If this has been done before please accept my apologies.

Last night I come in from work to see my Norton Firewall flashing at me, my 7 year old had been playing some Disney game online. I hit the button to find out out whose hacking me, imagine my surprise when its not NTL, but a firstly AOL in New York trying to enter with a Trojan_Horse, me not worried.

An hour later some ISP/telephone company from Japan trying to hack me with a "propigation_worm" four times in a space of 45 minutes, this is the last info I got from Norton:

inetnum: 221.184.0.0 - 221.191.255.255

Means nothing to me apart from this is who attacked my PC, so my response was as follows:

Dear Sir

Four times tonight I have been hacked by someone from this site and luckily my Firewall has stopped it, it really pisses me off that major companies/internet providers employ people who are so bored with their job that they have to try and hack into my PC. If I was Microsoft or a Microsoft employee I may understand it, but I'm a 38 year old in a dead end job going now where.

Oh by the way I have sent an email to the Virtual Global Taskforce, The IWF, Metropolitan Police - Fraud Alert
and The ISPA UK. That might cause you to take action against you petty employees who are so bored they to attack home users.

I know this might fall on deaf ears, but for all those people who are hacked by IPS providers / telephone companies and other idiots, I thought I'd send this email.

We read the above email with the utmost interest and the details of the above attack have been duly noted. Please be assured you are not on your own, we have been notified of this attack 186 times this week since Monday 09.05.05. This is being looked into at this moment and we are in contact with all Major ISP providers to warn them and there users how to stop these attacks happening.

Please try to keep all your current firewalls and antivirus programmes upto date, whilst we deal with this matter.

We will email all ISP providers with our findings as soon as we can

Regards

J. W. Wethering

I suppose my real question behind this is, if its happened to you what response have you sent to your ISP or hacker, and CENSORED is a propigation worm, I could hazard a guess but would be probably wrong.

Lately I've been experiencing a lot of hacking attempts as well, possibly because I have a 130.89.xxx.xxx ip address, which means that I have access to one of the larger (windows/linux/unix/apple) share networks in Europe/the world, namely the campus network of the University of Twente, The Netherlands.
It seems a lot of outsiders are interested in what is available on this network. In the past two weeks I've experienced some 50 'interests' from amongst others Brazil, Japan, US, Paraguay (who would've thought they have internet ), Mexico and others. Good thing I'm not a dumbass and I know what my firewall is telling me

If my firewall isn't blinking at me to say someone is at least port scanning me I know I've dropped off the net.

Sad but true...

Yeah it has happened to me a few times. Some douche kept trying to get at my computer about 10 times a day for about 3-4 days. Luckily I had Zone-Alarm.

Ive turned the alerts off on my firewall. Im sick of seeing them every few mins.

Like garner said if your not getting any then your not online

Doesnt help with me having the same ip addy all the time now. Even when i was on 56k i had a few "attacks", but its a lot more now.

AOL have sent me loads of Trojan's and it is really annoying me. The bad thing is that my Live update isn't working which means that Norton is out-of-date by about 5 odd months which really worries me. I downloaded the free version of AVG but i'm still scared that as it is only the free version it doesn't find all the viruses.

I do think that my PC does have viruses becasue it takes so long to do anything. I have deactivated some of the startup programs but it still loads up really slow. I am tempted to reformat my hard-drive but the only problem is that it is a family PC.

Doc - Download http://www.free-av.com

Free AV program that detects more than Norton manages.

Why bother paying for AV software that doesn't work when free stuff works better?

Dan - You miss my point... Nortons, configured correctly or not, is crap.

Actually the definitions are the same as the full verison. It just doesn't have all the extra un-needed frills. AVG free edition is a great AV .I use AVG free edition, and love it
Nortons was good way back, but now it eats up soo much resources, causes long boot times and doesn't find alot of viruses out there. It truely is junk, just like AOL

Well fair comment, I paid for my Norton in February but will download AVG, will they conflict or run side by side?

Well i still have Norton installed and when i had AVG (got rid of it now) they ran side by side. There were no conflicts at all.

Well after i downloaded that over AV i found out that i had over 50 viruses
And then i ran a spyware scan and i had over 10

All i have to do now is clean-up my desktop and delete unwanted stuff. Have any of you got any advice on how to make my PC run faster...
