Right now,i believe that really got to the point of wasting your time maping for red faction.
Never seen so few downloads on any file,at any time on L4Y. |

The RF community may be dwindling slowly but there's still enough people out there playing it for the mappers to create maps.
Nowt like putting a downer on a truly great game & community  |

There's only one reason why I don't download Maps.
File Size!
If they have irrelevant music tracks on it then I don't bother because I've got higher priority on other things with my slow connection, not to say that Maps aren't worth the time. If they were good 'n' small then I'm very happy.  |

I don't dld maps for RF because:
1) I don't play it anymore (the odd time)
2) Not really a custom map fan
RF is still a good FPS but right now i'm more into playing WAR3  |

everything comes down to what i said.......i love maping....but not sure if ...is worth..anymore.

I think mapping will still be worthwhile for RF until the day it does die. As fewer people play it will be the custom community which keeps the interest up.
I too won't download maps that are large simply because of music. So if it's over say 3-4MB I'll only get it if it's being played alot.

i still love RF, and i still love mapping for it. i really dont care if people download my maps or not. i make them for myself. waste of time  ...not to me.
ill admit, that its nice to see people playing them on occasion, and even nicer to get a good review, but as long as i can send them to my friends to play them with me....im happy.  i almost prefer the testing fase of mapping, over the actual release of the map. to me making a map is like a small form of art. not everyone is going to get it, and not everyone is going to like it. if RF died today. id still continue making maps. well at least until i found another level editer that i can use half as well.(look out HL2DM players. im learnin  ) |

i tend to admit Jason X could be right.
The more i get skilled as a mapper, the fewest downloads i get. It's disheartening.
It seems the speed at which maps are downloaded decreased after the latest tracker problem and not only for me. |

i am not talking about my maps download,i am talking about overall download process....pple are not interested in this as they used to be b4.
I remember 100 dowanloads on 1 file. per day..back in time......well this is what i meant.
It hurts..bcoz,like i said,i love Rf still and i will play it till the last day |

RED editor is as much of a hobby as playing Red Faction is. I enjoy level editing as much as playing at times. I liken it to when I was a boy and used to love making air-fix model airplanes etc. Nobody got to play with them either
I will never say that I won't make another RF map because it will always be instaled on my PC. True, custom maps don't get played too much nowadays, but gathering friends on msn and creating a game with your favourite maps is always a blast, and is usually the only time I get to play many custom maps.
On the other hand I have found a new toy (Hammer) and am enjoying putting stuff together in that, and as a tribute to RF my first released HL2DM map will be a default RF level, probably DM-02.
It is a shame that the popularity of the game is now very isolated, but you can still get a good game of RF at any time of the day so all is not lost, but I must admit that even playing has taken a bit of a back-seat at the moment.
I doubt I will ever uninstall RF never to install it again, but if I'm being honest the flame is dwindling.

I don't think i will stop mapping for RF but i will surely stop dedicating so much time to one map. With such downloads it's too disheartening. |

Quake3 Rally is pretty dead but some of us are trying to get it moving again.
All it takes is a few fans (preferrably at least one who can map/mod  ), and the game will not die!
Heck, if I could figure out this darn RED I'd have a map made for you all in a week!

RF may be dead to you, but for some of us...its very much alive. so, as long as there is someone else willing to talk about it. then we will talk. so unless you have the ability to hack all of our pc's and crash them(repeatedly). i suggest you get used to it.

Um...Dank, I think he meant he doesnt wanna think of Red Faction being dead.
As for the mapping issue, it may be true that the game is near the end, but still havent you ever heard of going out with a bang? |
