There are a few tutorials written to show how to acheive some special effects in Red, but how many people out there have discovered new ways to make their own special effects in Red to enhance their own projects ? It would be good to see more tutorials of these effects being put online so others will know how its done. |

You mean you want me to let you in on all my little secrets?..... No chance
Nah seriously, I always meant to write a few tutorials, I think I have a lot of shortcutted simplistic ways of doing things that may be overlooked by others. Maybe one day I'll have enough time to write them down for ya |

Surprisingly, very few talented persons have made tutorials:
No tutorials from WRECKS, Wizard, JAN the mean, Espear, Madcat ... and just a few interventions on the forum from NCF, Sorrow, HH,Ferrit, RedFrog, RJ...
It's regrettable indeed. Are they all secret-greedy and willing to keep their little tips for themself?

See this link to a tutorial I posted on making landmines:

BTW, Enforce all your postings seem to start with some general accusation that people aren't nice enough, generous enough, complete enough, etc. I think you'll find most folks will gladly help you if you just ask. |

First: something which is not already on Red Tech.
Example: Ambiant light.
The clip utility.
Vertex mode.
Beware: The best place to submit a tutorial is RedTech but Trigger is a fierce guardian. He'll make sure your tutorial is dumb proof and does work. I think lotsapot didn't pass that test, (did he, Trigger? ).
To Trigger
Secondly: the way tutorials are made on RedTech is not the way i would like.
Tutorials are like "how to make a cutscene",
"How to make sound loop".
These are very particular and kinda complex problems. And tutorials deal with several tools to solve them: brush, keyframe, events...)
I would like a tutorial which explains for exemple what is a cyclic timer event: how it can be used and what must be checked or written in each field and what will be the effect.
We'll probably have to gather the knowledge of several mappers to do that for every event and every utility in RED (Clip, Extrude,Welde,Fuse, End of time...) |

Yeah, I had trouble with the clipping tool in red, I selected the two brushes I wanted, clicked on the brush points supposed to bring up the blue crosses to make the cut in the brush by selecting cut brush in the dialoge, and nothing happened, no blue crosses appeared or anything, so I gave up and just use the carve tool or just an air brush instead to cut brushes |

Clip is for clipping a single brush. It's used mainly to divide a rbush so that you cna texture parts of it differently or sometimes to get rid of PS2 faces by making a large brush smaller.

That's strange, the tutorial I was following said to have two brushes selected before using the clipping tool, now you say it only works on 1 brush?
Well tried selecting 1 solid brush I made and clicked on CLIP, and clicked on the brush to select a point to cut, no blue crosses show up, maybe my video card because I also have a problem with Red showing up all the textures in the texture browser window, I get half the windows destop showing instead of all the textures..

ive used clip on more than one brush on more than one occasion. the secret to getting clip to work well is the GRID. the clip tool likes to clip on the grid lines whenever possible.(not always)
so basically align beush to grid if possible, then select clip. place the mouse pointer on the first line of the cut, and left click. once you see the blue crosshair come up, place the pointer on the opposite end of the cut to be made. after doing that the dialog box should popup,
and there ya go. |

so basically align brush to grid if possible, then select clip and then choose from cut or split. Place the mouse pointer on the first line of the cut, and left click. Once you see the blue crosshair come up, place the pointer on the opposite end of the cut to be made, on the same grid line. After doing that a blue line will along your 2 pointers with a small perpendicular line on it. This points to the side of the brush you will lose if you decide to press cut. If you want to change it select 'reverse normal' and then press cut. If you'd rather split then press split
