I am a little confused, If for instance I map using good ole RED as was intended then my map can be played on ALL servers and can be played by ALL players, regardless whther they are running PF or not, but if I map with PF RED then my maps can only be played on servers running PF and played by players running PF..... no brainer to me, unless I got it wrong

and no one has even bothered addressing this question. but this happens all the time, post a question on here about PF and the same guys that are involved in either the development or the promotion of PF start an arguement as to whether you should or shouldnt use it without addressing the questions asked.. and posting a link to another site is not an answer, if I wanted to go to another site then why would I b other asking questions here.

I believe the argument was started by someone posting biased and entirely off topic comments simply to slander PF.

@OP: I've never experienced this problem, you should however post about it on the PF Forums where PF developers will actually read it.

I already posted the only suggestion I can. I've never experienced this issue personally, but if he posts about his issue in a place where TrotSkie will actually read it, he's most likely going to get better suggestions.

Apparently there is on option in REDpf as to if you want to say it as a PF file or a regular Red Faction file(.vpp). If you save it as PF then all players can join a server running PF, depending on the server's settings. If you decide to host said level then you will have to PF to run it if you or anybody else saved the file as a PF file. I hope that clears up things for you.

No, Frank is wrong.

REDPF saves .rfl files. You can save any file with REDPF as you could with RED. If you use the new PF features included in REDPF, then you save your level as "pdm-name" or "pctf-name" instead of the traditional "dm-name" or "ctf-name". If your level has "pdm" or "pctf" as its prefix, the server must be hosted using PF (this is necessary since a 1.2 server wouldn't be able to use the PF features included in the map... which in most cases would make the map unplayable anyway) BUT clients can be running any version of RF.

You don't save files as "pf files", they're still just .rfls.

I cleared this up nearly a page ago, but it seems like nobody took notice.

Really, then that means you answered this question:
Quoting Menca
Anyways I have come across a constant crashing while mapping during some of the most simple actions like building geometry or just panning around with the camera. Has anyone else experienced any of these problems?
Note this problem is exclusive with with REDpf, I can load up the original RED and do exactly what I was trying to do. I'm not pushing any limits on RED that I'm aware of this would happen with adding a mere 3 4 brushes to a 160 count.
Any insight would be appreciated.

Did you offer any insight?

So far his only solution is NOT to use PF for mapping or am I wrong?

Frank, can you read? No one here (including me) knows how to solve this problem, the only logical course of action would be for him to contact the PF developer, and to do so he should post on the forum I linked to.

The staff at that site could have posted the question for him and try and find a solution. Have they? No.
So My question is this, are you really interested in helping the person or do you just want him to go else where for help?
AGAIN, the only solution that has been found so far is to NOT use REDpf, if it continues to crash on him?

Frank, can you read?

If I couldn't read then would that question really be worth typing? All I am saying if you find a solution, give it to him. Don't ask him to post his questions elsewhere for an answer that you can easily post here. Assuming you have the answers he needs.
Frustrating isn't it when you know what I am saying makes sense.

It's definitely frustrating to see you post stuff like this when in my post just above yours (which you obviously read considering you replied to it) I said this:

I'll repost his question on the PF forums sure, but in the future it makes sense for him to do it himself.

Thank You! Goober
I would have done it but I don't have a membership there, so I can't post.
I'm glad you got the hint.

J0HN, logic would dictate that a person should go to the PF forums to ask a PF related question, especially considering the PF developer doesn't even read this forum as far as I know.

Your advice about using a different password is a good idea, except for the opposite reason. The PF forums have password hashing and this site does not.

That is true goober, this site does not have password encryption so your passwords on here are more unsafe, than the PF forums.

**On topic**
Why does there seem to be a problem, redirecting a member to a site that can "ACTUALLY" help him with his problem?
The way I see it is that franks upset that this user is being directed because he then thinks he is loosing a member. This member is then going to stick to the PF forums because he/she can get the best help there.
Even thought he/she will get the best help, it does not stop them from posting here, and I am pretty sure he might continue doing so.

So for the love of god, will you all stop acting like bloody kids and grow the CENSORED up!

All of this post here or post there stuff is annoying. People come to Levels4you because it's the best place to post questions to the games we play.

Word.

I also caution those of you that may create an account elsewhere to use a completely different password than the one you may use here. It wouldn't be the first time someone gathered user names & passwords from one site they are Admins at and use it on another. Isn't that right Frank?

True that my young brother john from another mother...and father. Can you guess what web site that was that I did that on? In my defense...I was stupid for doing it but you live and learn right?
The site/s will remain nameless as I have no proof that "they *" had anything to do with it. I still have my suspicions though.
* I am not implying anything so please don't defend yourself as it might just prove my suspicions.

Spikey2005 my reasons for are for those stated by Señor John.

Goober was helpful. He posted the question on the other site. It shows that he is trying to help.

Welcome!
Post 3 / 3

Didn't mean to cause an uproar. Just remembered I posted this a few days ago and look what I started. To be honest never thought to post at the PF forums just knew I could get some sort of answer here as I had been a member for quite some time just not very active.
Pretty much got my answer though in that others have experienced the same problem and it wasn't exclusive to me.
It is possible for me just to load up the original RED and bypass whatever it seemed to be causing my map to crash then continue with PF, so in all reality its not a that much of a problem.

Sorry again if i caused any unnecessary stress and debate.

Menca, you didn't cause any problems. You did what you had to do. It takes a lot of guts to ask for help, especially when you aren't active in the forums. I know when I first started, I was too afraid to post questions. I relied on my friends for answers, which a lot of the time were not very accurate.
