Ok, in the picture below, I have 4 partitions, like in a bank. I want to put glass in each partition, but its not being nice. Suggestions?
The untextured thing in the image is a face brush, currently not set as detail. I want to either create one piece of glass that form fits to the partitions, or 4 pieces of glass, one for each partition. Can't seem to get the face brush to form to the curve though.

Select the bent brush(es). Copy/paste change type to air brush/ update. Put the air brush backward till it crosses your untexture face. ctrl+ select the untexture face.
(both your brushes are now selected)
Carve.
Delette the air copy of your bent brush. Use what remain of the carving. Make it detail, texture, place. If there is a part of that brush you don't need. Go in texture and option/ show sky every part you don't want. Save it as another name, i'm not sure of myself.

im thinkin portal windows or maby solid with air cutting into the unused window brush
but that means a box with X by X by 0.01
then i dont know if detailed would cut back into the air brush |

That face brush is already in the center of the arches. Half on the front, half on the back....
So, Molo, your saying make them airbrushes, carve the face and then bring back the solid brushes?
Tried making the arches an air brush and carving. One of the arches becomes part of the face, everything else disappears, but the face brush never cuts....should I use a really thin box instead of a face?
Ok...I got it...each arch has its own window now. Had to use the clip tool and trim around the outside of the arch. |

OK it's a lot easier this way...
First I made the arches as you had done. Then I selected them and hit Q to lock them, as I always do before I go into vertex mode. That's why they are grey.
Now the number of internal faces on the archways is 8 so in brush mode I select a face brush with 8 sides.
Create that brush and align it inside you're 'locked' arch brushes.

Then go into vertex mode and select all the vertices and line up each vertex point of the 8-sided face brush with the outside of the inner arch. Like so...

Make sure that brush a solid detail brush, if you havn't already, and texture with glass or grating or whatever.
Press Shift+Q to unhide ur other brushes
PS. I dont think it's necessary to be hugely accurate when trying to line up the vertices of ur detail brush with the inside edges of the frame. If they overlap into the solid brush as mine have done then all will be good once the brush properties are checked 'Is detail'.
Vertex mode... the god of all modes |

That works too, you can also use the WELD feature in addition to that to give it a perfect fit. |

ferrit, great explenation. I'd be too lazy to post something like that.
As for Weld; I don't really see how it could help here. You have a 3-dimentional arch, into which you need to fit a 2-dimentional arched face, in the center. Besides that, combining several brushes into one can get you in trouble later on. |

Ferrit's way worked for the glass....but now I have another problem that's got us both stumped.
The glass is in and in game it shows up, no problems, however, it doesn't shatter.
The face brushes are set to Is Detail with a life of 100. Its using the diamond texture, which I have in other buildings and the glass breaks with 3 pistol shots. This glass refuses to break. I can place a satchel charge on it, and it destroys the desk and arches, but the glass remains.
Here's a current image if what it looks like now.

Any ideas? |

Try:
1. Copying that glass face to another location, and see if it behaves differently.
2. Create a new face brush with the same characteristics within the map.
If you haven't fused/welded the face brush, and when selected it still reads "Face", "Detail" and "Life: 100", then this is something new to me. |

Yeah very strange that it doesn't break
Maybe it's because the face brush has more than 4 sides, but I never encountered any problems like that before.
I tried it on my above 'tutorial' arch and the same thing happened. The arch is definately touching the ground and the pane of glass is definately within the solid of the arch brush.
I could geo away the entire arch and the pane of glass is left suspended in the air. And not only that but after the arch was collapsed I can fire rockets throught the glass pane. Weird.
Gonna try one last thing but after that I have no clue
Edit: Nope, it doesn't want to break. Very strange. If no-one can come up with a reason as to why this is and a way round it then I'd make sure no-one can geo the arches and the counter, either by placing a large non-geo region around it all or by making them all detail brushes. That's the only way to stop glitching in-game. Very odd tho |

Make the glass a 0.01 m thick box, it will break (or actually disapear) but won't shatter.
[edit]Got it,I think
Don't know what was the problem thou.

Don't think that can work in your map.

do you still have the AIR brushes within your arches? or did you carve then delete. if so(still have them)...try making them portals. that might give the brush the freedom to break. GL |

There were no air brushes. I didn't carve the arches, I created box brushes and bent them. Also, the glass used to be a box, but now their faces that have been edited in Vertex mode. |

Dumb Question coming:
When you made the new glass and did your editing of the brushs. Are they a face brush or just a regular detail brush?
Dumb Question over.
If they are then that is the reason they won't shatter. Only face brushes shatter as far as I know. Regualr brushes just kind of disappear.
Also if it's a bank window, why not make it so you can't damage it. Make those bank employees feel safe darn it. Also if the players will have access to that space add a couple rail gun to be able to get them out of that room. You know so it will be fair. |

Yes, they're face brushes. They originally were box brushes, but I found an easier way to make them, thanks to Ferrit.
Most likely, they will be non-breakable. I'm just trying to figure out why they won't break, when they're setup to shatter. Their face brushes, set to detail, with a life of 100. I have those settings on other glass in the level and it works fine.
I'll prolly end up putting a non-geo region around it and make it a rail sniping point as Frank suggested. Otherwise, someone can blow up the counter and the arches, but the glass just hangs there in midair. |
