I. hide behind stuff and pop out and shoot as oppose to just having everybody run out into the open guns a blazing (a.k.a. Deathmatch).
As for the painkillers, well I just accepted that as part of the spoofiness of the game. It's suppose to be comical. |

Yep ironshirt your right.
Games are always going to be games IE unrealistic.
Games will have some sences of realism in them but they will never be 100% lifelike - it would be too boring. |
