Newegg is possibly the best online computer and electronics store around. I highly suggest purchasing from them. There are different types of RAM; the three most common are SD, DDR and DDR2. If you're running a newer Intel CPU then the chances are you have DDR2, if you have an AMD CPU (unless it's a really new computer) the you're most likely running DDR. To double-check there should be a sticker or label of some sort on your current RAM that will tell you. |

If you have more than one computer in the house with a wireless adapter you could set up an ad hoc network, and connect the other computer directly to the router. Its a bit more complicated than simply plugging in a cable, but it works. |

I had that problem too with my laptop that has windows vista home basic.I detects the connection but cant connect to the internet.
Well here,s how to fix it.
1.Go to network settings and you,ll see an icon that is a pc then something i cant remember then the world wich represents the internet. Each of these icons is connected by a single green line.If there is an X in the middle of one of those icons then click the X and let windows find the problem.
2.If the problem is not solved it will give you a few suggestions.Take the renew ip address option and see if it works if it doesnt go to your wireless receiver somewhere in your computer and click properties. If you use a IpV4 connection click on it adn go to properties.Set the find ip address and connect automatically to yes
Same goes to the ipv6 connection. |

The exclamation point next to the device means there's a problem with it, usually missing drivers. Install the drivers that came with it and try again. |

Sometimes, people like to be extra protective on their wireless routers so that anyone else with wireless connectivity, cannot connect to your router and use your internet.
What you may need to do is, if your router has Ethernet cable + Wireless, plug your PC/Laptop into the router.
Next, you need to open IE or any other internet browser and in the address type "192.168.1.1" This IP might be different depending on your router, Locate the address for your "Default Gateway", this is the IP you type into the browser

log into your router with user name and/or password.
Go into your Wireless security settings.
At this point, what you need to do is find an area that allows you to enter a Mac Address / Physical Address. Mac address can be found if you right click your wireless/wired connection, go to "Status". The Mac/Physical Address is a bunch of numbers and letters like this: 00-11-22-33-44-5A. You need to find yours and add it to the router settings. This tells the router that Access to that mac address is allowed, thus giving you access to the internet on the router.
Please bare in mind, that all the information given above is depending on how your router is set up. There might be different ways to how you might have to set your up, above is one of the examples. |

My normal LAN also doesnt work
Same problem.
Also i dont think my router blocks the mac adress, hence i can browse the net on xp fine. (Multiboot)
Or do the Operating systems have different max adresses ?
And btw my mac filtering is off |

Been a while since this first appeared.. now I know you stated the drivers back then didn't work... but have you tried newer drivers released since? (if any)
Failing that I often find deleting an entry in device manager and then rebooting will force Windows to redetect the device and reinstall drivers again. Has solved a few problems in the past with a corrupt install. |

No, no new drivers.
Yeah i uninstalled it and rebooted. it didnt even detect any new hardware
I'm not gonna buy new hardware if it works fine on XP. Screw vista if it will not work. |

Nah nah, doesnt block your mac address, its just that ur mac address is not added to the router. Some routers have this cool feature that require you to input the mac address for wireless connectivity. anyone else who connects to your router, without their mac address in the router, will not be able to get access to the router or the internet... its a cool security feature. My router has it.
I cant connect my Ipod touch to our wireless router because my dad needs to add the mac address to the router to enable it. I can enter the user name and password correctly, but it wont give me DNS server address and such because the mac address is not on the router.

See, I cannot go on the internet with my ipod unless i obtain the missing data. |

Get your old man to add the mac address then!?
Mac address filtering isn't tight enough security, you need WPA-PSK or WPA-RADIUS behind it for it to be really resilient. It's not terribly hard to scan for wireless devices and associations, then to simply clone you're mac address to get onto a mac-only network.
Here at home, I use WPA-RADIUS through a router and a WAP, to get onto my wireless network. You must:
+ Have a signed certificate from the authentification server (means being physically plugged into the network to retrieve)
+ Be in the allowed mac filter list.
+ Authenticate with a username/password that is part of a wifi users security group, not a silly single WEP/WPA pass key.
I haven't tried my security with an iPod touch or the like, I'm not sure how I would get the certificate to work, When I've joined my G3 iBook to the wifi, I had to import the key and convert it, it works nicely though. |
