I recently installed red faction again after what seems like years of not playing, so pure faction is a little new to me but i first i gotta say wow and that is exactly what red faction needed its simply an amazing update/mod.
So needless to say i had the desire to mess around with RED love the small new features and the fact that UV unwrap isn't solid white if i load up a game and then need to restart RED.
Anyways I have come across a constant crashing while mapping during some of the most simple actions like building geometry or just panning around with the camera. Has anyone else experienced any of these problems?
Note this problem is exclusive with with REDpf, I can load up the original RED and do exactly what I was trying to do. I'm not pushing any limits on RED that i'm aware of this would happen with adding a mere 3 4 brushes to a 160 count.
Any insight would be appreciated.

If it crashes a lot...nothing can avoid it.

in this case I don't really see a reason to use it.
You might be better off using RED optimized

REDFROG - the PF specific trigger flags (which ARE very important) can only be used through REDPF.

Granted, you can always save, open in REDPF, set those flags, save, reopen in another RED app, but still you need it.


@OP: I've never experienced this problem, you should however post about it on the PF Forums where PF developers will actually read it.

There are a number of people who can't and plenty more who don't want to given the fact that RF without PF is unbelievably insecure and buggy.

Furthermore, your suggestion wouldn't even help his problem with REDPF so perhaps you should start posting useful help instead of biased spam.

I think what Mostertman might have meant was to just map without using REDPF. Just map using what the game came with. You know the one located here: C: >games >RedFaction >red.exe I have never tried mapping using RED-FROG's version but that is another option.
It also guarantees that ALL persons who own Red Faction will be able to play the levels, not just people who use Pure Faction.

You don't need PF to play REDPF maps. You only need PF to host the maps IF they use the pdm/pctf extension. You CAN save normal dm/ctf maps with REDPF.

You can play pdm/pctf maps with 1.2 (or any other version) so long as the SERVER is running PF.

I know that but lets say he maps using PF (saves it as PF) and a person who isn't using PF decides to host the game. Now he can't use it...why because he downloaded a level made with PF. It only forces the server to have to switch to PF.
There is probably no security risks involved using PF but you have to understand not ALL people are comfortable using a third party program. I for one use it from time to time. When I remember to start the game with it.
The game does run a lot smoother with it but the heat sensor color still annoys me. I mean, why couldn't he just make the so that the default color was the original and not blue? Then again I should really post this question in a different web site. It just doesn't bother me enough to create an account there.

I am a little confused, If for instance I map using good ole RED as was intended then my map can be played on ALL servers and can be played by ALL players, regardless whther they are running PF or not, but if I map with PF RED then my maps can only be played on servers running PF and played by players running PF..... no brainer to me, unless I got it wrong

Simple. Unless you guys can figure out why REDpf keeps crashing on him, then all I am suggesting is that he/she(?) stop using it and use the regular RED that came with Red Faction.

Isn't that only real reason to use REDpf? Look at what Kerpal [<-- link] does using regular RED...Can you say AWESOME!
Well for me (IMO), that would be the only reason to use it. I do like the transporter feature.

Well, anyone who makes cutscenes will want to use REDPF anyway since the cutscene crash bug is fixed.

Still, Menca hasn't said anything about having problems while making cut-scenes.
Did you guys find a solution for his problem?
All you guys are so far doing is arguing about whether or not to use REDpf and haven't helped his situation out one bit.
As far what I posted, switching to regular RED should solve his problem.
