Roger, what happened to the Michael J. Fox link? I thought you supported it... and it was the only "adult" thing on the site.

Also.. this looks strangely like the original site setup. To be brutally honest with you, it appears to be a reversion.

I'm disappointed, I thought the "new" site was going to be better than the "old" site. It isn't.

There's hardly anything the same as the old setups aside from some colours. And what do you find worse on this site in comparison with the old one?

IMO.. putting all of the linkable content on the left pane is a step backwards.

Mark.. Roger went from that, to the last site which was IMO pretty dang good, back to this.

I think this version looks rudimentary compared to the very professional site before. The last site was a step up from the one before it, and the one before it a step up from the one before it.....

This one, to me, is a step back.

The last layout was way too busy, there were 2 navbars and too much links to find exactly what you were looking for, now everything is nice and easy to navigate.

I think he also took out a lot of the links to streamline the website, with the massive number of pageviews it was getting it removed a lot of it by simply taking out a lot of the links.

I didn't like it either at first. But it's starting to grow on me.

This one is just too simple IMO. Roger went too far to the simple side.... While I agree that the last site was busy, it looked professional whereas this one looks less so.

Well, I don't want to sound like I'm hating on the new site, but since the switch, I have noticed a few things I dislike. And this thread is suitably titled for my 2 small suggestions.

a) The top and left spacing sometimes shifts, and it would look alot cooler with less space.

b) There's something weird about the new logo image that I can't quite put my finger on. It looks like you were trying to recreate the style of the old one, but you should have just done something different cuz it doesn't quite have the same impact.

Other than that though, I actually do like this one alot more. Having the site split up as it is was a stroke of genius IMO.

I do have to agree with Splitter in that the old site's layout looked alot more professional, but it was also more complicated. Simpler is always better.

Removing links can be good, and bad.If you make things hard to find people will get frustrated hunting. Some of the things that were removed are things that most all sites provide.Things like the member list. The links in the left nav bar don't seem to be very organized in any particular order. And for me I find the differant colors used for each section to be confusing and breaks up the site so it does not flow.I'm sure Garner has a a lot of hours in the coding but seems some streamlining is in order. But that is just my opinion.

This version of the site was designed from day 1 to be far more efficient. Database design and coding is mostly responsible for that but by removing features that weren't used a great deal saves more because the server has to do nothing.

CDC navigation block dropped to save finding out your CDC project, you should know where they are anyway

Recent News is now part of the Hot Topics.

Recent Reviews has been dropped, you only really need to view reviews of the files that you're interested in downloading. Not each and everyone of them as they're added to the site.

MJF link dropped because its not something that belonged here anymore, this is a network of gaming sites.

Layout is far easier now, old was WAY too cluttered... you may have considered it to be more professional than this but from the web design world this is FAR FAR FAR nicer. Cleaner, easier to navigate... no longer is the user presented with 200 links.

New users to the site should find it much easier as a result to find what they want.

There has only been 3 'main' versions of the site. The initial with a sole left bar, then Unified with its dual bars and this version with its sole left bar again. Dual gives more room for navigation but can overload the user with information, especially new users... the ones we want to attract to the site and keep in order to grow.

Pageview wise, the site is growing strongly, we're receiving almost 500k hits per week, thats just under one per second average. As I dont have the budget to splash out on a dual or quad cpu server I instead have to make sure the server can cope with the code its given.

Hence another (and probably most important) reason for the drastic cutting back of the navbars. You can still get to where you want to go on the site with ease but the site is so much faster now its noticeable... which means plenty of room for expansion.

Johnny,
The top/left space shifts because of the 'on the fly' fix for a few users in 1024*768 res. Despite my IE, FF and Opera working in this res, some users were having problems with the res... so a quick fix was put into place. I've not yet had time to sort it out properly which once done will stop this.

The new logo was actually a test logo that has stuck with the site far longer than intended. Something to fill the gap during testing that due to a lack of time was left until a point where it can be changed to something else.

Mostertman,
I've said before and I'll say it again, latest reviews are not coming back to the navigation bar for the reasons I've outlined above.

Site poll isn't here because it doesn't fit in anymore with the site, each game here is now considered as its own site - the decision on whether or not to give each site its own poll is something that will be taken in the future. Its not something thats important or needed... dont expect to see anything (if at all) for months.

Nice work Garner.

I did have some complaints, but they have been answered.

I still have one though.

The one request that I would make then is the logo in the upper left. When clicked have it redirect to the overall main page?
