Hi,
Am I just stupid or is something wrong with my cpu?
I am trying so hard to get the LEGO mod running. It doesn't work...
I did everything as it is told in the README file (the updated version)
All that happens is:
I double click on my desktop-shortcut (properties are set to launch the mod),
the mod starts with a starting-screen (LEGO-man with "mod-banner"),
the mod menue appears,
I click on "new game" and choose "skip training" -
just the normal RF Intro starts and after the cutscene the game crashes...
can this be,
because I use a german version of RF?
because I have installed the game on my D-drive, but not on the C-drive?
(other mods work well...)
Any help suggestions? - I really wnna playit one time... |

Mmmh guess the language of my Red Faction
Probably you have too many maps already in multi and single folder?
Hm.
Or perhaps a ui.vpp mod? |

Oh noes! This is terrible news.
I second REDFROG's advice: pull all the files out of the multi, single and textures folders. Make sure the ui.vpp file is unaltered too.
Instead of "Skip Intro" select "Play Lego" and tell us what happens.

Hapa - The textures folder wouldn't effect it. RF doesn't even read from the textures folder, only RED does. Furthermore, RF only reads .vpp files from multi, single and mods. Nothing else.
Remove all other vpps from multi, single, and all mods folders and then try |

Just for utter curiousity, try clicking through the training. I've always just clicked on that when playing LEGO Mod. |

When it rains it pours. Tragic news Jan.
Incidently goober, I asked about the textures folder a while back. I can't find the topic right now but I was informed that if a .vpp with textures in it, inside the textures folder which have the same file names as default textures, would override the default textures in game. Perhaps I was misinformed but Frank is typically wise in these matters. |

I've never said "in the texture folder". What I did say that if a .vpp file contains another texture with the same name of a default texture and can and most of the time will be seen by the player instead of the original. As far as I know, the game reads the files in the single and multi folders before the default location for the default textures. Might suck for some reasons but it also makes it a lot easier to replace certain files. Especially if you don't like the default HUD. |

Oh nutz! lol Well since that's the case - I am deleting the texture folders from my Macs. Due to the fact that Macs can't use RED. |

Then you better hope to god that goobers right about the textures otherwise, you will be playing Red Faction invisible Walls .
Actually, god knows what will happen what RF would do if you ran it with no textures.
But I am pretty sure RF has to read those textures from somewere, otherwise, they would not display... |

The textures of the game are in the vpp files If you delete those you will see no other, but the default texture in RF.
Not invisible walls. |

lol - no worries. I won't delete the default game .vpp's. Just the textures folder from the user_maps folder on my Macs.
Although, I would imagine the Mac framerate improving substantially without any textures to display. |

If you run Red Faction with no textures, you prob see nothing at all except the models. The stats on the screen might streak and turn into a hall of mirrors when trying to move.
Someone should try it, and watch the game crash |
Red limits breached?, Yep, (20,000 fces and its still going !) |

Well of course the game would crash with no texture files. No means not even the default texture file that shows up when the texture is missing. |

Red Faction has been played without textures before, it was someone's test to see how small they could get a full installation without affecting game play. The end effect was that it simply displays the default texture. |
